Extremely rare Girod dual chime wall clock

I bought this from a seller in france, and it got totally destroyed in shipping. Luckily, everything was repairable and now that I am home from school for spring break I could work on it and get it restored. Beyond excited to have this as a part of my collection, as i’ve only ever seen two other examples on the internet.

This chime is called ‘La Belle de Cadix’ and was adapted from the theme of French-Spanish musical film which came out in 1953. The clocks with this chime were meant to cash in on the film’s premiere and do not turn up in production clock catalogs. The film wasn’t a great success and the clock chime, despite its very limited production, was pretty unremarkable

You've done really well with this one and congrats on getting it sorted out. I hope you'll let us see it with dial and hands on. The chime is yet another one I haven't heard and my 'history lesson' is actually that of my chime clock expert, so felt I'd copy and paste it in to allow you and others to read about the chime in particular.

Once again thank you! This one was just purely knowing what you’re looking at when buying something, and that’s why I was able to get this one. You can see it put together in my updated collection video although it’s very unassuming on the outside

@@Brooks_Adams Yes, that happened to me about a couple of years ago re a chime. It showed a 'T' or a 'J' on one of the chimes and wondered at first if it was a misprint. No! The British Museum I think it is has one and I was able to direct them to how the chime is supposed to sound, even though I had to play it manually (finger pressure on wheel). It does not necessarily follow that the clock is any more valuable, especially mass-produced chimers from about the 1930s to 1960s, but fur us collectors, it makes a world of difference.

Ah yes, this tune! I've heard it once before, but don't remember what it was called... In any case, French makers had so many different little tunes for their clocks, it was rather impressive. Although, I always cringe (and laugh a little) at Girod's odd fixation with having very jangly and purposefully out-of-tune strike chords...

This is the "SONNERIE DES HEURES SEULES". This clock comes with 2 other chimes we have the dual chime which chimes on the same 4 rods as the Westminster that is the Bells of Jura. This is extremely rare this has 7 rods for this special "SONNERIE DES HEURES SEULES."

Wow! I've never seen a clock like this one before! Do you happen to know what the tune is called? I'm sorry to hear that it got destroyed during shipping.... I experienced the same thing a few years ago with a desk clock. The odd tune and the french manufacturer remind me of that Favori clock that you have in your collection. :)

the dial is labeled “la belle de cadix” so i’m assuming that would be the chime name. However with such little information on these I have no way to be sure
