Love your videos. Your skill and creativity are awesome. I can’t help but wonder though how incredible your projects would be if you spent more time and attention on them. Keep up the good work
Maybe there were some parts missing from the video where you measured, or maybe you've built this particular item so many times that you know it by feel, but you made this look effortless.
As a person that has done woodworking I say that this piece is AWSOME. As a homemaker this piece is a nightmare to try to dust. My stick and ball furniture is a nightmare as well
Obvioiusly by a carpenter not a furniture makier. Yes interesting bent wood effects, but the wood is not fine furniture wood. The screws are just driven in all over the place, and let visible. Theres apparetntlly no care taken to see that the screws are hidden. And there are pins (nails) visible all over the place. Yes, nice bent wood effects, but the rest is pretty slapdash and finish is mediocre.
Yep, it’s only a matter of time before he loses a finger, and pushing on the wrong side of the cut, he’s going to get it in the head someday. I hope I’m wrong.
@amazing A to z🤣 if you say so, I built furniture and cabinets for years. Why would you ever use a pen that leaves a permanent mark, especially on furniture that is probably going to be stained?
I use a pen. It has a finer and more consistent line than a pencil. I also use a marking knife. And I use a pencil for certain things like marking a surface before sanding.
Hi. What type of wood did you use for the bent lamination? What was their thickness and width? This might work out to solve a materials problem for a project for my son's girlfriend. Thanks
Hello there Bob, I don't know if you're in Britain or America, but that doesn't really matter, because the woods I'm going to recommend you as a cabinet maker can be found in bothe of these countries. First of all, there are two very important factors to take into account: Thickness of the strips (I live in France, so we work in metric measurements). The ideal thickness should not exceed 3mm (millimetres, about 1/8") Grain direction of the original plank. The grain should be as straight as possible. Avoid knots. The method used above has its weaknesses. Cutting thin strips between the blade and the guide tends to overheat the strips and therefore twist them. It's far better to cut the strips on the other side- you can clamp a short block to butt up to after every cut. By cutting the strip as an offset there is no heating. It's much better to plane the edge of the plank after every cut. so you're using two machines, but getting a much better result. DO NOT sand the strips like what's shown above; it rounds the edges and creates horrible glue joints. The two ideal woods are Beech and Ash. Other woods may work too (Maple/Sycomore, Birch, and some others). You have to do some trials. Also steaming is ideal, or at least wetting. Keep in the mould for as long as possible- preferably several days. Good luck. I hope this has been of some use to you? Greetings from France
