This dresser was made around 1880-1900 and it was in rather bad condition.
In this video I will show how to deal with problems like missing pieces and cracked details.

That's it, exactly. When I saw this piece, I wouldn't have thought it was worth restoring, I found nothing attractive about it. After Ahti finished - wow! It's exactly what I love, but didn't have the eye to see what could be done to restore it's original beauty.

This is what i like. A true restoration. Not just slapping some chalk paint on it and crowing, "Don't you just love it?" as another piece of mid century modern goes down. I do appreciate that some peopke have found a way to generate income, but it AIN'T RESTORATION!!!! KEEP SHOWING US HOW IT'S DONE!!😅😅😅

Every step of this I was picturing my late father. “That’s exactly how Dad would have done it” I kept thinking. Watched him at his lathe and making dove tails for many years. Aside from his reg job working as the town carpenter for the council, he had a shop in our basement and our house always smelled of wood haha. He made 4 big chests for us, his daughters made of mahogany with cedar linings (not cheap where I live), my most treasured possession. You did an amazing job, anyone would be proud to have that in their home. Absolutely beautiful. TY ❤⭐️

This has to be one of my favourite restoration channels. As others have commented it is refreshing to see someone who saves as much of the original item as is possible. This is restoration in its true definition - the act or process of returning something to its earlier good condition or position.

Howdy from Houston, TX. I love watching a true carpenter work. You remind me of my father as he loved building, fixing & repairing anything, but especially wood. I miss the smell of fresh cut wood. My dad would take the sawdust, mix it with paraffin & make fire starters for my mom’s Girl Scout group when we went camping, which was often. Anyway, love seeing your work! You’re a master.

I've watched quite a few of this guy's restoration projects, and I haven't seen ANYONE more skilled than him. This is a fabulous result displaying his great skills at his art, and he doesn't need any pet cats or dogs in his videos to creep into the affections of the pet-loving viewers. A very rewarding watch for me, and I don't know the difference between a screw and a nail.

Now I know you just go measure, measure, chop, saw, saw, zip, zap, glue glue , nail nail and it’s done. All very elementary to you, but to me it’s magical to watch. You are so fortunate to have a top and bottom corner detail to copy. I have my grandmother's 90-100 year-old dresser that has similar drawer construction and problems, so this will help me when I start work to refurbish it. This one is now my new favorite restoration. Masterful restoration, as always!

The colour of that wood once finished looks so deep and rich. Really beautiful. It really amazes me, the mindset of a woodworker/restorer. To the unskilled eye the furnature looks like trash for the bonfire but here we see, no, it is a valuable and beautiful comodity to be enjoyed for another several generations. For sure, id take this over brand new Ikea junk every day of the week.

Holy crap that's a hell of a turn around. One shortcut I learned on French polishing is to just do a couple heavy brushed coats of shellac as a base to fill the grain, sand it back and then french polish. When I do it, I find the most time consuming part is always filling the grain, and a couple coats of a heavy 3 pound cut with sanding back is a colossal time saver!

The way you cut that first tenon on the bandsaw was super slick. I always see people use a table saw and take a ton of cuts. Band saw is definitely the right tool.

Once again, not my choice, but now a piece that almost anyone would be proud to have in their home, including me. There were many faults and plenty of evidence of poor quality manufacture. Always difficult to strike the balance between restoration and improvement. IMHO you got it 100% right on this piece. Learned a lot as well, so a genuine 'Thank you'. None-threatening Man-hug.

New legs with no worm holes. I like the way you glue down original veneer ! You’re most knowledgeable also. Years ago on a loading dock in L.A. I unloaded fiberglass matt next to a container from Brazil = full of veneer in 8” by 18 ft in length. 20 pcs per bundle, and 25 bundles per pallet . I remember thinking that’s a lot of furniture. Dad and I used to watch the Amish in N. Indiana at the county fair use a 4” wide knife remove a roll from a log 1/32 thick ….. then give the roll away to folks in the crowd.
