Emanuel (Manny) Mandel: The Eyewitness to History video library was created to enable audiences everywhere to hear firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivors. This video was created from a live digital program, First Person: Conversations with Holocaust Survivors, recorded on December 14, 2022. It features Holocaust survivor Manny Mandel, who was born in 1936 in Riga, Latvia, and grew up in Budapest, Hungary. Manny was chosen for a special exchange in which the Nazis traded his life and those of other Hungarian Jews for money and war supplies (the “Kasztner Train”). He survived internment at Bergen-Belsen before finding refuge in Switzerland and immigrating to Mandatory Palestine.

Thank you so very much, Manny, for sharing your story of survival during the war. Each and every story is extremely important, and we must not forget the brutality of our fellow man, in the hope that it is not repeated. I am a Christian, but I deeply love all of my Jewish brothers and sisters around the world, and especially Israel. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and God bless you and your family.

What was Manny's fathers name? I am hopeful his testimony is also available to see and hear. ❤

WOW! what a thorough and interesting story Manny gave. I wish it could have been longer. There were items of subjects he started to talk about but was unfortunately directed back to the main subject. I know they are directed by the person who is asking the questions, and this person has a tight outline to get the major part of the story told in a limited time. But its frustrating not to find out 'other' interesting details, as the more emotional human details in their and their family lives. This is also important, as it sums up their story of Post Holocaust and post wwii. But what Manny was able to tell was very interesting. Bless Manny for telling his story.
