Fra gli innumerevoli pregi della voce di Pinza, quello che impressiona di più è la straordinaria omogeneità di tutti i settori. Non c'è nota, dalle più basse, alle medie, alle alte, che non sia risonante, piena, luminosa, timbrata. Il tutto usato sempre con gusto e senza forzare mai. Un vero maestro assoluto del canto.

Qui la misura e la compostezza di Pinza non sono altro che il modo in cui questo grande artista riesce a darci l'idea d'un vero padre che piange realmente la propria figlia morta. Quanta differenza - e non faccio nomi - rispetto ad altri cantanti che pensavano di essere "veri" solo perché facevano smorfie, urlacci, singulti e occhiacci da ospedale psichiatrico.
Pinza is considered one of the greatest if not THE greatest basso cantante, with a great tight vibrato and wonderful technique and versatility, with a range of two octaves.Even Toscanini thought highly of him. If a few people have a poor ear for voice and musicality, don't make negative comments that are embarrassing to yourself.
Oltre alla profondità della tessitura vocale, al legato e alla dizione si sente un Fa grave finale perfetto e ben tenuto. Un basso come ce ne sono stati pochi.

I love Pinza's rendition of this aria. I have it on one of my many LPs of his. The greatest basso cantante, singing both profundo and into baritone roles. Such as the best Don Giovanni and Figaro, IMHO.

I agree, Ezio Pinza's rendition has to be among the very best. The one in a CD I have (Ezio Pinza - Verdi, Mozart, Monteverdi) is very similar but I'd say even better than this one in the video.

Pinza was the greatest Italian basso cantante of the 20 century in my opinion & an instrument of unmistakable timbre. I keep searching for a recording of him singing VI RAVVISO from LA SONNAMBULA but so far in vain. Any info regarding this?
