Summer 1982. End of 23 years F-100 operation in Denmark, Esk. 730 was the last squadron to operate the Super Sabre. This is the original full length video with Danish speak.
The old Hun, served my nation proudly for many years. The first plane to take on the role of the Wild Weasel in Vietnam, was replaced with the F-105G Thunderchief and the Hun went onto ground support and did a magnificent job.
As a young boy the late 1950s the appearence of the F100 the first afterburner jet I had seen operate at Manston AFB. We would hide at the end of the main runway and let them take-off over us until an MP came out and advised us not to.End of runway was too risky !As Fioo pased over us we could feel some fuel droplets upon our faces when they reheated later in the air!!!!!!!! PS. B36 also used Manston with F86.F84 all 3 variants.Skynight, Many F86Ds...Grumman Albertross,S55 Helio.B36,B47,DC3s,UK B50 ,and many more But the F100 was the star !
Excellent video, even though I don’t speak Danish. For a smallish Air Force, the RDAF had a very exotic and diverse fighter fleet in the 70s - F-104s, Huns and even Drakens!
That's the first time I see a two seater f-100 super Sabre usually a single seater airplane. The royal Danish air force besides the u.s. air force. The Danish air force f-16 too.
Awesome aircraft. Remember seeing Danish F100's at St Athan air displays in the 80's. Tailplane is unbelievably close to the ground. Did the Danish Air Force only have 2-seaters?
AtPeacePiece No, Danish Airforce units. Its from the 1980ties hence the hair. Danish mentality is really not geared for the Top down mentality. On top of that Airforce in Denmark is way more relaxed than the Army or Navy in terms of hair, saluting and uniforms standards. So different culture and mentality, and also a generel across the board higher level of Education. So a USMC style of command structure would lead to a riot or just the sergent getting laughed at if implimented in Danish military.
I ofeten noticed in the early 1970s in Danmark the F16s it seemed a long period of testing and waiting until the F16 became operational with your RDAF ? Good choice thougeh !
What do you meen whit long priod of testing ? F-16 was opperational almost within a year when we got them in 1980, and 1984 we had enough to partisipate in red flag ! Thats fast for the time.
@@janandersen8735 - Nope, not as the one writing the check,- Did some of the acceptance inspections of some of the latest FOB jets we got. They had less than 10 hours on the clock, and we took them apart. ;-)
@@henrikgormsen1020 Thanks, I asked since my old man was on the acquisition team back in the 70's, still vividly remember being at Vaerloese Air Station (as I remember it) for the demo that general Dynamics put on between the F16 and and an F4. They started rolling at the same time and by the time the F4 was wheels up, the F16 was going vertical with full burners, completed a loop and cam back around passing the F4. Big impression on a teenage boy.
@@janandersen8735 That F-16 was parked in 722 Sqrd hangar. We looked at it at night and our mechanics pointed out all the stop-drillings in the A/B section due to several cracks in the metal I saw that demo and came very close to a backseat ride on the F4 but Langhof won that experience damn him
Både dobbelt- og singlesædet Hawker Hunter havde noget smukkere linjer. Jeg er født og opvokset med F-84 og F-100, men synes stadig at Esk. 724 havde det smukkeste jetfly i moderne historie ;-)
