The project is taking a leap forward! I was finally able to obtain a genuine ACES II ejection seat for the F-15C! The plywood ACES II replica that Rob & I built over 20 years ago go the job done, but this...this is a whole new level of cool.

Yep! It's currently in the process of being repaired/rebuilt. I've decided not to repaint it though. (it'll get new decals however)

Thanks! The funny thing is, the plywood model Rob & I built is more comfortable. :D I need to score me a set of the fancy sheepskin covered cushions that they're using these days.

Nice seat! I would love to get one myself. Not to make a full cockpit, but just a basic sim setup. I was in Life Support.the chute fittings are an F16 Frost fittings with the SeaWARS still on them. The L-Shaped devices around the connectors. The real ones have a battery under the white cap that twists off. It’s cool that it has the rouge chute. The spring on that thing is strong. We would inspect the pin and the Larkshead knot that held it. If that pin were to come out when over top and inspecting, it would knock a person out. I don’t recall the process for removing the chute, but it is only about the size of the head rest and a tube out the bottom that connects into the seat where a charge sits to separate it from the seat. We would swap them out and take them to the Para/fab shop. We also inspected the seat kit. You prolly know, but I’m reminiscing… there is a latch on the back edge of the seat pan and it lifts from the back… I’m wondering if this cam from a cockpit egress trainer. Thanks for the nudge down memory lane!

I was able to contact someone that knew more about the seat - it was built in 1992 as a trainer of some kind. the drogue chute container isn't a full one - the plate it rests on is a solid part - it's not a complete head box assembly. I'm hoping to do another video on it soon - I'm under a pile of "infrastructure" projects that need to be done before I can focus my time on the F-15.

@@f15sim I remember our F15 egress trainer in Wing Life Support at Tyndall. I wish I could get ahold of one. Not to make it a fully functional Sim, but to set up close to. I have loved the F15 since I was a kid. I got to see them every day for 3.5 years at Tyndall. I miss the sound and smell of the flight line. Reading the TO’s and doing the safety checks just to get to the point of being able to do the inspection always gave me a weird feeling thinking about what would happen if…. The F4 was a completely different seat, but I heard stories of a battery replacement under the console while is Life Support school. Someone took a shortcut and the poles of the battery touched the metal panel which charged the seat with the tech sitting upside down in the seat with his head under the panel. Made me distrustful of the seat while maintaining! LOL. A model such as the one you got would be an amazing find. They are not easy to find.

@@Freediver_72 There's an Ejection Seat group on Facebook that I think you'd get a kick out of. Lots of Martin-Baker folks there. Some of the people on the group work for companies that build the ACES II/5 and others.

I had the "pleasure" to repack my chutecontainer after accidentially opening it - wise decision! :)
@f15sim
@f15sim Год назад
I've got a head box with the drogue unpacked. I've never been able to get it back into that tiny space it's compressed into. :) The drogue container on my seat is packed, it's just the clips around the sides are disconnected. Once I learn how the drogue is correctly re-packed and I've done it a few times on the other container I have, I'll see what I can do with the one that's on the seat. Until then, I'm not going to disturb it. :)

Noticed you have the "Blade" type harness connectors, which in research only came on F-16s which you definitely have the side handles, but also keep in mind the A-10 has those handles but they are raised. Very cool, beautiful seat for your F-15.
@f15sim
@f15sim Год назад
I haven't had a chance to go through the seat and identify all the oddities. :) I've got a copy of TO 13A5-56-11, which is the operation & maintenance manual for the F-16, A-10, and F-15 versions of the ACES II. That will help me "true up" the seat to make sure it's using all the correct parts.

Hi Gene, im working on a Hornet sim would by chance you be able to provide me with a part number for the Jettison switch, im seeing the F15 has a very similar switch in the cockpit from your old posts in 2002, and id be interested to know what part that would be called. Im trying to source something close/similar for my own cockpit. I was lucky enough to stumble on a direct replica of the AUX panels that the Hornet uses so im trying to do something very similar to what you have accomplished.

Are you referring to the black & yellow striped "PUSH TO JETT" button that's to the left of the artificial horizon, or are you referring to the "JETT" selector knob & pushbutton that's on the lower right corner of the MPCD?
@Datttsnake
@Datttsnake 4 месяца назад
@f15sim the one that's on the middle MFD, it has about 9 different rotary selections it looks like. Is there more then one rotary like that in the pit?
@Datttsnake
@Datttsnake 4 месяца назад
@f15sim ideally the one I'm looking for is the one of the left side MFCD, near the landing gear, with the button. The yellow and black one also is of interest if you know more about that part aswell. Really any information you can provide on who makes these parts, how to obtain, and how to use them in a simulator would help. I'm having a bad time finding these items, so if I could aquire your help it would be amazing.

@f15sim yes that'd the correct type but it won't work for my needs unfortunately. I'm trying to find the real switch, because I have real panels on hand with real measurement replicas for the panel itself. Something like that will not work for my application as it does not fit within the panels I have.

Seating how worn the ejection handles are I guess it’s from an ejection simulator/trainer
@f15sim

You'd think, but the egress folks I've talked to (so far) don't think it was any kind of training device. They're not sure what it is. I'm hoping that someone will recognize it and reach out to me.

I got the PrintNC "mechanically complete" in December, but backed off because I wanted to replace the X & Y rollers as well as install the new pncpro ballscrew nut holders I got for them. I'm going to be shooting a view covering the build up to this point sometime soon.
