That JFS Howl is one of the most beautiful sounds ever engineered by mankind. God bless aviation!

Listened to that sound for 20 years. #1 seemed a little slow coming up to speed. It could be the difference in 200s vs. 100s, or I could be off a little after all it has been 20 years since I retired. - Thanks for posting.

#1 was certainly slow. JFS is giving up the ghost.

#2 engine (R/H) was slow to start properly because he motored it to long he should have moved the R/H throttle over the hump sooner. No big deal! You normally start the #2 R/H first then #1 L/H engine.

@tftrainman
@tftrainman 3 года назад
@Busch Light oh but I bet I do.... Lol I was stationed at Kadena with 56 of them for 2 years. If it wasn't a JFS fire it was either a hydraulic leak or failure of some sort. But I still love them nonetheless lol I ran many inflight responses on them while I was there.
@tftrainman
@tftrainman 3 года назад
@Busch Light lol nah definitely not. I have truly loved the eagles since i was a kid but I've definitely seen the bad sides of them as well. Can't even honestly count howa many times I've had to do a walk around/under one while I was running to check for hot brakes and hydraulic leaks. Not to mention how many we caught in the MAAS on a daily.

@Busch Light lol I never said I actually worked on them as a mechanic lol. I was freinds with both mechanic and pilots while I was active duty but now MY sense of the word working on these jets was in emergency situations. As far as taking one a part or putting it back together you'd be correct I don't know anything about that lol but I do know how much they like to break lol

Question for F-15 drivers, and everyone else who might know the answer... Why does the engine gauge max up at 96% in full military throttle, but there is no indication anywhere for the afterburner stages (aside from drawing off of rpm and fuel-consumption)? Or do you flyboys in real life have an indicator or a series of lights that indicate your different reheat/ab stages? Also, regarding the throttle, is there any extra resistance or clicks that indicate you are leaving mil power and activating a/b? Just a simmer here =) I have, sadly, never even seen a fighter up close in my life (Outside of Sims/VR).
@hackerf15e
@hackerf15e 6 лет назад
No, there is no indicator showing which "stages" of the burner are lit. There is a slight friction hump between MIL power and going into burner. There's really no reason to have any indication of how much AB you have beyond the position of the throttle. It is not a precision tool...it is an axe, not a scalpel.
@sadekgheidan
@sadekgheidan 6 лет назад
Thank you for actually answering two questions that have been in my mind for many months!
@T-N-TRacing
@T-N-TRacing 5 лет назад
The reason your RPM doesnt go up any higher after Mil power is because that's the engines max RPM. You gain no engine speed with after burner, you just dump loads of fuel into the "can" or exhaust to greatly increase thrust.
@MattH-wg7ou
@MattH-wg7ou 5 лет назад
You can also use nozzle position to guage AB. Fuel flow, RPM, nozzle. There is friction going from Mil to AB but not for different AB stages...you more feel that seat of pants. On T/O, fuel flow rates in the 45k lbs per hour per engine are normal. 96% is just the ops limit. The EMD will show up to like 104% or 106% I think.
@thefogg
@thefogg 8 лет назад
since it is abit of an older plane. i can only think of it as on how you start a 60's carbed car, cranking it over with the choke. since it has 2 engines, that starter gets worn out pretty fast
