I was 8 months old when this video was made. I’m now a Captain for the same airline. Although the uniforms, name titles and food service may have changed. That Crappy’s explaining of safety, crew coordination and comfort still is true now. Cool video. ✈️😎
A cool time capsule of flying when I was 3 years old. As a kid, I have fond memories of my mother taking my sister and I out to the airport to watch planes. Piedmont Airlines in the 80s became my personal favorite. As a teenager, I become a Piedmont frequent flyer and accrued miles for my first free ticket at the age of 16. The rest is history for this avgeek globetrekker. Thanks mom. RIP.
When I was 9 years old, my parents and I vacationed in Southern California for an entire summer. I was lucky enough to fly on each of the jets shown in this film. We flew to San Diego with a stop in Chicago from Detroit. It was my first flight. I recall really well my grandfather driving us to Metro, my dad buying me an American Airlines tote bag, which I still have, and arriving in San Diego at night. I was surprised when we arrived that we deplaned onto the runway. I was hopeful we would be able to fly on the new 747, but was disappointed to learn San Diego was too small to accommodate the new, bigger jet. After 2 months, my father had to return to his job at Ford, and my mother and I continued our vacation, staying with her sister in Poway. My folks surprised me for our flight home. My dad had arranged for my mom and I to fly to LAX, and continue to DTW on the new 747. I had no idea of the surprise until my mother and I checked in at San Diego for out flight to LAX. I was too excited. I was even more surprised when we were on our way to find a full lounge in the rear of the plane with club chairs, chrome table lamps, and a bar tender. My mom and I sat in the back lounge for a while enjoying the flight. When we arrived, I had an American Airlines Richie Rich comic book in my tote bag, and a lifetime of memories of one of the best vacations I ever took with my folks. I’ll never forget the summer of 1971, and all the adventures we went on.
Pretty certain the cockpit crew members retired years ago. But the stews, I mean the flight attendants, wonder if any of them are still around. I've had flight attendants hired in the 60s on my crew.
@@friendlysky7674 Sure they did, back in the mid to late 1960's. In fact, the 990 was more or less built for AA, and CR Smith drove a hard bargain, nearly bankrupting Convair in the process, although that was not his intention! Although the airplane was a commercial failure, it was a good airliner, and some airlines operated them (usually second hand) until the late 70's or beyond.
American Airlines AA Boeing 727 domestic service over 53 years ago! Impeccable high quality service back then. Now lost with deregulation of 24th October 1978. Cheap fares today, but no service, just a bus with wings in 2023! Ansett 727.
@@sdasmarchives My guess as well. I started flying the 727 at AA in 1986 but I only remember it having overhead bins with doors, not the old hat racks.
