I googled it. It looks like the Czech Republic gets about as many tornadoes in a thousand years as the US might see in one. I'm guessing these people simply underestimated the danger and were not familiarized
This is exactly it. They aren't as prepared or knowledgeable about them. They knew it was dangerous but didn't fully understand how to get to safety so they did all they knew to do. If anything though 6 deaths and ~150 injuries actually speaks a lot to their ability to sense danger and get to safety despite the lack of awareness to the real danger of a tornado this powerful, as well as speaking to the structural integrity of their construction considering the power of this tornado and largely most of the damaged structures only suffered torn off roofing rather than being left as a husk or a slab(even if it was at IF4 rating briefly) all things considered.
I can clearly see that you are more familiar with this information than I am. I just wanted to point out that United States citizens who know full well how dangerous tornadoes can be, are also still standing out on the porch filming them with their phones when they should be in hiding.
The residents were completely surprised by this, standard summer thunderstorm which passes turned into this phenomenon. This happened in a region where never ever before such element was experienced. As far as any history on record goes. Southern Moravia in the Czech Republic. Never tornadoes, never any hurricanes or earthquakes. Central Europe. Everything is changing all over and it’s quite scary. My parents live in the next town, happened to be in neighbors wine cellar tasting wines for upcoming festivities. My mom literally thought the apocalypse is coming. It’s the end of the world, she thought. She hid under a table. Everyone came out ok, they came home to a disaster and major destruction. Thankfully all lives were spared, animals too. The houses are built of brick and strong concrete foundations there (unless new construction chooses American framing and Sheetrock / stucco in which case they’re gone KO) So most exteriors needed repairs , new windows and roofs, many homes however were completely demoed. The whole country came to help and they quickly rebuilt. All differences set aside, help was the priority.
Yeah. My state suffered the worst flooding recorded in history this past May. The state capital had been flooded last time in 1941. The flood this time surpassed that historical flood in half a meter. Some neighborhoods stayed underwater for an entire month. The airport was submerged and was re inaugurated today

Hi, in my country - the Czech Republic - tornadoes hardly occur at all. Especially not tornadoes that strong. These people haven't seen anything like that, but they're fine.
I was in an EF-3. It was like nothing else anybody could experience. A stop sign ripped through the house and got stuck to the tailgate of my father's pickup truck, leaving a very small hole, behind it. But, it went through four walls. If it would have hit anybody, they would have been cut in half. When we came out of the cellar, we did not recognise our neighbourhood. The sounds were incredible!
Oh dear Lord the mental image I had of that stop sign flying through 4 walls and, thank God not a person, and embedding in the tailgate of a truck was horrifying!!! 😱
Wow! I'm glad you all survived. Just experienced my first tornado in July 2024. It was an EF-0 in parts of the city of Chicago. My neighborhood took a direct fit. There were so many trees uprooted and power lines. Winds were clocked at 80 to 85 miles an hour. We were without power for 16 hours. Due to global warming, they told us to expect more. I was terrified, just hearing the winds.
@@autumnsmom1117 I would have to say the wind sounds are the most terrifying aspect of the tornado. We know there will be massive damage, just by the sound. The rain, clouds, darkness, are quite unnerving. But the sirens and wind noise is a new definition of terror. In the celler, we could see nothing except water coming in through the floor drains and sink drain. The toilet overflowed by itself. We could not see the cloudiness, nor the dark greenish sky. But, even with the heavy steel doors closed and latched from the inside, the horrific noises went through them like they were not there. The vibration on the heavy steel doors was unreal. My father had to turn the big wheel twice because the vibrations made the lock wheel reverse slowly. We did not notice the water rising in the celler shelter because we were terrified of the devastating sounds coming from outside. It was so strange to hear the banging on the doors stop and the horrifying wind noises leaving. When we could not hear the wind sound any more, we came out to a place so changed that we did not recognise where we were. The old stone part of the house was standing strong, complete with the old style roof, though damaged. The new half of the house was completely gone. Not even the flooring was left.
@indridcold8433 Wow, that was an experience. I read up on tornados after this. Ours happened at 10:01 pm. Sirens went off at 8:30 p.m., and my cell phone was giving alerts also. The city stated they would start building shelters. I have a two flat with a crawl space. They stated never go into those spaces. I will go into a lower closet. I took photos the next day. It did knock some shingles off. We live by a park, so many trees were knocked down. Did a lot of clean-up the next day. Some suburban areas had an EF-1. Went out and purchased more flashlights, batteries, go bags, etc. All the best.
This is the best tornado video I’ve ever seen. When that person peeked the final time to look at it and hearing and seeing how powerful it is was fascinating. Amazing footage
I thought we stood by the windows too much in Texas, but this is insane!! 😂 I love extreme weather, but even I would have run for cover about a minute sooner. Hope they were okay. 🙏🏻
this is because its in the Czech Republic where weve never before had tornadoes untill a few years ago, people were totally caught by surprise. Long live the climate change, hey!
@Hana-su7zg Or better yet weather manipulation. I don't believe all these occurrences with hurricanes, tornados etc are all happening natural. I believe they are being messed with by the hand of man.
Listen I’m from Iowa, where it’s a running joke that we all go outside to watch a tornado instead of taking cover. I can only think maybe these people just don’t understand what they’re seeing and how dangerous it is.
Difference is we midwesterners know what a tornado looks like and sounds like. We know the power and destruction that an ef4 or 5 can do. We go outside and watch because there’s a weatherman with a Doppler radar telling us who’s in the path and giving us turn by turn commentary so we’re never caught unaware. People abroad have no idea what we Americans put up with
@petkoharry8885 so you see something you have never seen before causing devastation on a catastrophic level barrelling in your direction and first thing you do is grab a phone and hit record. I understand the fascination and the want to document, but you also have to consider safety too.
Wow, I must have replayed those last 10 seconds over a hundred times. That’s insane, it’s hard to imagine looking out my window and seeing & hearing something like that
You should hear the sound when the World Trade Center towers collapsed.... horrific, & I've only heard it in videos of that day!! Actually, the sound was surprisingly similar to this during the actual collapses, but no way you could hear any voices during it.
This is one of the best tornado videos I've ever watched, it almost even tops Clem's and Reed Timmer. Wow. That last view out the window is _terrifying,_ it actually shows what the tornadic winds are doing outside a home!
@@funkdoktor9099 I thought about it after your reply too, in the last moment before it goes to black you can even see the house across the street going. I don't know if it was fear or sheer determination that kept him rolling, but he literally gave up everything but his own life just to record that video. That video will always be the GOAT.
That last shot was like something out of Hollywood. The camera approaching the broken window showing the intensity of the wind, the woman screaming in the background, and then absolutely nothing as the shot goes black.
@KassiLyn no. You can scream through a tornado right above you. I know. I did it. That monster stayed right there for 2 solid minutes. Someone under a concrete stairway was timing it. I was busy hanging on.
I can't imagine having to hunker down with a force of nature barreling toward you. 😢 To capture it & post for those of us who rarely see it up close..unbelievable courage. 😢

When I saw this video, it reminded me of a story my grandad told me at my uncle’s party. We were sitting right next to the speakers, and the music was so loud I couldn’t hear a thing. I know it's just a joke, but since I'm an artistic pedant: • This is at the southern edge of the tornado, IIRC, and when it was "only" at *IF3* strength... • ...but it still destroyed *over 30 houses* & other structures, as an *IF3,* in Moravská Nová Ves; • In Mikulčice, at one of its *IF4* intensity maxima, about half a dozen homes were *completely wiped away* & another six or seven were razed to rubble; • Here, in *Lužice,* we're seeing it back at a strong *IF3;* several more homes & other structures were destroyed; and... • ...a few _more_ structures were demolished after this, as well (after it weakened to IF2 then roared back to IF3 for a pass at one final village). Six people died, IIRC, and dozens more were severely injured. There's a reason tornado _shelters_ are built, in other words. The damage would undeniably have been more extensive were these cardboard U.S. homes, true - *but* we see that even at IF4 _or just IF3,_ a direct hit can still tear even the mighty CZ House™ down. ----------------------------------------------- As for *xF5s* - *Jarrell, TX, 1997:* • A particularly nasty F5 hit a well-built - European- (Spanish-) -style, note - home, _with heavy stone walls _*_over 2' thick._* • Sill plates, well-anchored, built way above-code; extremely expensive & quite unusual, in these parts. The home was still just... utterly swept away - and so violently & totally that *even the plumbing fixtures had been ripped out of the concrete slab.* I suppose the *TL;DR* would just be that: ...there are very few structures - in any country - which are going to do well against a Jarrell-type monster!¹ ----------------------------------------------- ¹: _("Unique - even among (E)F5s - to the Jarrell event is that it appears to _*_have been unsurvivable above-ground,_*_ in the core of the damage path. [...] I have never seen, before or since, the kind of devastation surveyed in Double Creek Estates."_ - Maximilian Hagen, of the Extreme Planet meteorological blog.) *_(note:_*_ paraphrased slightly for context - I encourage anyone interested to go look at the articles on Jarrell, and/or Philadelphia MS, for the full details.)_
@@Accelerate55 The only house that would be tornado PROOF would be underground with no windows. Some people who live in areas of frequent tornadoes also can have flooding, so pick your poison. Are windowless underground homes affordable for the majority of the population?
@@Accelerate55such a redundant comment. The tornadoes that level entire blocks of houses are all usually EF-4’s. There’s not a single building in Europe that can withstand that. God Europeans are annoying asf.
It's the wind screaming at them for their arrogance... _"How dare you underestimate me. I'm here now. Fear me."_ Tornadoes make me understand why we thought the weather was Gods back in the day.
Are you at all embarrassed for repeating the most unoriginal and over used line in RU-vid shorts? You’ve basically just admitted to the internet that you can’t come up with an original thought yourself and so you just regurgitate tired cliches. I just know I’d be very embarrassed if that was me.
That tornado looked upset and sounded very angry ! I went through Katrina and it legit sounded like a banshee was screaming out there.. that wind is insane
I appreciated her valor that was the most insane thing somebody can do. My mother family leave in Oklahoma and twice we were chased by a tornado I was running 110 miles and we couldn’t see it the first time but the second time wasn’t pretty. Tornados doesn’t know face or has a soul if you see one run,run and keep running because tornado are extremely dangerous. I hope that lady and her family are well and healthy. God bless us👋👋👋
This happened in Czechia, nobody really knows about Tornadoes there. They probably thought it's "just some crazy wind" and couldn't believe their eyes.
A tree which is as tall as a house, rarely survive. So sad to lose these magnificent conifers. A very sad day for those who lived thru it. The person who filmed this was lucky to have survived this severe weather event! HUGS❤
I was expecting the cow from Twister to randomly show up at one point, just so someone could comment "Cow! Another cow!" Followed by, "Actually I think that was the same one."
I'm from Glasgow but was stateside when the big E-F5 hit Joplin MO. I sustained a direct hit. This one is very reminiscent of that day. I shall not forget it and very much feel for you. Bravo for having the courage to stay and catch it on video. Hope you made it through !
I arrived in Joplin a few hours after the tornado to help begin the response. I stayed for two weeks. I will never forget the things I saw. I live about three hours South in Arkansas, where tornadoes are also very common. EF5 Tornadoes are very rare. We haven't had one in 11 years. God be with anybody near one.
Not courage, but stupidity! You saw how fast that wind was going; that is exactly how a poker card can impale a brick. He has a kid and should’ve been more careful for the sake of that child; he could’ve very easy been impaled by something next to the window, or sucked out the window, in just a split second. Very good close up view of that tornado though; I just don’t think it’s worth your life though.
We were recently hit by an F-1 or F-2 tornado (haven’t received the official rating yet) and it was the worst thing I’ve ever been through. The worst part is the calm before the storm where you can hear the wind but the trees aren’t moving. Then the trees were gone.
Yeah you have been told that in America. But over here in central Europe, we have so few tornadoes that nobody ever thinks what they are seeing is a tornadoes. There are no warning systems, people don't get taught what to do during a tornado. They think this is some pretty insane wind, and that's about it.
Growing up in SE Kansas I've seen and have been through my share of violent tornadic storms. Although I have to admit, this is some of the best footage I've seen. Absolutely terrifying.
If this tornado had hit a US neighborhood , nothing would be left standing , nothing . In Europe , houses are built strong not out of plywood , but with solid concrete .
True, the damage would have been way worse in the U.S. But - don't forget that what we see here is the *edge* of the tornado when at *IF3* strength. Even so, in this & another few villages, it destroyed over 30 homes (& damaged many more) "just" as an IF3... ...and - right before it hit the area filmed here, IIRC - it had been at IF4 intensity, and _completely wiped away_ at least a *half-dozen stone/masonry dwellings.* Six people died, if I recall the numbers correctly, and some much-larger amount were severely injured - and again, that's mostly as an IF3, with only one main area (Mikulcice) of IF4 damage. *No* areas of IF5 intensity... thank God. Doesn't matter _how_ you build your houses when you get to that level...
Takes me back to 1998 where my family and I lost everything except a picture of Jesus, Elvis & 1 gold fish that survive laying sideways in what little water was left of the what once was a large tank. If not for my storm shelter my mother, dog & I would not be here now, safety always please

That's the only time in history that I've seen a recording of inside a tornado. I almost can't believe they made it. Also, this occurred in the Czech Republic, IIRC.
