Dad flew the F-86. He spoke very fondly of the D model, which he referred to as “the hottest thing in the inventory” at the time. Blew over some beach umbrellas courting my mom at Ft Monroe, Va. Still have the black and white photo of him climbing out of the a/c after his 100th mission in Korea w/ the 51st FIS. RIP Dad!❤
I was surprised when, while stationed on Okinawa in 1978, I was picking up a guy at Naha International Airport... and I saw a Japanese Self-Defense Force F-86 Sabre taking off. Still in use in 1978... that is a LONG life.
My father, Major Donald Adams, is the briefing officer at 21:17 of the video. He went on to become an Ace with 6.5 victories with the 51st Fighter Wing.
Love this plane...very first model kit i built WAAAAYYYYY back in the day when i was about 8 or 9 years old (47 years old now) was the matchbox 1/72 sabre.loved it.🙂
These are exactly like Discovery Wings clones, much of the exact same 80's synth music. Exact same narrator, but different content and new stock footage. Thanks for uploading this for sure
Man love your fighter plane documentaries. I honestly thought ive seen them all then you surprise me with these. Excellent work my friend please keep them coming.
In the fall of '75 I was riding my bicycle on our base at Osan, Republic of (South) Korea. I heard what I thought was a large vacuum cleaner, and was surprised to see a ROKAF F86 in the pattern. I was quite used to seeing McDonnell F4E Phantom II aircraft. The takeaways were how much sma,let and quieter the F86 was, and at pattern speeds, how much slower the F86 was vs the F4E.
The F86 had full hydraulic power assi,t and rhe pilot had an anti g suit ro assist him. THE mig had to manually move rhe flight controls and no G suit!
