For what it's worth, as a viewer my respect for a creator (and their opinion on things) grows when they have one of these "man I wanted to like it but here's the things that are wrong with it"-type videos once in a while. It does increase the value of other actual endorsements.

The worst is the ad spots where they claim they use the product when there's no way they do but you could believe it.

Because of your video on the Razer KIYO PRO webcam I ended up buying it about a year after you promoted it. When I first got it and installed Razer Synapse and the drivers for the webcam I turned on the cam and there was this awful artifact streak that would slowly move its way down the screen then start from the top again and do it again. Also showed up in video recordings. I thought I was bamboozled but then about 2 months later Razer had an update for the web cam and now IT'S AN AMAZING WEB CAM! So I do believe that some companies do care and fix problems. I wasn't mad at you for the recommendation to be clear. Just sharing my experience as the purchaser of a sponsored product. I still support ya.

When it comes to Brand deals/sponsorships on RU-vid, I usually just skip or ignore them. Creators need money, and as long as it doesn't come at the cost of quality of the content I care about it doesn't bother me

Quite honestly I think more reviews need to be like yours. If a company has confidence in its product to send off to reviewers then they should be willing to accept criticism of it. Making creators/influencers afraid to criticise bad aspects only serves to make future offerings worse.

The algorithm has led to me to a kindred spirit. I'm operating in a completely different arena, but I can tell you this-- the environment is exactly the same. Most "creators" have devolved into making nothing more than paid ads-- which would be fine, were they not masquerading as reviews. It seems you can have integrity and a money, or just shill out and grab the cash when you can.

Just be honest. There's tons of youtubers who review stuff and absolutely tear it to pieces. They still get brand deals, because people know that when they say it's good, they mean it. Heck, MasterLock still sends locks to the Lockpicking Lawyer, and they are practially a punchline on his channel. There's a guy who literally does electronic teardowns of Temu products listing every fault, and he says he still gets emails from them asking him to do brand deals.

If your level is a 6k set up it's always gonna be hard to go back. It's just the truth.

There was a time on RU-vid where audiences refused sponsored content from creators. Eventually audiences accepted sponsorships so long as the creator used and liked the product. Over time though, creators have come to accept any and all sponsorships no matter if they use them or not, and I find that disappointing. I think creators might not have a full grasp of what companies pay for when they buy a sponsored segment. They aren't buying ad space, they're buying an endorsement. Creators have a relationship with their audience, the audience trusts them and they're more likely to buy or consume the promoted product. VPNs have been especially egregious sponsor in my eyes. I've heard many of them are great to work with, but I can guarantee the majority of creators doing VPN sponsorships do not understand VPNs. I understand that creators need to get paid but when you're acting as an ambassador for a product you don't use it's dishonest and, honestly, a little manipulative. It feels gross.

Good video man, this is a very legit frustration both for you guys making the vids and viewers not knowing if a recommendation is legit! And for those cheap, crappy companies a perfect recommendation is all they're looking for. But when you have a legit company come along showing positives and where things could be improved (as long as you aren't just throwing shit their way) can o ly be a good thing. 👌

I've been looking high and low for a good webcam. Got the snowball yeti mic for 50 bucks. And it's no Shure but it's a good mic for it's price. No bloat, just goodish sound. What is the snowball webcam? I'm just working from home and want te be heard and seen decently!

Do you endear yourself to the viewer and give them an honest review they can trust, or pander to the companies that toss out shit for you shill for? As a viewer im obviously biased and I overlook the issue of you as a creator becoming a brand risk at the same time running the risk of not garnering of a viewer base to make it worth it. Rock and a hard place. Much respect.

Proceeds to show a completely overpriced average product that they'll never mention of again, and maybe even do a sponsored video of a competing product less than a year later. Outside of tech, things like wallets are the worst because they act like it's a revolutionary space saving wallet despite it being impossible to save any extra space over the minimalist wallets from 20 years ago. 3 card pockets surrounded by a super thin bit of leather can't be made any more slim than it already is. Or razors is another one, like the recent one that appeared everywhere which is made by a military company which apparently means it's more precise than any others.
