It is very touching for me to witness this artist grow... I've been subscribing Ms Lisitsa since 2014. And now, you can count, 8 years of time watching every video of her in her channel. Yes, EVERY video! I can bravely tell you that I studied her every move, every concept, and every mistake (of cuz there are some, she's human and no exception), and arrive a conclusion --- I haven't heard such kind of bravery, touch, articulations, tone color, drama as in these chopin scherzi recordings. I read her post on FB mentioning her complete change of finger techniques and visionaries on music, and the dedication of this chopin album to her deceased mother are just overwhelming. I am touched not just because of her beautiful music kept surprising me but the heart-felt dedication to music, the enthusiasm to perfection in conveying messages from both the performer and composer itself. Tbh, I dislike her interpretation of chopin scherzi for the first listen (yes, fans don't blame me yet! keep reading! LOL) The touch was not sugar-coat and silk-like chopin style as expected. Yet, I just listen and think thoroughly simutaneously... I ask myself, do I have the authority to judge someone's interpretation 'purely wrong'? Then I think outside the box... That is, the 'meaning of scherzo' in Chopin. We often over-interpret scherzo as something hilarious and light-hearted. Yet, when I study the writing of these 4 scherzi, I found that Chopin is not making fun with the mood at all. (You know, #1 is presto and agitated, B minor symbolises horror, death, funeral, anger... Then #2,3 are again, in minor keys.) All the 'jokes' he made were countertales. Now, back to Ms Lisitsa's playing. She probably played with anguish power, the harsh sound occasionally, and without the leisurely tempo... At the moment I realize what she was doing, I suddenly convinced. I felt the darkness of the world, the loneliness she experienced while parting with mother during covid... I cried. At the end, I couldn't help but ranking her interpretations of scherzi the first in my heart. Words of gratitude still won't stop here ;)) I wanted to thank Ms Lisitsa for always being my inspiration, the guide, the role model of a true artist. Just wanted to quote her words here 'We are free to express in music' and 'Make sure you tell a story' (the later one is probably in a video of her giving masterclass for a kid on Beethoven sonata 10/3). You made a lot of top-notch performances and I can't tell all. But here are some genuinely unbeatable interpretations in yours hands: Beethoven Sonata Op.10 No.3, Beethoven Sonata Op.2 No.2, Liszt la campanella, Liszt totentanz (studio recording version), Rachmaninoff rhapsody on a theme by paganini.

First came one of mankind's finest inventions, the piano. Then came the genius of Chopin. Now Valentina gives them marvellous voice, in another sensitively-produced video. For us, it is bliss. Thank you. ❤

I am very happy that you have a following. I have been listening to serious music since my teens and through a wonderful high school music teacher, who introduced us to Baroque, Romantic, Jazz, Swing and choral, I fell in love with non- popular music. It is wonderful that serious music is still enjoyed by many people around the world, and it gives me hope and pleasure to know that I am not alone in my love of these pieces.

Oh! The voicing! The whole choir is there in my ears. This is very typical of you Valentina. Perfect combinations of voices that never get muddled by the pedal or leaning the wrong way on the bass etc. Thank you ~ I don't have to be anxious that something is going to go wrong or displease my ear. It's so peaceful and fun.😁

Hi I'm a new subscriber and I've been playing catchup with all of your video's you are so impressive to watch and listen to. But I have just one question, do you have a photographic memory ? I have never seen you have to read music to play it all seems to be in your head and hands. Again you are very impressive.

I always associate Chopin’s E-major scherzo with early-morning takeoff. That’s because it’s what happened to be playing when I dialed into the in-flight entertainment when I first took off in the morning to New York on the way to Israel. I remember hoping that I hadn’t missed the trio, and then breathing a sigh of relief on the phrase leading into the sinewy minor-mode melody. I find it fascinating that Chopin, in his last scherzo, turns the minor-major contrast of his previous three on its head. I’ve been waiting so long for Ms. Lisitsa’s take on this one after I heard No. 1. Of course I also listened to Nos. 2 and3.
