This video was shot during the 600 yard championship match at Ben Avery during the 2015 Berger SW Nationals. Winds were ~18 MPH and gusting to 30 MPH according to the weather report. Pay attention to the flags and also to how fast the smoke gets blown away from the muzzle of the rifle.
Rifle Specs:
.284 Shehane
32" Brux barrel
Kelbly F-Class Panda action
Blueprinted Jewell trigger set at 1 oz.
Shurley Brothers lowrider stock
EC Tuner to adjust barrel harmonics

Great shooting Erik. The wind was nasty and you are a master at reading it and adjusting, been there done that miserably myself at a much shorter distance.

That's not a bipod, it's a mechanical front rest. It's a SEB NEO.

Hello Eric thanks for your time and effort into these videos, Wondering what contour barrel and twist you run,I believe you do your own machining? Or do you order from someone you would recommend. Thank you for your time

Liked and subbed. Erik, congratulations on fine shooting. Those days separate the pack for sure. What kind of firing solution/dope are you setting up with your loads? When I shoot midrange, I usually have a spotter or spotting scope focused at various distances to gauge mirage/wind. I don't c either here. Are you 'calling' your own windage using your riflescope alone? Are the flags THAT useful? Just curious what you're thinking during the string, typically. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!!

+D. A. Pascarella I read mirage through my rifle scope. In that kind of wind, I don't trust wind flags because they are "maxed out" and I can't reliably pick up wind changes. Also, switches were so quick that if I look through a spotting scope, conditions would change by the time I got back on gun and fired shot.

On this string it was a 195-?X I followed it up with another 195 and finished up with a 199. The 199 is what gave me overall win because most of the guys leading at that point dropped 9 or 10 points on the last string.

It is difficult to tell how the wind is effecting your shooting. I hear the wind. However, I can't see anything other than the area around your rest / action.. I believe you when you said it was very difficult.. I heard from others that the wind was atrocious! To win in those conditions must have felt pretty awesome! Great shooting!

Ben, look at the flags on the horizon. There is one flag right above the rest and the other one is on the right side by the berm.

Erik Cortina I did not see them til you mentioned it! It looks like they would go from FULL value R-to-L then immediately switch to straight away from you (your back towards the target).. That would be tough indeed. You better not miscalculate the timing of the switch IF POSSIBLE! Yeeoww ...

I want to get into this quite badly. Where would you recommend a beginner start out? Located in AZ by the way.
@ErikCortina

Start by shooting midrange matches (300 or 600 yards). Once you start, others shooters will help you out and you will soon be ready to shoot long range. Phoenix is a great place to be as they shoot weekly there I believe.

Yes we are, and some ranges even have covered firing lines. However, this is a Palma match, meaning that we start shooting at 800, then move back to 900, and finish off at 1,000 yards. If we set up tents at 800 and 900, they would have to be taken down as the shooters moved back to 900, and then again when they move to 1,000 yards. So, technically, it's impossible to have them during a Palma match.
