How to debunk wage gap myth: Lets take 10 teachers and 10 programmers. Among teachers there are 9 woman and 1 man; among programmers - 9 man and 1 woman. Each teacher earns 500, each programmer earns 1000. Now, lets calculate the average: all woman combine get paid 5500. average - 550. all man combine get paid 9500. average - 950. see, the wage gap! this is how it's calculated. it exist, but people on same profession are paid equally. It's like treat all patients in the hospital based on average body temperature.

I looked at a different model created by an economist to show how this "wage gap" exists. He used three career categories (STEM, Managerial and Service/Clerical) he then assigned a "salary" to each (STEM=100,000, Managerial=75,000 & Service=50,000) and each category had 100 employees. In STEM it was 90 men and 10 women, Managerial it was 50/50 and for Service it was 90 women and 10 men. Everyone in each category makes the same money EXCEPT THE WOMEN WHO GET PAID 10% MORE THAN THE MEN IN EVERY CATEGORY. When you then add up and average all of the salaries guess what? The women are only making 77% of what men are making when they are paid 10% more than the men in every category. This is why the single statistic of AVERAGE INCOME BY SEX is totally misleading.

The statistic from the UN is like every other one on this subject, it just looks at the average female salary and compares it to the average male without accounting for the nuances stated. When those things are corrected for the wage gap does not exist in any study.

My wife bought into this myth until I quietly challenged her to look for the data herself. The data in the US alone confirms there is a gap but it’s quite small. Last year it was a man’s dollar to a woman’s 98 cents (50/49), five years ago it was (50/48). The slight difference could also be explained by men negotiating a better salary at the beginning of employment. My wife was shocked when she saw this and to her credit, cannot stand female victim hood any longer. Calls it out when she sees it.

Myron actually explains the negotiating part too. Assertiveness is a key trait for better salary. Which is why when a female is assertive, it is deemed a negative/masculine trait for attracting the opposite sex.

It's not about the negotiating as much as it is about the variables. The wage gap myth TOTALS ALL PROFESSIONS AND PEOPLE. It does not separate by age, experience, accomplishments, value, type of job, length of time in the workforce etc... If you total everything out, of course there is a wage gap. Men work harder and longer. The truth of the matter is, as Myron said, women choose lesser paying, less strenuous jobs and stay there less time than men do. They choose to make less.

Very well put as always Myron. Another strong reason why men earn more than women is that men are far more likely to travel for better paid jobs, either by commuting long distances, by living away from home, or by moving home for better pay. Women are far less likely to to this.

It's flat out illegal to pay women less in first world countries. My job is salary and there are a lot of women there that are single mothers and they are almost always late or leaving early because of their kids or are gone for several months because they had babies. And that's not including when they have feminine medical issues that they need to leave work for. All of that brings work productivity down, raises stress and frustration at work and piles the excess work on the men. I'm not against equal pay by any means, but I agree with Myron. Men do deserve to be paid more. Women want to do the same types of jobs men do, but are hindered by biology and physiology.

You have to look at what companies do to save money. High labor costs is a problem with companies especially small to medium sized ones. So he was trying to say that if companies COULD pay women less, they would hire women and save more on labor costs. And let's keep it a stack. Sex trafficking is not just men. Women also participate and attract men and women to get them into sex trafficking. Also to name sex trafficking when the conversation was about LEGAL industries is indicative to her view on what is real..... And for the lady in red, you really need to think about what's real.
