It would have been even better had Lauda announced his immediate retirement after Portugal of 84.... In 79 he called it quits way too early, by 1985 he stayed too long. 1984, would have been great time to end it on a podium and championship win. Better to have left it on a "what if he could have been a 4 time champion". Instead, we now have the fairytale of 84 turning into a very sour 85 crashing out his last GP and Mclaren being less than gracious to him upon retirement.
