Was good to do this with the classic cars, I miss them wish they would put them in the 2021 game.

My useless knowledge becomes relevant! I've been keeping track of top speeds for f1 modding purposes and I have some pretty interesting data about the real cars. TL;DR at the bottom-ish. We'll go in video order: Williams - Funny thing with the williams is that it's actually the fastest car on average at LOW DOWNFORCE tracks, reason being they tend to run lower downforce. This differs greatly from the game where it is has the highest amount of drag for any car. The only reason it's not the outright slowest is the mercedes engine in-game is a bit op. MEDIUM DOWNFORCE tracks are bit different though, they are only the fourth fastest on average. In-game all cars get the same 7% drag increase from moving to a MEDIUM DOWNFORCE track, which means codemasters don't take aero efficiency at differing downforce levels into account. This saddens me greatly, but to be fair at release they wouldn't have enough data to know so it's fair enough. The performance patch usually doesn't account for it either though so no excuses there. Moving on to HIGH DOWNFORCE tracks (just Monaco really) it is again the fourth fastest car. Haas - They're slow. Real slow. In fact they are to the surprise of no one the slowest car on average at LOW DOWNFORCE circuits. Nothing much to say really thier car is draggy and they've got a ferrari engine in the back. At MEDIUM DOWNFORCE it gets a bit better for them as they move the fifth. Somewhat hilariously it seems for the Spanish GP they didn't actually bring a higher downforce configuration and just ran their base level, which meant they went about 10 kph faster than all the other guys. It does probably skew the results a bit, but it is what it is. At Monaco they were sixth. Alfa Romeo - They end up sitting close to the middle in sixth place on average. Thier car seems somewhat ineffiecient at LOW DOWNFORCE configurations, as when we move to MEDIUM DOWNFORCE they are the outright fastest on average. Perhaps they simply don't bolt on that much more downforce for top speed's sake but that's not really knowable. At Monaco that Ferrari engine seems to be hurting them as they sit back at seventh. Alpha Tauri - Saw some people commenting on the Alpha being faster than Redbull as strange. It's actually not that strange considering they are! Sometimes. At LOW DOWNFORCE configurations they are the fourth fastest on average. Pretty good showing. Then at MEDIUM DOWNFORCE they take a nose-dive to ninth place on average. They seem to have a good chassis this year but struggle a bit when it comes to aero efficiency. Eighth place at Monaco. Ferrari - Oh how the mighty have fallen. Ferrari have sorted out thier handling now, but still suffer massively from a draggy chassis. They are ninth on average at LOW DOWNFORCE tracks moving to outright slowest at MEDIUM DOWNFORCE. Thier engine is also not helping them of course, but they are on about the same level as Alpine are with thier engine, so it's not entirely attributable to that. At least the chassis is great this year. Fifth at Monaco. Alpine - Speaking of Alpine... They're doing alright actually. Second fastest on average at LOW D- ok you get the point. Though they seem to suffer from efficiency problems at higher downforce levels falling to eighth at MD and again to tenth at Monaco. Like Ferrari their engine is a bit behind compared to the Merc and Honda engines, likely contributing to that last place at Monaco. Aston martin - Aston Martin carry on thier tradition of being a rocket on the straight. Third on average at LD, second on average with MD, and second again at Monaco. Probably gonna be fast at Monza too. McLaren - Did you know? McLaren is actually only the EIGHTH fastest car on average at LD tracks. Massive discrepancy with the game. Though they do move up to third at MD levels. I think a lot of people think the McLaren is super fast on the straight, therefore they can bolt on a lot of downforce. I think it's actually the other way around. They can generate a bunch of downforce, therefore they can take some wing off without losing much. If that is the case it would explain why they're so fast at MD configurations. Basically thier car is efficient at higher downforce levels. Oh yeah, and they were first at Monaco. Red Bull - Red Bull sit seventh at both low and medium downforce configurations. They have been fast on the straight on a few occations, even ending up quickest overall at France, but usually they are on the slower side. Ninth at Monaco. Mercedes - And then there was Mercedes. Fifth on average LD, Sixth at MD, and third at Monaco. Not much to say really. Kind of anti climactic. TL;DR And so, with our newfound knowledge we can make a few lists to see how right the game gets it. LOW DOWNFORCE Real cars: Game cars: 1. Williams 1. McLaren 2. Alpine 2. Alpine 3. Aston Martin 2. Mercedes 4. Alpha Tauri 2. Alpha Tauri 5. Mercedes 3. Aston Martin 6. Alfa Romeo 7. Red Bull 7. Red Bull 8. Alfa Romeo 8. McLaren 9. Ferrari 9. Ferrari 10. Williams 10. Haas 10. Haas Doesn't look terrible, aside from a few obvious one like Williams and McLaren . If we want to quantify it they are about 2.3 places off on average. I doubt we'll be so lucky with medium downforce. Like i said, all the the cars get the same modifier when changing downforce levels, so while the game list stays the same, the real cars are gonna shift pretty massively. MEDIUM DOWNFORCE Real cars: Game cars: 1. Alfa Romeo 1. McLaren 2. Aston Martin 2. Alpine 3. McLaren 2. Mercedes 4. Williams 2. Alpha Tauri 5. Haas 3. Aston Martin 6. Mercedes 7. Red Bull 7. Red Bull 8. Alfa Romeo 8. Alpine 9. Ferrari 9. Alpha Tauri 10. Williams 10. Ferrari 10. Haas Yikes. Doesn't look so good. In fact they are now a massive 3.9 places off on average now. Not good. Look. I get that they don't have all this data available at release. Kind of. The game actually released just before the British GP giving them 9 rounds of data to use. Medium downforce data would've been scarce, but it was there with the Spanish GP and two Austrian GPs. I mean the low downforce rankings are kind of inexcusable, as we have not had a low downforce track (practice data at Spa isn't conclusive enough) since release soo... Woops? Basically Codies bad, make gooder game >:(

Yeah the first half of the season the mclaren was the fastes on the straight but the merc at the end was insane

We have to keep in mind that cars with a better chassis the aero setup is different, influencing their top speeds. I expect Red Bull to have higher top speed as they can run slightly less aggressive wings. How does the game cope with that?

Fun fact, the AI max speed is 399, the player max speed is like 480 or more, or at least that's how it is in F1 2018, I'd need to test it in F1 2021.
