That just looks so frustrating to be in your POV, rental karting is filled with newbies trying to be Max Verstappen, and angry people that think you hit them when they have no idea what happened, like when that guy just drove you into a wall.
It's just something you have to expect and accept with indoor rental karting public sessions. I normally just do outdoor now though which generally has a high skilled pool of drivers compared to indoor.
@@degeautd40 online racing at lower levels can be like that but when you start to rank up and get with similar skilled people, it can be some of the most enjoyable racing you do. AI in games now though like ams2 is really good and can give comparable experiences.
Its a really enjoyable track. I think I was 2/10's off Nico's time from when I went last week. Once you have a clear track without having to be forced to slow down under yelllow with the slow restart process then Its good!
Wow, that's super quick! And yeh, when there is a clear track it's enjoyable but as with most indoor karting public sessions, they're filled with yellow flags.
In the beginning of this video the concept seemed kinda nice with all the graphics and the lights etc. but that all fell apart for me with all these yellow flags and those drivers. The best thing about karting is that it's just you and the machine and nothing between that, but with this it seems like you're always being hindered no matter what you do. It went from "oh I have to try that" to "nah" real quick for me once it got going.
I think it would be a lot better if you go with a group of mates who are all decent at karting. A public session like this is just leaving you open for the chaos that they are known for.
Yeh, when you're focused on the track ahead, it's hard to keep up with the data on the wheel. The main one to see is your position though which is nice and big in the middle so that's nice.
@@degeautd40 yeh pretty much. The audio ques for drs and stuff are useful I found. Let you know when it's ready to be used rather than having to glance at the wheel.
Yeh though it's not consistent across all karts so some are able to carry more speed through the start of yellow sectors. And yep, electric karts, it's the way that indoor karting is moving to in the UK. You won't find many new Indoor tracks with petrol karts anymore.
However, man... one thing I can't say: high-end wheel experience - bad racing experience. No electric kart can beat a gas kart. However, it's good to see different approaches to make it more attractive.
This is why I always prefer outdoor tracks. In fact, Electroheads, led by Rob Smedley has already enhanced outdoor e-karting racing by trialling at Whilton Mill back in 2020. Of course, F1 Drive will be expensive due to upkeep and franchise name, but I think its time tracks like Buckmore, Whilton Mill and other tracks that rake in the income start to consider a more sustainable approach, especially in the next 10 years.
I went recently to see if it was any good, would not go back! Huge delay to our race due to a lady crashing and crying her eyes out. Wasn't assigned a kart and the trackside staff made me go to race control to fix it for them. Then my kart was super slow during quali (15 secs off the pace), I stopped to let a marshal know and it wouldn't start again. Then halfway through the race my new kart was slowing down at a few points on the track leading to me tumbling down the order and getting bumped in the butt constantly as the other drivers weren't expecting anyone to slow in those spots! Was a mess of a day overall and the staff seemed more interested in flirting with each other than dealing with customers. All that for the most expensive kart session I've tried. I got maybe 10 mins of clean running at full power. Still, the start of the race was fun as I don't usually do standing starts (until someone spun on turn 3 of course and the yellows came out). The thing I noticed with the yellows is that some karts took longer to register yellows than others. But those same karts would then take longer to register it going green again, meaning it was total luck if this staggered slowdown helped or hindered them, depending where they were on track.
I have been there once and got lap of the year with a lap time around 43.133 but overall it’s a good bit of fun (I have done outdoor racing for 8 years going on 9)
£70 only gets you the reduced speed version. The elite session is £85! Crazy prices. It's cheaper to do a 40 min outdoor karting race and a lot more fun
Thank you! 😄 I wish I had some more full green flag racing at the end to try and beat my time. My fastest was a 45.31 but I think there was at least a second for me to gain on that.
i got ptsd from hearing yellow flag in this video DAMN. just as you would line up for overtakes as well, jesus also: the desperate DRS button pressing lmao
Thank you! Your track guide helped quite a lot. Just wish I had more full green laps at the end to try and beat my time. Your time was insane though! You smashed Hulkenberg's and were still the all time fastest when I went. For the camera, I use the go pro hero 12. Recorded at 4k60. I had to bump up the ISO though as it was quite dark inside so it added some grain to the video. When karting outdoors where there is a lot more light, I like to use 4k30 with a shutter speed of around 1/96 to give some motion blur and add to the sense of speed. Normally need to use an ND filter though so to not over expose the shot.
@@Rahullll Awesome! I didn't know Hulkenberg drove the track but it's nice to know there's been some F1 drivers there now. Btw, did you have to ask permission to use your GoPro? I recorded my session using a CAMBOX but would have loved to use my GoPro for better quality!
@@kartingtips they were saying that he was there on the Saturday I think. Got a 44 second lap I believe. I just had the go pro on my helmet and no one said anything. Thinking about it, I didn't actually check if I needed permission to record.
I get that the skill level is usually very low in rental karts but its insane to me how much people crash, its so so hard to crash in a rental kart 💀 half the time is usually spent with yellow flags in all indoor
The constant yellow flags is very common for indoor rentals and make the experience pretty boring. It's the main reason I don't do indoor any more other than rare situations like this where there's a cool new track to try.
Hold on. Isn’t it supposed to be a 15min session? From start to finish, that was only 11m 44s! Did you cut anything out of the video or was the race really 3mins shorter? Because that’s like a fifth of the race cut and for the money, that’s a liberty!
That was a slow reaction to the lights however, not your fault because they've put P1 on the outside of the grid which means every one can dive bomb you into the first corner. That's well stupid!
I dont know if its because of the camera fov or the framerate but it kinda seemed not that fast to be honest, i would like to try it but im too far away from it
It's the shutter speed for a sense of speed. I normally go for around 1/96 with 24fps to get some nice motion blur and sense of speed. As it was quite dark on here, I upped the ISO and set the shutter speed to auto. This makes each frame sharper and so the sense of speed is reduced. The karts themselves aren't that fast as well but no less than other indoor tracks. They're electric biz karts, commonly found at other indoor tracks. The elite session runs them at speed 4 with other sessions at 3 or below.
To be fair, the skill level was alright. Yeh there was some dodgy racing etiquette but that's always expected in open sessions. Overall it was a good set of drivers
No though that's all part of the reason you go here. It is trying to build an F1 atmosphere. If you want an experience that is more focused on the karting, an open race at one of the many outdoor tracks would be money better spent
@@Rahullll I meant as in how heavy the steering is, because normal karts steering gets heavy after a long session. But I suppose 15 mins ain't that long 🤣
The website says that you are not allowed to use filming equipment on your helmet. You will have to speak with the staff there to see if you can get permission to record.
There is a drs button that gives your kart a little boost in dedicated zones. It's not a real drs and there are no moving parts changing the aero of the kart. You use the drs on the two drs straights any time during the quali and when you're 1 second behind the kart in front during the race.
I used my own racing suit as I know it fits exactly as I want compared to rental suits which never seem to be right for me. You are allowed to wear your own suit at pretty much all rental karting venues in the UK as long as they meet the track's specification. Mine is a Sparco karting suit which is suitable for all rental karting.
Jeez, electric karts, with fake engine noise?! No thanks! TBH the circuit itself looks fairly interesting, but as for the karts & WTF is that "DRS"?! Nope, will definitely stick to proper karts & motors thanks!
I don't think it's really their fault. The track had an auto slowdown system for yellow flags so when there is one, you can keep your pedal fully pressed and your kart will slow to a yellow flag pace. It was just that for some kart, this system seems to be delayed so they would be able to carry a lot more speed during a yellow flag.
I wonder what the owners of REAL karting tracks will say when they see this video. In my humble opinion, the circuit and karts are an absolute piece of shit
