This review features the F1 Mainframe backpack by ‪@Eberlestock‬. This frame pack can be customized for any hunt or outdoor activity. The F1 Mainframe is the starting point of a modular backpack system. This pack can be outfitted for day hunts with a pair of Batwing pouches or multi-day excursions with the Vapor series bags. Accessories include rifle scabbards, pistol holsters, dry bags, compression panels and more! The options are endless. The F1 Mainframe might just be the most versatile pack ever.

I don't think I could go on multi day hunts anymore without my mainframe. I love this pack and the option to configure it multiple ways.

I love my mainframe and all the junk I’ve bought for it and been using it for about 3 years. My biggest complaint is I wish they had more shoulder padding. When you are day packing they are fine, when you are packing out meat they are the worst in my opinion. I found that I only use it to bring the first load out and I switch to my alps to finish the pack out job when I get back to the truck.

Hey Joseph, I upgraded to the taller mainframe to create shoulder lift. This alleviated any pressure that I had on my shoulders and transferred it to my hips.

They sell a thick padded version of the shoulder harness, check that out. Either way, if the bulk of the weight is on your shoulders then either your pack isn't set up correctly or it simply isn't the right pack for your body type. The harness is for stabilization purposes only - all the weight should be on your pelvis.

Will the bolt action scabbard fit a rifle with a bipod attached?

I think it's funny that eberlestock has a bino harness, yet all I saw was AGC bino harness. I love mine, wouldn't trade it for anything else.

New to external packs and just beginning to shop around for future hunts. Is there any reason I can't use a different brand frame and bag if they are similarly sized?

Hey Josh, good question! While it is possible to potentially mix and match pack setups from different companies, it is best to stick with one brand's system. These systems are developed intentionally to work efficiently and help you get the most effective pack system for your specific uses. Eberlestock is the original pack developer of modularity and because of that, they are good at it.

I am fully invested in the Hill People Gear pack system. If I were to start from scratch now I’d go Eberlestock. This is the best hunting/bug out/survival/whatever pack system out there. The zippers make all of the difference.

The zipper system is pretty cool, makes for a LOT of options!

The HPG harness and Prairie belt are vastly superior to their Eberlestock counterparts.

@@khomatech6428Does HPG make anything with a solid frame though?

Yes, the Decker. They're currently testing a tall version too.@@cavscout678

It works great for vertically challenged people as well. Brian Barney, on our team is 5 ft 7 in and it works great for him.

I really want to understand the psychology of people who enjoy killing animals... It's like we're a different species or something. Anyway, I'm interested in this pack for transporting boxes and other awkward items on my back. The metal platform is the key feature I'm interested in, but this pack is too expensive to justify that use-case.

No joy in killing. Great joy in the time, expense, work it takes to harvest a beautiful animal to eat & honor his life
