Video showing the installation and fitment of PPE's deep aluminum transmission pan part number 328053100 on my 2018 F150 4x4 5.0 with the 10R80 transmission. The pan is made from cast aluminum, holds 2qts more fluid than stock, and has a drain plug. I couldn't find any videos showing if this pan would actually fit my truck, so I made this video showing my results. If this video helped you out, please give me a thumbs up. Here is the link to the pan www.stage3motorsports.com/328...

What were the follow on temperature results compared to the previous cover and the additional fluid?

Awesome video. I have this exact pan I’m going to be putting on my 2017 3.5 ecoboost tomorrow. I got new filter, gasket and seals too along with ten quarts of motorcraft ULV (I wanted to make sure I have more than enough). I have almost 70k on the factory filter and fluid so it’s definitely overdue but I don’t do much towing and even when I do it’s fairly light. My temps generally stay under 190 even in the summer. I just didn’t want to do this job and throw a crappy plastic pan back on.

I just got my PPE Transmission Pan in today for my Roush F150 5.0L. I’m hoping it lowers the temps. Mine now gets up to 210 degrees on the highway, not hauling anything, with 55K miles on the truck. That seems a little too hot to me for not hauling anything. It does have the Oz Omega X tune on it, though.

Sorry I have been absolutely buried. Quick update, I pull up hill often in NC, I did see the temp climb as high as 212F, but only temporarily. It would start to drop and head back down to 204-206F. I had times where it stated at 196-198F. Definitely an improvement from the original constant 208-210F before the swap.

Hey Tripp! On the topic of cooling and T-Stats for the EcoBoost and Coyote F-150's. Try the Motorcraft RT1258 thermostat, its the OEM thermostat for the new Explorer ST's. Same fit form and function but 10-15 degrees cooler. Will drop your trans temp by 10deg as well. Stock Motorcraft is RT1251 for the record. Use Felpro O-Ring 35991and the new Motorcraft Yellow Coolant VC-13-G. I have and 18 F-150 and a 22 Explorer ST. Noticed the ST runs at a constant coolant temp of 180, purchased an the RT1258 and installed in my F150 and its runs 185-190 now with AC on as that causes the shutters to stay open. Trans stays under 180. I also have a PPE Pan but the regular capacity not the deep one. The pan is good for quicker recovery from higher temp but does not lower the temps more than 1 or 2 degrees by itself. I use a Scan Gauge II in my ST and a Banks Data Monster in my F-150. I also have a Banks Tune for the F-150 + CVFab intercooler. Fun stuff!

Thanks for the info, I will definitely take a look at it. You're absolutely correct. The transmission pan won't make the transimission run any cooler. It just bleeds off heat quicker. I recently swapped out the thermostat in the race car to an 80C, which kept it at a steady 180F all weekend. No check engine lights from the cooler temps? I am running a Five Star tune.

Says I purchased 12. I'm definitely sure I didn't use them all. I had the truck in the air so I could move the transmission through all gears.

I can't see temps being any different by simply changing out the pan...even if you have capacity for more ATF. I think what's ultimately going to affect your temps is the cooler. Full-Race has a front-mounted transmission cooler available, but running lines from the transmission to the front sounds like a pain in the ass.
@trippsspeedshop6848
@trippsspeedshop6848 2 года назад
I make heat sinks for military and aerospace computers. The aluminum fins are amazing at drawing out heat. Sure, the truck has a small factory radiator with a thermostat, so the pan only does so much. But it bleeds heat out of that pan when the transmission is working it's hardest, cools it down quicker. If It gives me a longer service life and makes maintenance easier, it's a win.

You said your temps were about 210 while towing? Those seem like normal numbers even without towing. Any improvements at all?

This should work with a 10r80 mustang right ?
@trippsspeedshop6848
@trippsspeedshop6848 2 года назад
It should definitely fit, I would make sure you have the ground clearance for the deeper pan. The standard size would be no problem.
@josephbargo5024
@josephbargo5024 Год назад
There are more productive ways to fix cooling for the mustang. Ideally moving trans cooler from in front of the rad is ideal. The engine will target 212 (temp fan turns on) so the other fluids will gravitate to that temp. The extra trans fluid will just make temp changes happen slower.

How hot is too hot for transmission?
@trippsspeedshop6848
@trippsspeedshop6848 2 года назад
Heat kills transmissions in general. The Ford dash temperature maxes out at 215F. The new pan comes with the ability to add an external gauge if you want to know what it really climbs to.
@josephbargo5024
@josephbargo5024 Год назад
@@trippsspeedshop6848the mustang 10r80 temp gauge maxes out at 300. Warning (yellow) is like 250-260. Hot (red) is above that. Weird that it’s so different. Unless you modify the trans internals, it tries to run around 200. The only way to get better cooling is installing a better cooler or moving it. The volume of trans fluid will just buffer temp fluctuations but it will take longer to warm up AND COOL.

Agreed, but the transmission doesn't stay at 210-212F the majority of the trip anymore, it rides around 204F.
