Not only do they let the product speak for itself, but they also offered a free upgrade for people (myself included) who have recently purchased Timeless 2 (alone or in a bundle). Can't say enough about how great a move that is as a company in terms of hospitality and customer care. Fabfilter all the way!
Fabfilter plugins are so well designed that when somebody starting out asks what plugins should they buy first, I say Fabfilter. For one main reason: they make learning what you’re doing really intuitive. It’s so easy to tweak and dial in and get good visual feedback for what you’re doing to the audio. That’s invaluable from a learning aspect as well as a workflow aspect. Sound quality is most important, but ease of use and a coherent visual language help you get better results and save time.. and for pros time is money
Just starting out? These plugins are GREAT, though I never liked Timeless too much, hated the mirror symmetry of the left side of the plug, the timing/feedback/crossover section of TImeless 2... and back then, if herbal remedies were being used, it'd actually cave in my skull, not enjoyable, and I noticed recently Dan makes the same complaint about the UI of Brainworx's Shadow Hills comp... I agree with Dan. But they are GREAT plugins, honestly, they are my benchmark, any other plugin has to compare against Fab Filter. They are "PRO" level, like you can go from newb to "pro" with this same set of plugins. BUT! The price, man, they are EXPENSIVE!!!1! I don't know if they are the right choice for someone just getting started out. I mean, if you've just built your production PC for $1,500, then OS, DAW, Controller, decent quality Studio Monitors, Cabling, Power Conditioning... NOW you have to spend over a $GRAND on your basic mixing plugins... I don't know, man... I'd recommend starting out with your DAW's included plugins if you're just starting out. I really would. But I realize that I'm from a certain socioeconomic segment of society, as well as segment of ethic/morality... I forget, but there are other segments, segments where you can be just starting out, and ask Momz or Dadz for $10,000 to play around with making electronic music and it is no thing. There are a LOT of people in this situation, in which case, sure, go for it. And this segment may not be troubled with such excess while up to 50,000 children die EACH DAY from starvation and dehydration. I mean, what's that a week... 350,000 children dead, and in a month... 1,400,000 dead children... and in a year, you have two holocausts. And in a decade, twenty holocausts of human potential, human life... how many Einsteins, Shakespears, Dan Worells lost to the dirt? Hard to value plugin quality against this needless, artificially induced human atrocity. But that is just me, and my issues. Spend away.
I can confirm that this is the ultimate delay plugin. I've used Timeless 2 for a very long time, with the UI being as "clunky" as it was, modulation was slightly more difficult to achieve, but the old one could achieve almost any type of delay imaginable. With these new features, they not only simplify the process, but offer an entire new realm of godlike delay possibilities. If any of you lovely Timeless 3 users haven't pampered in the presets, I highly recommend doing so. It opens your eyes to the capabilities of this amazing delay plugin. Happy echoing! 🙂
The UI is great, of course, but nobody is mentioning that the sound is kinda “chintzy” and digital. Big fan of other FabFilter plugins, but undecided about this one. If they have a fee demo I’ll give it a try.
How quickly once you started touching the EQ you got a masterpiece level sound was crazy. This is an immediate buy from me, fabfilter has outdone themselves again.
FabFilter are to audio what Apple used to be to computing. They come up with things you absolutely "must have" before you even knew you wanted them. This does in seconds what it used to take 5 plugins and a LOT of time to do. Amazing.
Yeah you'll need that better job haha ☺️ They cost so much one could almost not buy like 5-10 plugins and get a real hardware device. Or a guitar pedal for the price of one plugin
The Timeless 2 was quite hard to use but this one looks easy and sounds amazing ! Some of the parameters will definitely replace a chain of like four plugins including the delay on my aux tracks. Fabfilter nailed it again. 👌🏼
Dude, the two greens sliders on the bottom are macros. They are a modulators you can tie to multiple parameters, name them whatever, delete them, add more of them, etc., and they are preset-specific. Also, you can automate them. Saturn 2 works the same way.
wow, thats the first plugin you make a video about where i think at every single knob "omg that sounds so cool i need to have that in my own productions"
Another option is Valhalla Delay. It's actually very nice, has a lot of options, different styles (not just vintage), it's intuitive and quick to use...love it.
Idk. I think Echoboy & H Delay held down the market for the longest. Valhalla was a good addition but this addition from FabFilter.... really killing the game. Especially with the visual satisfaction this plugin creates.
Those two are my go to delays as well, but some of the demos of Timeless 3 are really pushing me to grab it. I think it has its own character and would be a really useful additional tool for more sound design-y delays. There is a demo on RU-vid of someone playing an alto flute track through it that sounds absolutely incredible.
Timeless 2 was by far the best delay plugin I've ever used, and even sometimes a better chorus/stereo modulation plug than most of my others. Now that this is out, I think FF has a corner on both the EQ and delay markets for digital.
Great review (or look). Great plugin ! Great company !! At 9:53 as you said “woah” a plane started to fly over my house... for a split second I thought THAT was the delay ! 😊😊😊😊
I instantly bought the upgrade for 38€ (absolute nobrainer) and its incredible. Not only for mixing but also as a creative effect, so versatile. You can get some insane FX sounds out of this one
Fab really knows what is useful and bar none the best UI in the industry. I love/d the old Timeless and this looks like a solid evolution forward.... well played :)
"vintage sounding delay" = some waveshaper in the feedback-loop to avoid it breaking out massively but still. this thing is freaking awesome! oh and since you were asking yourself: the randomness triggers your ears nicely because that's essentially a vibrato, and in this context with the feedback and all these taps it can even be a chorus
Definitely check out Echo Boy! It's a bit older, so it doesn't have as many features, but the features it does have are insane! So many different delay types (if you're interested in different delay modes, check out Primal Tap's Criss-Cross mode - it's a modified Ping Pong) and analog emulations! They also have a basic Low/High cut, but they have a 3 band EQ for the decay - effecting the EQ as the delay goes on (really useful trick is to use this to add movement to your delays). SoundToys have the original best creative mixing plugins.
@@jonztube Soundtoys were innovative for their time and still have plugins that are hard to beat. Their student discount makes them easy to afford for the beginner.
Great review, I'm hooked. You missed one small bit with the LoFi... you just ease it in about 10% and you get a great LoFi delay. You hit it for about 200ms then cranked it. That's not a crankable effect, lol! No worries, As usual you thoroughly run up these things which is a great help to us out here.
Fabfilter EQ, Comp+ great, Timeless verb plus effects ok for synths....not a main delay on a bus channel., or at least not with the additional effects lol
I LOVE this channel. Quality sound is one of my obsessions, but I don’t have the knowledge of equipment or language. -Example: I want to know what it means when I say “the speaker makes the song sound like it’s playing through a tin can” and what to do when I say that it needs a “warmer, full sound”
for me delay has been Replica xt and valhalla Delay but this changes everything timeless 2 was never so appealing its was mehh but this mind blowing 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I don't know whether I really need this at all - after all, Logic's Delay Designer does a lot of really neat and similar stuff. But then - I know that I really want it! Especially after this 'tip of the iceberg' review in which Wytse grabs me by my short and curlies and fill my mind with desire. Or is it FabFilter that's doing that?
Hmmmmm. This sounds beautiful. I love delays and have way too many delay plugins. My latest favorite with a lot of character is the Valhalla delay. It has so many algorithms and such warmth and color. Im now going to have to download this demo and play with it. Damnit. Trying to not spend more money on plugins for a while but a few things have dropped like this which sound amazing.
I know you mostly do plugins on snake oil.. But please do the Bliack Lion Audio Revolution 2x2. You will be blown away! Traded in my Apollo happily for one. Rivals my Lynx. Tell them 43Audio Sent ya over :p
I have sooooo many delays I declared a moratorium. I've only scratched the surface of Melda MTurboDelay but it seems capable of more delay effects than I can imagine. Love to get your take on that.
