pako tako Hi there. Most parrots who are not socialized properly have phobic tendencies. What do you do to encourage a bond/trust with your bird? Do you know the parrots gender? Was he or she hand raised and hand fed? How old is the bird? What training do you currently do? Do you force the bird to do what you want, and now what it wants? Many questions must be answered to give you a proper answer. However I will give you some information on IRN's. Indian Ringnecks can be a harder bird species to tame as naturally they are very independent. In most cases female IRN's are harder to tame versus the Males (personal experience not statistically). They are not a species known for cuddling such as Cockatoos, Green Cheek conures, etc. There is no easy way to make the bird less phobic/scared without socialization, training, bonding, and spending lots of time around the bird. I only encourage positive reinforcement training I do not condone the use of forceful and negative training as that will make your bird go backwards in his or her progress which is not what you want. If you're not doing any training or socialization I highly recommend you must start to do so. Socialization isn't just 'people' properly socializing the bird with objects, food, and people, gets you an all around non-phobic bird (in most cases). You also need to earn your birds trust, it's not like owning a puppy where you feed it and that puppy automatically loves you and becomes loyal. Birds are highly intelligent creatures who remember things such as an abusive home. You will need to spend many hours just with your bird, talking to it, feeding it small treats out of your hand to get the bird to understand your hands will not harm or hurt him/her in anyway. Treats can be anything from fresh fruits/veggies, their pellets, or a few seeds/nuts. No sunflower seeds, they are like feeding your bird a big mac, it has no nutritional value. My advice is spending everyday for hours sitting by the cage, with food in your hand, progress will be made, doesn't mean right away so you must be patient. If the bird bites you do NOT pull away, it shows fear and the birds will feed off of that. Once some progress is made you can try and start target training, there are many videos here on RU-vid that will show you how. You will need a dog training clicker, I use a chop stick as my target device, and a treat the bird likes and will work for. May take a few times to figure it out so again be patient.

Fabios FamJam Flock i have my bird next to my desk and i dont force it to go out or go in the cage. the problem is that the bird is slightly scared of my hand but it is enjoying my company.i have a tame Cockatoo and they arent aggressive to each other. if you want i can upload a video of the bird and i would be grateful if you can give me tips based on the video. ps:sorry for the grammar in not english.

rwseemore1 Fabio is a boy. go research Indian ringnecks and how their rings develop. It can take up to 4 years for a males ring to develop that is why we got the boys DNA sexed to know their gender. Hope you learned something today and in the future don’t make the same mistakes on someone else’s posts. Also if you choose not to believe me for whatever reason, watch our newest videos both ringnecks have their black rings. 👌🏼

@@AbaddonHades thNks. For letting me know, from what i read I thought it was a girl, very light break and not a dark colored ring. You have a beautiful bird and a nice voice e. We are e expecting our ringneck in a few weeks so I guess we will have to do DNA testing! I started with a harden, bronze wing pionus, eclectic, quaker parrot, my favorite and a hahns mccaw when in florida. Had a screened pool area and they were to fly. They were great each had their own personality. Thanks for responding.

rwseemore1 definitely do DNA test or watch their behaviour. Females mature faster and will flap their wings with their chest down, while males have the “heart wings” they will stand tall and bow their wings out. It’s one way people sex their birds before the ring appears. However sometimes the opposite sex will learn that behaviour from our birds haha so a male might do a female behaviour or vis versa 😅 good luck! Ringnecks are amazing but a hard species they can be so moody and finicky! Make sure you socialize them very well with people, everyday objects and food! They can become very picky if not given multiple options of food from a baby. I also highly recommend Harrison pellets over other brands. We used to feed roudybush but it’s a little bit more oily than the Harrison’s.

@@AbaddonHades thank you so much for the info, good grief, sounds like gender confused birds too! Ha ha, I've missed birds and their antics. When I jr high I had a parakeet, breed her and got 3 beautiful babies. Would leave the cage open and she would wait until moved in the morning,then fly over pull my hair nuzzle my ear and chirp until I got up then would go in the shower and not leave until I put her up. She never did talk. You have a beautiful bird, I especially like hearing her say what are you doing. My Jardine was a talker. We used to tell our dog to get the squirrel and he would race out of the house looking. One day Jasper was sitting on my shoulder and as the dog walked by he cocker his head and said get the squirrel as clear as day. The dog ran out of the house looking for the squirrel. First time the bird ever talked. From then on we couldn't keep him quiet. Thanks for your info. Thanks, Bob
