Fabric & Pattern Haul 

Whilst most of your fabrics are not to my taste, I adore watching your eyes light up in glee when you show them off. Forget your age (so old lol) and continue to be the age you feel, even if it is only preteen at times. My husband is, cough, cough, and is often only eight, and I adore him for it, so don't change, if you want extra holes for earrings go for it. ( I give you permission lol)

Perhaps take a look at the Cozi Jacket from Pattern Scout -- she shows a sample sewn in a Sherpa fabric. It is quite cropped in the pics, but I'm sure you could add to the length. Lots of fun new purchases! ❤

Ohooo - that emerald green coating fabric! You’re going to LOVE the Pietra Pants. I’ve made at least 40+ pairs of pants and shorts since I bought that pattern. (20 + of them were in a larger size). Seriously though - you’ll love making them and wearing them. The pocket is genius. Go for it!

Hi, Ruan! Trousers terrify me, too.I have the Pietra Pants pattern also, but haven't make it yet. My extremely flat derrière, big belly, and thin legs make them difficult to fit. I've declared (to no one but myself and some of my virtual sewing friends who don't even know they're my friends) this my 'Year of Trousers" with the hope that by the end of the year I'll have at least one pattern figured out to make repeatedly. I hope you get your slip dress made for your holidays. That fabric is BEAUTIFUL! X

Never too old for more piercings or tattoos! I’m 52 and have recently got 2 more piercings in each ear and my cartilage pierced on one so I now have 9 spaces for earrings 😂 I’m also planning the next tattoo. Loved the sequin sleeves jumper! I may have to copy that idea.

For my 50th birthday, I got my ears pierced again, because they'd closed up, and I figured it was well past time to fix that. Life is too damn short not to do the things you want to do. You've got a couple of us oldies here cheering you on. 😉 Those earrings are so cute; I'll have to check out her shop. Really like all your fabrics, but I looove the sequin fabric. Gorgeous colors in that.

I'm in my 70's and wear 2 earrings in each ear. I love the sparkle! That black sequin top is giving me ideas!❤

Love your choices … I used a similar metallic jersey for a festive top and I made a fibre mood soroya top to wear over a cami ( took around 1.5 m ) … the house is still twinkling 😂. The idea of a sequin sleeved top is great and I might “ borrow “ this one . I think Mimi g made a spectacular emerald green coat which is lush ! The pietra is a great pattern, I’ve made it up in various versions half a dozen times including using the pattern hacks to reduce/ remove the elastic and pop in a zip. The pattern comes together really fast and is comfortable to wear so I’ll be def making it again . Thankyou for your vlogs always a good watch

I 💜 the pietra pants! Made 3 pairs of shorts. Great fit, no alterations. Shorts have separate pattern pieces to trousers but well worth doing first! Love the flat front and cool pockets!

Hi Ruan, be careful when sizing down the Nicks dress as you may find the shoulders too tight if you go too small. I have broad shoulders and used the correct size yoke (10) for my measurements BUT used the size 4 back and front so that there was less ease across the gathers, and it worked perfectly. Used the size 10 sleeve as I also normally need to add bicep width, but took some of the width out on the way down to the wrist. Very happy with the decisions I made on the sizing.

I got my first tattoo at 50, so you are never too old 😊 get those ears pierced 😅 x I have the pietra pants and they were a relatively easy make, but I made them way too big (it was early on in my sewing journey) just research the size before making. I will do them again and will look closer at the size I will be making too 😊

You may wish to look at pound fabrics, they have a knit fabric in tiger stripes, 3 colours @3.95 pm, and they have a Sherpa fleece in leopard print in brown or grey. Thought of you when I saw them.

I enjoy a good splurge! Love the earrings and the buttons are fabulous. I just made the Nicks blouse and I definitely needed to size down two sizes! I also have the Pietra pants pattern. I am planning on making the shorts first too. I love the idea of the black sweater with the sequin arms. Look at you being all organized for next Christmas.😄❤

The second hole I pierced myself at age 15. Is still there after not using it for 31 years. I am 53 now. I put an earring in a few weeks ago. Yours still might be there. I also got my first tattoo at 45. After I had my 13 baby!

Lovely earrings! My favorite are the dangly flowers. So pretty 😊. Your fabrics are so you. All sparkly and fun 🤩. I like paper patterns and I do trace mine so I can reuse them. I do have PDF patterns but I don’t like printing them out. They use a lot of ink and paper. There are no print store near me that print up sewing patterns. I’m sewing the Pietra shorts and the Cielo top. I’m excited because they are my first sewing projects in a long time. The pockets on the Pietra are a little confusing. Michelle from the Sewing Bunny has a really good sew along on the Pietra pants. Yep, I have to declutter my patterns and fabrics and yarn and and and 😂. How did I get all this stuff 🤦! I’m not buying any fabric for now. I have a good stash and have been making loads from it. I just delete the fabric shop e mails. Looking through my stash I realise I have so many nice fabrics it makes me realise I don’t need any more for probably the rest of the year. Keep looking through your stash when tempted. The colours of the sequin fabric and the sherpa look so good on you x

Pietra was the 1st pair I made as a beginner, I made my recommended size for my measurements and found them big in the waist, just tightened the elastic and np 👍 drafted for 5ft 6" so also had to add 4" as I'm 5ft 10 ❤❤

Have a look at the ClefCoat from Love Notions. I'm just about finished it. Just need to install the zipper that I don't have in my stash. And I'm making a vest version out of a pre quilted fabric. But so far I'm liking it and looking to finishing it up this week. Going to the fabric store for JUST notions is always fraught with DANGER so I've been putting it off. ❤

Beautiful haul, Ruan. Love your pattern choices. Re jacket McCalls has a lovely jacket pattern perfect for Sherpa. I don't remember the number from top of my head. I will dm you number. For your faux leather, get the leather needles and Teflon foot. It makes sewing it easier.

Ooh. Loved this! Great to see what you got in the sales. Do you think the fleece fabric is too thick for the Arlo track jacket? I think Chelsea from Friday Pattern company made one in a fleece once. Looked great. :)

The butterflies fabric will look great with the black butterfly ear rings Did you realise it was butterflies?😁I like your purchases! I’m going to look at the earrings as really like the selection you had. I have purchased patterns twice as rarely trace such as the Southbank, the Bettine ( which I no longer make) but I’m trying to make the effort to trace new ones as they are so expensive. I don’t think it’s mean to say that. When I first started sewing as a teen ager I was very careful when buying patterns. It’s only since I’ve been on Instagram in recent years and seduced by the hype that I’ve bought too many 😳I’m intending to destash a lot that I’ll never get round to. I don’t intend to buy fabric then went into JL and bought 3 jerseys that were reduced to £4.50 a metre so got them as I always find the ones I have (usually 2 metres )are not enough. So I bought 3 metres of each! It was silly as my sewing room is over full. I like your sweatshirt and have its twin in the hacked linden. I don’t find it warm enough so wear a base layer under. I love this fabric 😊

Oooh.. the pietra pants! I’ve got 6 of the narrow legs in a variety of colours, and only 1 of the wide leg. So far. The wide leg is smart as it is longer. As a long legged girl, add length to the leg of the narrow leg above the knee and below rather than just below. The pockets on these pants are amazing!
