Thanks for the Cub videos, Paul! My cub has been on the road now for 8 months. I am always waging war against oil leaks- oil just doesn’t like staying inside the Tiger Cub engine, obviously! One annoying source is the outer timing cover; from there it leaks onto the oil lines and drips from the oil line union nut. And I don’t think the Cub engine breathes well, so that exacerbates the leaks when the engine is rinning. I don’t get a lot of leaks when it’s not running. After a ride, I’ve just got used to wiping the engine clean. I’m at a stage now where the leaks are not gone, but tolerable. Regards, Al

Thanks Paul & Mitch! What a great episode! Your brackets and braces are truly wonderful pieces of art. About the metal debris on the lathe... since it is a cutting tool, think about cutting yourself some (well-deserved) SLACK! I was trying to remember who it was that put a tap into a lathe or mill chuck to get absolute perpendicularity. Dang! it WAS you! How about using a drill press following that same idea. Now your hole drilling/tapping turned out perfectly just by eye, it might be easier with the drill press. That oil drip-drip-drip is annoying, but I have every confidence that you'll find that source and fix it. You have skills! Looking forward to the next one.

After sanding mating surfaces on a flat surface with sandpaper glued to it, I used contact glue to both sides of the mating surfaces and gaskets made from a grocery store brown paper sack. My bsa never leaked from those joints buy the primary oil drip that lubricated the final drive chain would drip on the ground until I made a drip adjustment screw.

It was really an unfair comparison because Mr. Millyard’s hack saw is, like the hammer of Thor or King Arthur’s Excalibur, an implement of almost legendary status. Really happy to see these regular uploads Paul, must mean you're feeling better. Always such a pleasure to watch you work, always coming up with on the fly solutions and always working so precise. Curious how come you didn't machine a flat spot on the "shelf" for the battery to help it sit more stable? I'll put everything I have that Mitch had ZERO film with him, but lots of Flash 😛Will share a little funny - when you were holding the thicker piece of alu, it was upside down and I read "1909" and had never heard of that before, so went searching to see it's properties and why you would be using it, then came back and watched further, you held it right side up and then, 6061, made a lot more sense 😆

I'm not a machinist and certainly haven't memorised lists of such numbers, so when it comes to tapping holes, I just use any old drill 0.5mm smaller than the tap and hope for the best. So far so good! (I'm never tapping new holes into anything of significance, and my taps were never of any significant quality). As for that switch you used... that other nut on there is just to space it right when mounting to sheet metal panels. Remove it and it'll get you a few more threads. No milling required. :D

Nice work . That is one heavy looking battery mount though ? I would imagine that the battery will be removed for charging , since you decided to run without a generator , or dyno . Is that why it is held with plastic wire straps ? That was a good shout for Allen Millyard too ; his Kawasaki V12 2600cc and Dodge Viper bikes are especially awesome ! He would probably make a small Triumph Trident engine for your Cub frame , but I expect it would have three times the oil leak . Lol . No , joking apart , I think you will be striping the right side engine case , but that aught to be easier than welding the oil tank surely . Best luck

I will share here a thing that I learn from a old guy: To find what is the hole to tapp for a metric screw... you just multiply the metric size of the screw with 8 and divide by 10. Basicaly, for M6 is 6x8= 48... divide by 10 is 4.8. It works up to M10 screwes. Nice way... right?

This came just in a nick of time! Paul, I have the C15 in my garage and I am now planning what I am going to do with it. Is it possible to send me couple pics of your Tiger Cub? And don't worry - no matter how well you rebuild them, they still leak 🇬🇧

What model and year of C15 do you have?
@markotuomas672
@markotuomas672 Год назад
@@k4106dt It is 1966 C15 Sportsman by the engine numbers, not in original condition. The idea was to build it into a greenlaner/ street scrambler style.

@@markotuomas672 I have a 1965 C15F and am thinking of doing the same thing as you. Have you seen Michael Waller's videos of his conversion of a C15 Star to a C15T copy?

@@k4106dt Great! Yes, I have been watching them constantly and they are big help on this project of mine. Where do live? I live in northern parts of Finland. Would be nice be in touch with fellow C15 builder.

@@markotuomas672 I am in Northern California USA. I bought my 99 percent complete 1965 C15 twenty years ago. The seller included another '65 C15 that someone partially converted into a "T". It has a bolt on rear sprocket and an exhaust valve lifter. It has the roadster fuel tank and forks though.

I am confident the zip ties are a joke. I believe a number of you have been had by Mr. Brodie's sense of humour.

Bob, I plan to make an alloy cover to hide all those zip ties. That's no joke! Believe me. :)

@@paulbrodie I never doubted it for a second. Wait ? what ? The zip ties are just going to be hidden ? That's something I would do.

In that moment, when you soldered the part, i thought: This has to be nickel plated on the Tiger Cub.
@paulbrodie

We both had the same thought.. That means that it really has to be... Thanks for watching :)

@@paulbrodie Of course, it's still a question of whether this fits with other chrome-plated parts on the bike In my opinion, the Tiger Cub comes from a time when nickel plating was no longer used

@paulbrodie Год назад
@@besenwieslersepp1011 Yes, but I did send out a batch of Cub parts for nickel plating, so it would fit right in with those parts....

Do you think the point loading from the round lower battery support may cause the case to eventually crack? Would a rubber faced flat plater be better? I always enjoy your vids, Thanks.

I will hold the battery on with 2 sided tape, so there will not be huge pressure on the bottom of the battery... Thanks for liking our videos :)
