This is y i love this channel al and woody plus all there friends they are so humble and genuine and dont pretend they no it all and are the best. And its wicked sick car content for us aussies
This was a classic skid factory episode. Good technical discussion, long detailed montage showing the end product slowly materializing into a completed state, and some of my favorite music. When you hear that first beat starting, you know it's about to go down. Great episode lads
A turbo overspeeds behind a restrictor for the same reason that a throttle body before the turbo inlet reduces "lag" and a vacuum cleaner revs up when you block the hose. This seems like the perfect place to experiment with a throttle-before-turbo setup and Haltech DBW logic to defeat some of the downside of the restrictor, if you're keen.
As soon as I saw that melon I knew you had Matt on! Glad to see his work get a spotlight - he does good stuff. As a fabricator who regularly builds manifolds it was neat to get a look at how someone else does it
Best way to learn how to weld is to start welding. I bit the bullet and bought both a MIG and later a TIG and "taught myself" (with a lot of RU-vid videos). I tried the practice runs on scrap but got bored after about 10 minutes so just started building things. I highly recommend just getting a welder and giving it a crack.
epic dad bit at the start ! As a new dad my self I can relate... its important the young'uns know you learn more from failure than you do from success, which makes the sucsess more valuable
Made a manifold a few weeks ago based off what I’ve seen on this channel. When I go to do it again I’ll be keen to either implement these ideas or potentially go off the shelf as suggested. I think the thing is that learning and having a go yourself is also enjoyable and you learn something as well. Even if it’s not the prettiest.
I built my first steam pipe turbo manifold a few years ago - purely because I was inspired by Al. I did know how to weld already, but never imagined doing such a project. I'd also be keen to step it up in the future, but honestly, my steam pipe manifold is well up to the job and I doubt it will fail. Sounds like we've both benefited from what we've watched here. 😊
I was wondering how it can be this challenging to build a manifold for a M42 in a E30 chassis- but yeah, the car is designed to be left hand drive. Can be a little bit tight with right hand drive
Looks amazing 👏 you boys must have seen the old toyota rally "work around" for turbo restriction? Now that was brilliance. Work around null and void with welded aluminium to the housing tho 🤣
You boys have brought us so much knowledge and new ways to do things we have all done for years, absolute pleasure to watch and very genuine down to earth boys!!!! Don’t stop what you s do we all Appreciate you s 🎉🍻
Made my mates exhaust from stainless based on your previous guidance and it’s holding up 😬👍🏼👍🏼 Edit: It did also take me a Saturday and a Sunday in my 3mx3m manspace 😂
It was Porky Pig that said "yibidi yibida, that's all folks", Elmer Fudd is the "hunter guy" and was famous for saying "Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits" and Bugs Bunny was famous for saying "eeehhh, what's up Doc". For reference, see the outtakes.
The first time you were able and I didn’t have a chance I just wanted you know I love and I love and I hope you’re having fun and I’m sorry that you had a rough day
I use a tea light for the purge, tea light on tape trampoline at top opening then a half coke bottle over the top with lid off. The tea light burns till the argon makes it through smothering the flame, and then I use the smoke from the candle to adjust purge flow. Not my idea, they did similar for the original F14 Tomcats titanium wing box. Welding in a vacuum chamber, they used incandescent light bulbs with the glass removed, when the lights started blowing, they had bad gas in the chamber. It was the 60's, they were smart.
It was both- Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd voices, IIRC. About the late '50s and '60s; two of my uncles were projectionists- ran the movie cameras at the theaters, so I got to do a lot of movies. The new "Merican term for that fancy schmancy sticking parts together is "fabricobbling". I don't knw why I put that in there, I just thought you should know.
Our S13 racecar has a G25 Garrett V band turbo, the V band clamp has split, the V band flange has cracked off the Manifold and after extra supports added to the Manifold the flange cracked off the Turbo it self
Slant 4's anything exhaust side = PITA! I remember my Dad fabricating a N/A equal length header exhaust on his Triumph slant 4 and how much of a nightmare that was -add a turbo, nightmare squared! Log headers FTW!
I think it’s fair to say that as long as the fixture is decent and it’s allowed to cool it will remain true. To be fair some benches and handrails potentially require more skill than this gear haha. Love your work
