Making endmill mounts for the unimat SL 1000. The endmill holders are for specific diameters, connect to the lathe/mill M12x1 threaded spindle directly and save a lot of space. I've been wanting to make them for quite some time.
Hope you find this useful.
Enjoy

They look great - simple and highly effective. I couldn't halp thinking better made out of steel? Why did you select brass?

Good question. The unimat is a small lathe and back then the motor was 180w. So steel would take forever. A step in brass is usually 0.15-0.1mm - in steel (even mild steel) it's 0.05mm. so making the same item in steel takes x3 times as much. The brass is holding well so far and if need be - I'll bore it and add a stainless sleeve.

I don't know how you edit your videos but you can reduce glare by reducing exposure, contrast and highlights

Yep. In the machine shop (sounds great, but it's a 5 square meter shop, fairly packed) the lights are either too bright or too dim, no matter how I try to set them up. Exposure - I'm using a go-pro type chinese action camera... not really an option :)

why not just mounting the endmills in the chuck?
@Smallathe
@Smallathe Год назад
Endmills are either carbide or hardened tool steel - the chuck jaws are hardened tool steel as well - and need to bind a soft steel (like the shank of a drill bit) to really grab and turn properly. Hard steel can't grab and hold a smooth hard steel - it will spin. These tools also save a LOT of Z height. Hope this answers the question :)
