Thanks for the information, Luria! Very helpful except I'm still having issues going live using Ecamm. I've been trying to go live in a Facebook group in which I'm a member, however instead I went live to my own personal Facebook page - even though I had selected going live to the group. I see that the Stream Key and the Server URL are the same for the Facebook group as it is for me personally. I would've though that the Server URL would be specific to each Facebook location (group, page, etc.). Thoughts?
Great video and great share! Although I totally agree that it's not the end of the world I think this is a dumb obnoxious move for FB to do to its users. We set up FB groups to nurture our audiences. Huge inconvenience. Thanks so much!
Great video! Are you still able to schedule the live's using Streamyard so it will automatically play the pre-recorded video inside of the group using rtmp?
Yep! Just choose RTMP as the destination similar to what I showed. Though, I really don't recommend streaming pre-recorded content, unless it's VERY clear that's what you're doing and there's a very good reason for it. It breaks trust with the audience and likely causes them to stop watching your lives.
I was super excited to see this video! I was going to follow the instructions to use sports cam, but realized these step by step instructions are for using this method from a computer. Can this method work from an iphone? If so, what are those steps?
It depends on how you are streaming from your phone. If you're working with just the phone, then you won't be able to schedule a stream but you can click on the Live option to go live on the fly. If you are using a tool that works with stream codes, then yes!
Great video! I, and according to Reddit - a lot of others, have a similar issue with a well-established church Facebook page that has gone live since the pandemic. After March 23rd, when I click to go live as you describe in your video, I get a pop-up that says, "You cannot go live - Your account needs to have an established presence before you can go live on Facebook." If you click "learn more" it tells you how to go live and mentions newer pages may not be able to go live. This isn't a new page and has close to 200 followers. I've tested other pages with far fewer followers and they work fine (for now). Not sure if I just need to create another page or if there is a fix. If you know a fix, please let me know.
Well that’s annoying 🤣 Facebook tends to get really buggy with new things like this. I haven’t heard of them locking it down but that message does indicate the intention to. Perhaps report it as a bug daily. If I come across anything I’ll update!! Sorry that’s happening. :(
@@LiveStreamingPros This is what our church is having as an issue as well. We cannot take the steps as you presented as they give you an error that is stated such as @kirksfilms above.
Hi Luria - a few more questions about this since I'm about to try to use it... #1. With the Streaming Software option selected, will I be able to toggle back and forth between being live on camera and sharing my screen? I think you said yes with this option and no with the webcam option but I wanted to check. #2. Can I play short videos during a live using this new set up? I'll have them set up as a "scene" in ecamm and want to make sure I can play them. Let me know. xoxo, Anne
It depends on the method you choose - if you only use the Facebook Live Producer, you have to choose between your camera and screen share when you start - you can't use both. But if you are using streaming software like Ecamm, Streamyard, vMix, etc. then you can do all the things (pretty much ;-) ).
We have a business page that we go live to every week via Ecamm. We then share that live stream to different groups. We don't go live specifically into those group we just share our live stream with them. Will that continue to work? Thanks Luria you're great 🙂
That was VERY informative!! But I have a question, if I'm using an android phone to connect to my Mevo app can I still do all this or do I have to use a computer or tablet?
Hey, howdy! In y'all's store you have the Animated Trivia Overlays for Ecamm Live, OBS, and vMix, is there a way for users to adjust the colors of this overlay (and correct answer color) in Ecamm? Thanks.
No, I'm afraid it's not possible to edit the colours in Ecamm. The reason for this is that I wanted the trivia to be super easy to setup and use. So instead of having multiple scenes or overlays that you need to manually show and hide, you pick one of the overlays, edit the text and then the answer is automatically revealed when the timer runs down. If you would be interested in purchasing a version that is customized with your preferred colours, feel free to reach out to me at paul@livestreamingpros.com
Another workaround... Use obs virtual camera as your camera within Facebook producer and then use s social stream ninja to get the comments within obs as a browser source. Simple.
You'll need permission to stream on their pages or into their groups, then you'll need a tool like vMix, Ecamm, Streamyard, or Restream that allows for multicasting.
These are the general steps for streaming to groups. You can find more info on Zoom RTMP here: support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB0060769
It will work, you'll want to do some testing to get things locked down. I'd start with just the phone and once you get that working the way you want, then repeat the process with your wireless mic.
Thank you so much Luria. One question: the stream key is unique for each FB group, right? I have several FB groups so need to go through this process for each of them, correct?
Thank you! This has been driving me crazy!!!!!! OT: You seem to be an Apple Fan. This question may be too nuanced to address in the comments but...Why can I go Live in Facebook in my new MAC laptop (chrome) and not on my iMAC desktop (chrome)? All of my apps and browsers are updated!!
I shared your video with the my fellow admins in a facebook group and the woman that started it said she "had heard in her business groups that Facebook accounts were getting banned for using a workaround." Have you heard anything like this?
People always spread that rumor every time fb changes anything. This isn’t a workaround. It’s how streaming has worked for decades. There isn’t a ban for doing it. :)
Surely we could just copy and share a link from our personal Facebook into the group to draw people out. That is a lot easier for me. The no comments thing is the dealbreaker. Thanks tho
Sure you could, but 1) there are new restrictions on live outside of groups 2) reach will be lower sharing a link vs going live directly inside the group. Worth a try, just heads up those will be the challenges! :)
There are a few reasons why the go live button might be grayed out in a Facebook group, including: • Live video or events are disabled: Go to your group's settings and check that Live and Create event are enabled in the Edit post formats section. If they're not, you might need to add them. • You're not an admin: You might need to be an admin to go live in a Facebook group. • You're logged into the wrong account: Make sure you're logged into the account that manages the page. • Your connection is unstable: Try using WiFi instead of cellular data, or testing your internet connection. • Your device doesn't have enough power: Try checking your battery. • Facebook says you need an established presence: Try growing your page and trying again later.
If I have admin rights to the page and the groups, can I create these scheduled lives or is the RTMP code different for me than it would be for the owner who would actually be the one going live from Streamyard?
Well, this is all Greek to me. Do I need to do this through Zoom or something like that? I thought I could just do it through Facebook. I tried this with my old computer and got absolutely nowhere could not live stream any place other than from my phone
Thank you this is super helpful! Unfortunately in our group the comments ARE super important and we used to pin them in streamyard so they would be highlighted in the live for all to see which comment we were discussing. Is there a work around for this??
Yep! In the hamburger menu in your zoom room, you’ll see “go live” and then it’ll open a new browser window. That’s where you will find the RTMP settings. I don’t believe it works on the free zoom account though.
I'm so glad this was helpful for you! 🎉 Hope that maybe you'll be able to stop by and say hey during one of our live streams someday! (Tuesday at 10:00am PT) 🙂
The stream key just gives you access, it doesn't turn anything on or off. If your streams are failing while you are alive, there could be a lot of reasons, you'll need to do some troubleshooting. For example it could be that your connection is not stable and is failing on you, or could be that your computer is not able to handle everything you're asking it to do and so it is shutting down at some point. You'll need to test some different things, one at a time, until you figure out which is the issue.
Hi, I already saw your all video. I really like this. I want to talk to you regarding my online course facebook Ads. Can you able to help me regarding this matter.
I use ecamm and still can't go live in my group and I followed the EXACT way you said to do it. No matter how many times I try, it still tells me I need to connect my streaming software to begin.
That's something different and doesn't impact the new Facebook limitation. You can check out more about Ecamm's Zoom integration here: www.ecamm.com/zoom/
I’m stuck here too. You didn’t show how you got that pop up screen with the rtmp. I went to “add app” with the old system. I did that by going into settings and scroll down to “add app” you didn’t show where to go to pull up the streaming options. I’ve looked for it everywhere and still can’t find it. There is a little black box that is on the screen that says “connect streaming software to go live” but you can’t click on it to add it there. I’m stuck at this point. Speak to us like we are in kindergarten. It may be any easy fix but I have no idea how you got that window up that just maniacally was there when you finished talking.
I'm so glad this was helpful for you! 🎉 Hope that maybe you'll be able to stop by and say hey during one of our live streams someday! (Friday at 10:00am PT) 🙂
When Im live on a private fb group why is this also showing on my personal fb? The group is private so should not be showimg on my personal fb? Anyone any advice?
The permalink is attached to your profile, but it doesn't mean the public can see it, and it shouldn't be posting to your profile. If it is, you likely need to review your settings when you're going live.
In the hamburger menu in your zoom room, you’ll see “go live” and then it’ll open a new browser window. That’s where you will find the RTMP settings. I don’t believe it works on the free zoom account though
nope you're making the same exact mistake all the other so called "experts" make....that all facebook pages are the same. I have no "create live video" button on any of my groups or pages.
If you're the admin of the group, you need to enable live streaming in the group - facebook.com/help/144548630973199?helpref=faq_content - I didn't include that in this video because most people looking for help on this topic are already streaming in their group so it's a step they've already been through to activate streaming.
