Tbf, at the current point in time, that’s true for most social media sites (aside from TikTok) to some degree or another, the internet has “matured” at a much faster rate than I think anyone really thought.

There are billions of ways you can actively see that happening, the algorithm TikTok uses to provide you with content has to be one of the most aggressive ones out yet and that's because contrary to Google and Facebook, the Chinese company that's behind it has no qualms about shoving it in your face and telling you that they do so... It's the same level of data mining that everybody else does but with the difference being that they have no issue distributing that data to advertisers/ using it to guide you to content cause there's no legal liability from their government and there probably never will be... The reason the US was so panicked about TikTok during Trump's office time was because they realised that China was getting in the user data mining game and they were actually pretty successful at it too... In this day and age data is power, cause data can be used for far more than simply creating an advertisement algorithm, data can be used to literally shape the opinion of the common folk and one's virtual avatar is far more valuable than their actual real world life cause that can't be used for them to be controlled so methodically, no media has enough power to convince someone that what they believe is their own personal and well structured idea, than social media.

I mean that is a sacrifice. But as of now we have zero large companies making vr affordable. Meta is making that jump to invest and their products on the hardware end of the spectum have been great. The space isnt large enough yet for other companies to want to make the plunge as well, this is why we have a distinct lack of AAA vr titles

The board can't yeet Zuck because of the dual-class share structure. Ordinary shareholders, who own more of Facebook than Mr Zuckerberg, do not control what they own. He's CEO, chairman, and has 58% voting power, he is untouchable. He can actually fire any of the board at any time without cause.

The entire reason I deleted my account after a few years was because they changed to requiring real names and started asking for IDs to confirm said name. .edu was a pretty short period of time when it was focused on college students.

I'm only using my real first name and some acronyms for public social networks for privacy reasons. But never had an FB account anyways, because that platform was sketchy from the beginning with all the psychological tricks, data sniffing and weird TOS and community guidelines. They also tried to cheat E.U. cyber privacy laws multiple times, (which silicon valley tech giants all tend to do) which ended up them getting slapped on their fingers multiple times and they had to make some changes.

This. I have tried to explain this to so many people but was dismissed. If you don’t feel good using it you lose all interest in trying again.

I wanna point out that usually without competition, a manufacturer starts losing the need to improve or lower prices, or in general do things to be 'more enticing than the others in the industry' Tho ofc theres a chance that, if vr headsets made by meta are super overpriced, other companies might feel comfortable lowering prices if meta's are off the market (but, I just feel its unlikely)

@@Gabito04 I think what he means by the "VR thing" is the fact that Meta's VR headsets (which are seen as great entry-level headsets by most people) might not be of use anymore if Meta comes crashing down. (Though, at the same time, I've never liked those VR headsets made by Meta, telling by the fact that they MADE you have a facebook account.)
