There are no minimum camera specs. You can use your choice of webcam, dslr, mirrorless, camcorders or even download the OBS app on your iphone to use the phone as a camera source. So may options.

HI Monte. will this pick up a mevo camera or a cannon camcorder? If so, whe do we need to do first as far as connecting the camera to the equipement for the software to be able to know it exist?

I’ve never owned a MEVO camera so I have not tested it with OBS. A canon camcorder should work but you will need a capture card such as the elgato camlink. When you connect the camcorder to the camlink device, you’ll just connect the camlink directly you your computer as it as a normal USB connection. This will allow any computer to see the camcorder as a “webcam”. In the OBS platform, you’ll simply look for “Add Video Source” and you’ll see your camlink (which is your actual camcorder)

Hello Monte, I love your video, I wish you could help me. Our church has the PTZ optics camera and we had a computer built for us....the builder will not help with this problem. We have 3 television monitors....The problem is audio. I can get video but I can't seem to get the audio to record. I ha wve tried everything....we have everything we need, this is a new sanctuary built 3 years ago. Since Covid-19 the pastor (my husband) wants to livestream his messages from the church. Could you please do a video on audio troubleshooting? I tried all audio inputs (PTZ, in-line, or windows(default) choices) but still no sound

Not that I know of. I don't have a VPN to test, but having a background in IT Networking, (Cisco and Foundry Networks, Barracuda Firewalls) not sure what you prevent this other than a port not being open.

You can bring iOS devices into the OBS software as a webcam using "OBS CAMERA" app found in the app store.

Steve Ovat You connect it with an app called NDI HX Camera and then download the plug in for it for OBS. It’s super easy. I use 3 iPhones as my webcams for our streams at church. It’s helpful when you have a small budget and now you can do multiple angles.

How are you streaming to facebook live in 1080? When I try, I still get downscaled by fb to 720. Also, how are you streaming in 1080 at 2500 bits/s? When I stream to youtube 1080 I need at least 6000 to provide an improvement over 720

FB - I’ve put in a LOT of hours live-streaming to the platform and that contributes to 1080p being unlocked. For YT, you can change your bitrate to the resolution you desire. By default it’s set to variable.

I hit the copy button , go back to OBS and I’m not able to copy into stream key box. I normally copy and paste, but I don’t see that option. How do I copy it to OBS. I’m using Mac software. Are you able to paste on notepad document or anywhere else. The copy/paste function is a normal function so without visually seeing the issue, it’s difficult to troubleshoot.

We are having trouble getting the sound from our Yamaha Mixing Console MG24/14FX. The music we play using the computer is good, it's just any other sound (lapel mic/singers mics) are not coming in so the video goes silent once anything pushed from the computer is turned off. Any suggestions?

Hello my Brother, I tried to download version 25 but I could only get version 26 to come up. Can you please check it out? It’s the same as 25 until you get to the point where you want to connect to Facebook & RU-vid. The info to the right on version 25 is different from 26 when you want to identify your church.

Within the "Audio Mixer" section, you'll need to select the gear icon next to your audio source and select "Advanced Audio Properties" From here you'll need to adjust the "Sync Offset" - (You will need to test out the setting number that works best as equipment is different and speed of data transmission. I'd recommend starting around 220 ms and adjusting up or down from there as your starting point to get video and audio in sync)

Definitely moving away from streaming on a phone so that you can do more with your live streaming abilities. Not sure if your setup, but green screen is a possibility but honesty a nice, clean background with proper lighting always looks better than virtual backgrounds.

In theory this would be all you need, but everyone's setup is so different that I'd need to know a little more about what you have. You would also need a video capture card such as a camlink device to connect your camera to your computer so that it is recognized. At the minute we are using Zoom, which isn't ideal... Is there a way to project lyrics for songs via OBS? Also are you able to use sources outside the building, such as other laptop cameras and phones?

You can manually add lyrics to OBS but a better solution is to use NDI to bring in lyrics from dedicated software as such as SongShowPlus/ProPresenter/etc OBS does allow you to bring external video sources from phones easily with its app.

Please help. My church is having trouble hearing the music and only can hear talking through the mic. We can't get someone to help us with it. For instance when a person is singing, you cannot hear the instrumentation. Please help.

hi, I like your videos and often watch them. I am planning to teach online that means through youtube. I have a question. In live streaming I have seen various teachers to arrange their video in a system that at first there is a photoshop background, and in the left side of the background there is laptop screen type border and inside that border video of the document camera is playing ( copy where the teacher writes) and in the top of the right side their institute logo and under that there is square box and inside the box the webcam of the teacher is playing. Can you tell me that how they make it in their youtube live stream. There will be a delay as you’re sending a signal to any social media platform. Depending on your internet speed will determine the delay time. You’ll want to focus on your OBS broadcast stream and not try to monitor it on FB.

We are using zoom for our Church services, and it is an audio mess. We try to sing, talk, and play music through it, I have to mute everyone except the speaker to get fair audio. How can we make this work as if we all were together in the church building?

If everyone is in a DIFFERENT location, there is no platform that will help with the audio issues you're experiencing. What I'm seeing is people are trying to adapt these platforms to their wants rather than adapting to what the platforms were actually built to do and handle. Without knowing your workflow, I can only suggest what one of my church clients is doing, which is pre-record everything and then have someone adjust audio in the editing process and then live-stream a pre-recorded video. Each church leadership is different so this only works per approval of leadership. Melon is expensive, Restream is expensive, the only way to stream to multiple platforms is obs with the correct plugins which is FREE.

No. I promise you don’t. OBS is a customer software. It doesn’t work in professional production environments when big $$ is at the table. Every platform has its use case. Unfortunately a lot of people assume and haven’t worked in other environments outside of their own and not aware of what is needed for other specific use cases.

Live streaming platforms don’t allow for the “uploading” of slides. You’ll want to use another screen to display slides and use the OBS window capture feature

Does your computer have a video capture card or are you using an external capture card device. Each computer components in different so without knowing specifics or your computer and camera source, not sure how much further I can guide you.

Congrats with getting started with your video content. OBS does not allow for directly inviting guests. You'll need to use a third party software such as skype or zoom. I've included tutorials videos of this within the course ( valetmedia.podia.com ). Another option you have are paid software platforms similar to OBS such as BeLive or StreamYard that easily allow for inviting guests.

OBS is not a platform for mobile devices. If you want to bring in mobile devices and use their camera within OBS, that is possible with some additional steps which are outlined in the course.

OBS is not built for mobile, but if you want to add your camera as a source that’s possible. You can use both hard wired and wireless to connect. GoPro devices can be used as camera sources as well.

Monte, do you schedule on-church campus training and assist ministries with setting up their equipment. Can this be used with macbook pro? Training was excellent Also, can this be set-up to also show on our screen in-house while live streaming?

This can be done with Mac computers, but something I don’t recommend as video streaming works much better on PC Computers. It can be setup to show your screen in-house pending you have the equipment that allows it such as true dedicated switcher. On-campus training is on a case by case basis, as it does require A LOT of time, travel expenses and it takes away time from me growing my business.

That’s a very open ended question that definitely requires specifics as to type of camera you plan to use, existing setup but a short general answer is that you just need to physically connect it to your computer or your video switcher that is connected to your computer.

I need to grab a FB Live video that someone posted and with their permission resend it out over our OBS platform. is that possible? Awesome. You can definitely do that. On my website valetmedia.podia.com/ check out my "Technology Toolbox" ... You can download the video via a software like clipgrab and then load it into your OBS as a "media source" ... Then push it to your live and you're go to go.
