My parents would’ve killed me if I’d behaved like Bingo when we went to the movies. Bandit deserves sainthood for being so patient & gentle with her, but I think Chili should’ve been there too for some extra support. Bingo’s not a bad kid - she’s just super energetic.
@YesTodaySatan69

I’ve always thought she was at work during this episode, just because that’s generally when only one of my parents would take both me and my sister to something like that. Like, she was at work and Bandit knew Bluey wanted to see this movie, so he just loaded them up and said “let’s go”.
@brittanywalker4792

I think it's important for parents to do things on their own with their kids sometimes. Chili could have been at work, or Bandit could be trying to give her some time to herself, or she could be grabbing coffee with a friend. I honestly think it's great that Bandit specifically is willing to go take his kids to do things without their mom there, because a lot of dads don't do that.
@johnmccarron7066
@johnmccarron7066 Год назад
@@brittanywalker4792 Very true, but the event itself may require two parents. Taking kids to something that demands they do things that are hard for kids (like the movies, which demand they sit still and be quiet...that can be real hard for some kids) might require a second parent or adult to help manage things (if it's multiple kids in close age).

It's really interesting that Bluey very commonly gets misread by first-time viewers as a boy. Likely got a lot to do with the color choice ("blue" culturally currently being associated with "male") but it also speaks to how true this show remains to basically any six-year-old regardless of gender.

Bandit and Chilli are the best TV parents ever. I love that they get the chance to be people outside of their roles as parents, unlike Peppa Pig, which is mostly from a child's perspective. I think what I like most about the show is that it's a lovely charming Australian family - who HAPPEN to be dogs. They don't act *completely* human of course, but they don't have that same verbal tic that Peppa Pig and her family do where they have to make their animal sound every time, and that makes it easier to integrate with the show. That does mean that the doglike moments are lovely when they show up.

There are a few episodes with really a *ton* of characters on the screen at the same time and they make sure that everybody adequately does or does not wag their tail depending on the situation. For one it just makes for a really great, polished experience, showing that they really care when making this show. I can appreciate Bandit being willing to take Bluey home, when she was scared, because that was my first movie experience too. I was Bingo’s age, and it was the first Toy Story. During the scene where Buzz got knocked out the window, and the following interrogation, I got so scared, I cried to my Dad “I don’t wanna see Woody die” and my Dad ended up taking me home. I had to wait 5-6 months for it to come on vhs, and I asked my dad to watch it with me on our TV until the part that scared me was over. Maaaaan I had wished I stuck it out for one more minute, but after this episode I’m glad my dad was supportive.

I don't blame you, says the 40 year old dude who's watched these episodes by himself and I'm sure I've pestered you guys over at Cinema Therapy for making some sort of "series therapy" just for Bluey. The Sleepytime, Grandad and Baby Race episodes are exceptional and I always find myself crying while watching them. It doesn't help that I also have 2 girls around Bluey and Bingo's ages and that my youngest one readily identifies as a Bingo (even though she's half Bingo and half mischievous Muffin). The episode that drew me in to the series was the "Takeaway" one where they're on the Chinese takeout restaurant. I remember watching that one, feeling identified as a dad and easily believing that my kids would do that. Flash forward a few months and I take my kids Christmas shopping w my wife: my Bluey is running around on a sugar high tossing everything she can in the shopping cart while my Bingo is asking me questions like "we do we have 2 arms and 2 legs?", just like in that episode. I just burst out laughing telling my wife how we where exactly in a Bluey episode. Oh and mate, Bluey is a girl, for realsies. Looking forward to more Bluey episodes.....(and the soundtrack is in Spotify).

It really helped. I also liked the episode Daddy Robot. It has a sweet moment of affection between the parents. My parents are very private with their affection. I don't ever remember seeing them kiss, even in their wedding pictures. So I had no idea what appropriate affection looked like in a couple, and I had to figure it out myself. I do love that episodes of Bluey happen more as a snapshot of the life of the family. From the beginning of the episode, you can tell that Bandit has already had a day with these two. It kind of comes off as though they were running errands before they came to watch the movie. With how rambunctious Bingo is, she either hasn't had her nap after being out all day and that is adding to her restlessness or (probably more likely) she had a powernap during the errands and now she has that *Second Wind Mode* activated after having been bored all day already. Meanwhile, Bluey reminds me soooo much of when my little siblungs went through that "scared of everything and so I need to know what happens next" phase of their life. This episode is very cute. I love how these really just feel like moments of a family's life. I also love that Bandit doesn't always have all the answers immediately and needs a minute to backtrack and think or gets distracted with Bingo's antics. It makes it feel more real. What isn't real is how they hadn't been kicked out of the theater. Also that story about your daughter at the movies was hilarious. My nephew did something similar once, but was either whoppers or gummy worms.

My boyfriend and I love watching bluey with our 6 month old son. Like others, my favorite episode is Baby Race. For me, personally, especially being a first-time mom and my son being a 2 month preemie, this episode stood out to me a lot. Like other parents subconsciously do, I've compared what my son is able to do currently versus what full term 6 month olds are able to do, and it does tend to make me feel like my boyfriend and I aren't doing enough. But, after watching the Baby Race episode, it made me take a step back and realize that he may not be able to do everything a full term 6 month old can do, but he'll get there eventually and the best thing my boyfriend and I can do for him is to give him the attention, space, and opportunity to go at his own pace and to not worry if he's caught up with other children his age or not.

Suggestions: The Owl House - as an ADHD Mom with an ADHD daughter this resonated with us both a lot. It's just good food. Avatar: The Last Airbender - Iroh is best surrogate dad. I watched it with my now adult step sons, and I've watched it with my bio kids - it's a great show for everyone, but it's a great opportunity for young teens to get an objective view of facing big things, making mistakes, learning from your mistakes - being a teenager is rough- you're forming strong opinions that at least FEEL like they matter (some totally do!) and people don't always take you seriously or listen - the adults don't take over so much as guide. Good stuff.

I'm from Sweden, where everyday depictions of play, caring parenting, and emotions has been a big theme in cartoons since the 70s. The most popular character, Alfons Åberg is about a boy who lives with his single dad who is patient and loving like Blueys dad. The episodes are about feelings of fear, anxiety, friendship, and shame. I no longer live in Europe and was surprised when my son was born how most North American cartoons focus so heavily on academics. I guess that's why Bluey is such a sensation!

Another show we really love (before we found Bluey) is Puffin Rock. If you were to do a series of great little kid shows, Bluey, Puffin Rock & Octonauts would be our picks. They each teach a lot about relationships, embracing differences, working together, etc. - just a lot of good stuff. Octonauts isn’t in a family context, but the team functions a lot like family.

I'm watching Bluey through this channel 😅. I cannot count the times tv and movies have taught me very valuable life lessons. My parents never created a safe space to share what I felt or think. I was exposed to TV very early at age and received good guidance over how to choose what to watch. I had a TV in ny room without parent blockage too. So, during my teenage and early 20s, tv was a source of help. I love that Bluey have shown the value of well taught and written entertainment media.

My kids dad and I always made it a point to talk about actors and characters, we would point out other movies different actors had been in, it seemed to help them understand that the movies are really just stories, and we would listen for familiar voices from animated movies, and with music too, Bluey is such a special show.💐

I get that it's for comedic effect, but Bingo is a perfect example of "don't take very young kids to the movies". They don't have the capacity to sit there and watch for an hour (or more). They just don't. It's unreasonable to expect them to do this, and it's unfair for everyone else there to put up with it. As for Bluey's dad getting pummelled with questions, yes, this is parenting. Constantly. And it's exhausting. I really loved the meme of "when I became a parent I understood why, when Luke just wouldn't stop asking questions, Yoda just died".

What I would differently is I would have made sure that Bingo can stay home with the other parent because she is being incredibly distracting & it’s not enjoyable for other viewers. But I would have brought home some popcorn for them. For Bluey I would likely put her in my lap at that point or we would leave for a few minutes & wait for the scary bit to be over if she needed it

The onsies episode hasn't yet debuted over here, but that episode is impeccable. Baby race really hits us every time we watch it, since it's such a merge between the first time parent struggles/insecurities and our second kids crawling style, since she exactly a "bum shuffler". I remember watching it and crying and warning my wife that whenever she watched it that was going to happen to her, she went in with bravado half believing me, then Bella says it "you're doing great", tears, tears everywhere. I've warned her about the "Grandad" episode since I've seen that exact dynamic play out right before my eyes with her and her (perpetually in motion) dad. She heeded my warnings on that one lol. And it's the gift that keeps on giving (not because I just cried a little writing this) but because of what they quickly go over immediatly after that phrase and they cut to current day Chilli, Bluey and Bingo, "mom are those happy tears? Yes they're happy tears" The concept of happy tears is so driven home at this point with our kids that the other day my wife burst out crying during an award ceremony I turned around to tell my 5 year old Bingo that mom was crying happy tears and she immediatly got it. When she saw my Bluey (8 year old) she told her all about how mom cried happy tears, "so it was ok". How can one be a parent and not love/relate to this show?

I LOVE the bit you mentioned about how Alan shows his kids behind-the-scenes stuff. My parents encouraged a love of film since I was little but I was also a sensitive kid like Bluey and it didn’t take much to scare me. My parents would tell me it was just special effects but I still didn’t understand. Then when I started getting older and DVDs started coming out with bonus features, I’d watch some of the segments on HOW they did it and it really helped put those fears to bed. Now I live in the era of RU-vid where tons of people make content about behind-the-scenes stuff in films and it’s great. One of my favorite genres that I’ve been able to explore is the horror genre, especially the works of Mike Flannagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor). I have friends who are still sensitive to scary things who want to watch these things with me because they know how much I enjoy them. So I make it a safe space: we watch stuff in the daytime and I warn them of jumpscares or intense moments before they happen. I know some people would disagree with this approach but I really just want to make it easy for my friends and I to enjoy the stuff I like, especially since they’re taking the time and making the effort to bond with me over something I love. I take the empathy I would offer the scared little kid I used to be and apply it where I can because not everyone has the capacity for intense stuff.

To show my age,the first movie I remember seeing in the cinema was Aladdin. I got creeped out by the Cave of Wonders because it was loud when he roared. But I loved the idea of the magic lamp and I liked abu and rajah a lot and I was enchanted by A Whole New World. It was a great experience despite being scared by the cave of wonders. Apparently the first movie I was taken to was Beauty and the Beast when I was two. I saw Aladdin when I was three. I also saw the Lion King when I was four and the part with the mouse and how huge it was on the big screen made me just sit in wonder of what Disney movies were

I just noticed the talking pinecone scene is a reference to Star Wars’ “use the force, Luke” I’m just watching this episode because we’re taking our 4yo to watch Inside Out 2, and while she’s been to the movies before, she’s starting to be more sensitive with scary bits. I love animated media, and I’m a fan of most of Pixar’s movies, so it’s a bit against my nature to walk out of the theater before the movie ends, so this is really helpful to handle young children’s fears the best way.

I would love to see "The secret life of Walter Mitty" getting therapized. I have seen it recently for the first time, and especially the first 30 minutes hit way too close to home. I kinda feel stuck and struggle to change things, and I notice more and more that I drift off way too often into thoughts. Not as humorous or action loaded as in the movie, but it feels like I live more in a hypothetical or imaginative world, think about situations that would never occur like that, have conversations that I won't have in real life. I struggle in job, hobbies and love life because all of it gets pressured by the weight of the thoughts and expectations about the future.

I love watching 'behind the scenes' stuff if a movie scared me so much I can't calm down to sleep. Just watching the actors goofing around and seeing FX artists at work. For the movie 'Frozen' (the 2010 horror one with the wolves) they talked about this wolf-looking bordercolie they used who completely exhausted one of the actors to the point they had to fill in the blanks with a puppet wolf head. And then the actual wolves they used were just good boys and girls wagging their tails as they did a good job snarling and looking scary.
