There should be strict laws preventing HOA Management firms from abusing their power, and an easy way for people to file effective complaints at a county and state levels against such HOAs.
I never saw the appeal of paying a mortgage plus rent at the same time. What a deal! I have a snow service that shows up and does the job without an HOA. If you want an absentee/do nothing landlord situation just go back to renting.
Yes, no freedom to park cars on the front lawn, open a motorcycle repair shop in the garage, and allow the landscaping to go wild. That's freedom - to live and act like pigs.
@@kennixox262 Crazy how it looks completely different in my eyes. I would like to fly the American Flag or MIA/POW FLAG, or support the police. Nobody wants cars on the lawn or a repair shop in a driveway, but you can have that anywhere without giving up your rights to your property. Most CC&R’s your condo agreement are 2 to 3 inches think. I do not need to give anyone a reason to crawl up my but and micromanage my life. If you need that kind of babysitting the buy up HOA properties. It is an unconstitutional infringement on my right to live my busy life without anyone micromanaging my time. No Thank you. I am an adult and I know how to take care of my properties without a babysitter! Some people need that!
aren't the lawmakers elected? lol, hence, the people elect lawmakers that don't align with their values. I would never live under a HOA, I remember living in a neighborhood where they asked if we wanted one, we resoundingly all say Heck No. Each house was custom built and we all enjoyed the uniqueness of our neighborhood. We did get together and did things but no HOA. That was one reason I never really looked at houses in Florida.
We have mandatory 3rd party audits in CA and those are a complete scam. You can tell no auditor actually goes on-site to check the true status and remaining lifespan of each item. They just copy and paste a template. For example, we had a very badly rusted BBQ grill and the audit said this had 4 years of life left. Audits are just another large expense for the communities and nothing ever happens to the auditors when you question them missing large problems.
I love it... I know a few people who moved out of Connecticut calling it a "communist state". Just to move into an HOA down in Florida where they dictate the color of there mailbox. Good luck Florida....... you can have all those fools.
7 years leaky roof for me. And now its under new management past month still waiting to find out who to call for maintenance now my laundry drier vent is clogged cant get in touch with anyone
@@jamesp2708this may or may not be helpful 4 months later but just in case - there are a bunch of great videos on yt that teach you how to unclog those vents from both inside your unit and the outside little slot. I know the professionals use a high powered vacuum but the DIY videos here go into lots of detail and options and make it sound relatively easy (compared to what I thought at least)

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely!” Quote goes something like that. lol it’s true but maybe mostly only because people who seek power usually have narcissistic tendencies to begin with. It’s awful bc the good people who don’t seek power for powers sake aren’t motivated to run for leadership positions whether it’s in politics or as HOA president. You get to basically be a dictator as HOa Pres, especially when there are only 3 ppl on the board who areeither the same or naive or are people pleasers& just go along with anything. Those are the exact people narcissists surround themselves with. If other board members, CAMs or board attorneys don’t fall in line, they’re either fired or manipulatively pushed out. Narcissists can often be highly intelligent and plan 10 moves ahead. They also have a lot of blind spots though bc of that narcissism. Exposure is imminent 😊
I have been very harassed by two people on the board...that just decided NOT to like me...I have been under attack for 3 years...starting to calm down as there are 4 board memebers NOT hurting me. But these people on bOARDS need to be accountable and not harass renters...how disgusting
Local governments love HOA's as it relieves them of many tasks at the hyper local neighborhood level. Like mine, private streets that we pay to maintain and other things. Thankfully, I don't live in Florida, live in a 1,000 single family HOA that is run very well.
Regulating HOA's will not work. It will put some out of business, which puts assets at risk and ultimately drive up costs. Instead, make the HOA market more competitive. Allow homeowners to put out to bid the HOA each year. Highly efficient and trustworthy companies will surface.
WE can advance our cause by making sure developers are only allowed to file for HOA IF and only IF they FIRST build/construct the amenities: pools, tennis courts, club house, you name it. Currently they do it without any conditions! Disgusting !
