The factorio team is small, they're like what 25 people? Amazing game theyve made with such few people. I tried satisfactory which is like factorio but in 3D... and I prefer factorio because managing a big factory in 3D is a biatch and a half.
Completely agree. I got so frustrated with Satisfactory because it's too much effort to build anything well. Building even the simplest, most boring multi-story box of a factory, there's still too many decisions to make as far as wiring, belts... do they go in the walls? The floors? It's just too complicated! And even if you had it completely figured out how you want to build things... it's still agonizing slow to actually go through and build it.
I looked at satisfactory, and I didn't even give it a chance. Game might be nice, but factorio as a FPS didn't appeal to me. Dyson Sphere Program on the other hand has been a blast. Now, would I say it's better than Factorio? No. The circuit logic side alone is cruelly lacking in DSP. But is it still a really fun game? yup! And I mean... Building a dyson sphere is a lot more exciting than launching a rocket! ;) But I should probably give Satisfactory a chance at some point.
With satisfactory, the 3D space can make it a bit complicated at first, but once you figure out how to work in a 3D environment, there's a lot more you can do in satisfactory than you would be able to in factorio. Things like vertically stacking factories as you need more of that resource, mean you can build in a way that allows easy future expansion while keeping everything organized. The bus system works even better in the 3D environment, allowing you to run rails/roads under the bus to bring in extra resources for factories along the bus that need it, the ability to stack bus lanes vertically for as many lanes as you need, smart splitter lanes for low throughout items, etc. Plus their building system is great and you can do a lot with it, gives your factories a more unique feel to them than they would have in a game like factorio. But overall each game has its ups and downs.
I love how the most popular ship designing was slim and long platform in the middle + 2 storage areas for fuel and thrusters in the bottom Ships like this one 00:00
I see what you're getting at. I wonder if it could be rotated to the side, so it's wide and slim. storage areas and rockets on the left, collectors on the far right so it looked more like 8=====D :^ ) I challange you to make this kind of rocket instead :P
I always thought that there was more then they told and I am glad I was right! I also am excited to see the last planet on my own! Sounds like we won't get a FFF about it
@@SirMcMuffintoshApparently he's had access to expansion for like over a year and had been working with the devs in a feedback providing capacity and they asked him to like like 'host' the event. He did an awesome job btw
I am crazy proud that game industry in Czech Republic is in such good quality. It is not only Factorio, but many others like Euro/American Truck Simulator 2, Last train home, Kingdom Deliverance, Mafia and many many others. I give myself big pause from playing Factorio is last months (mainly because I completed the SE+K2 mod), I can imagine again playing this to whole night till early morning.
So, not sure if you could answer, but, do you have a sense for how long the game and DLC would take to beat? Like, is the three hundred hour playthrough having fun with a megabase, or is that to just reach and complete the end goal, whatever that is? Looking forward to more coverage whatever you do, appreciate you being transparent, congrats on kn being invited to the event once again, and thank you for covering the FFF every week, been one of my Friday rituals for the year listening to your coverage.
@@magnus0017 Firstly, thanks for the kind words and the support by watching all these years! Doing the FFF is such a highlight of each of my weeks. :) That's a good question. The 300+ hour save was definitely just having fun with a megabase. But, the expansion does add a lot of challenging new content so I would say that speed runners aside, it could definitely take an average experience level player at least 40+ hours to beat after launching their first rocket. So probably like 80-100 hours from game start to finish. But, I'm just really guessing here since I haven't actually played it near enough yet to get a full feel for that.
Actually, I think it would take a little bit more than that. Even an experienced player is going to look at all of the new mechanics and tools that you get and be astonished. So for a first-time playthrough, I think that even an experienced player is going to take about 120+ hours to finish it.
WOW, I live so close - in Hungary I could have come to meet all of you - I wish I knew about the event. being a casual player, I didn't expect to be invited, but I still envy you for being there. thanks for sharing your experience with the game and the team
Important note regarding any combo spoilers/no spoilers videos: it may a lot harder to prevent spoilers in the comments, especially as YT now "scrolls" through comments automatically while the video is playing. IK it'll be an issue either way, but it's at least easier to delete/block spoiler comments on pure no-spoiler videos as being bad faith.
As nice as it is hearing more about the expansion, its a little sad to hear that theres going to be a lot less speculation on the youtube side of things. What am I supposed to do now, come up with my own ideas??
So I havent really looked at the Pentapods. I know they exist but I havent read that FFF or the Spidertron FFF that included them. But hearing that there is so much they havent shown, Im 50/50 on if I want to just read about them now. Because I want to know everything about Space Age but I want to learn it all myself but I cant stop myself from reading the FFF's theyre so exciting and hearing theres so much still to discover makes me want to read the FFF's I havent read so just ararhweprib aw I am so excited for this DLC. I dont think Ive ever been more excited for a game release and this isnt even a game release its a god bless DLC!
@@acoolnameemm Totally get where you're coming from here! What to will tell you is that even after reading every Friday Facts and making overview videos for them, experiencing the expansion was very exciting and fresh for me, even the stuff I did know about. And again, there was enough things NOT shown in the FFF that made for awesome surprises so even if you go back and read all of them you'll still have plenty of new things to find out once you play.
I would add that with the sheer number of changes even in the fff, you're unlikely to even remember it all when you start playing. Personally I had many times during the event where I discovered a mechanic that I had previously read about but had completely forgotten, resulting in "oh right, this exist now! Awesome!" type of reactions.
@@TijmenZwaan can also attest to this! I realized just how much I'd forgot from the FFF when I re-discovered it while playing or someone else did and pointed it out to me
For those of us who played Space Exploration I only have one question about Space Age - Do you unlock logistic chests on Nauvis? Or do you get them on a different planet?
Considering how integrated Logistic bots are into Space Logistics (Rocket silos as "Requester chests" to supply Platforms with building materials according to the FFF), I really hope/assume they stay on Nauvis
This LAN meeting was so amazing that they did that, seriously Factorio has probably the best dev team out there. Other devs could learn a thing or 2 from them.
16:38 i really relate to this, im lucky enough to be a beta tester of a game (nuclear option) myself and the devs often hop into VC and we do some testing and then bugs we mention get fixed within the hour, its really awesome actually having a direct talk with the guys behind all this stuff.
I'm curious what the most unintuitive things you ran into during the event were, and whether it was something that can be resolved via better tips and tricks in-game or possibly even wiki, or if it would require actually changing the game behavior to resolve. You're not the first person I've heard specifically mention encountering lots of intuitive features/situations so I'm curious to know more about these. I could definitely see these being big content opportunities for you and other YTers once the embargo lifts, too.
@@matthewrose3 Great question! Basically the main things are what I mentioned in the video: How to build your first space platform properly, general travel between planets and automated delivery of products between planets. And also the train inturrupts as a whole. As for fixing the issues, I'd say better tips would help some, but I think better/more clear tooltips would be more helpful. However, some of it probably does need actual adjustments to the process to make it more straight forward and unambiguous. Either way though, you're right, this will be great stuff to make tutorials for once the embargo is lifted!
@14:06 The space constraints are honestly one of the things that appeal to me the most with the expansion. Instead of just being able to build 400000 furnaces in one single spot, this actually creates a bit bigger need for clever on-the-fly and custom solutions to fit whatever space you are given.
@@walksanator I dont think its a matter of porting the content, the content should just work since they already got it working on switch but switch doest have enough power to run the expansion
@@tlefevre2918 a lot of the game's increase in production scale comes from non-CPU-intensive sources like stacking belts, higher productivity/speed bonuses, and melting plates into (simpler than v1.1) fluids. I doubt Space Age is dramatically more computationally intensive unless the devs have confirmed themselves.
There were 10 teams in total. Teams 0 through 4 and teams 10 through 14. Why they decided to skip some numbers is probably related to lan ip setup, but that's just me speculating.
I wonder if it's a volcanic event where the lava floods the area or just starts spitting embers. Or maybe those deposits can only be found from dired up lava, and new lava flows in the biome regularly?
@@metalstarver642 Not sure who's team the footage of that was from but it's also entirely possible it was an oopsie. There were several hilarious incidents of players accidentally hitting the wrong button :p
Why does this game have to be so good - I can't spend another 5,000+ in it LUL. Oh crap ey! And with all these new possibilities of what this will bring for modders - I need a neural interface so I can play two games side by side, otherwise I'll never see anything but Factorio again ^^. I love that they invited you (absolutely rightly!) to the beta, for all your many mod spotlights, fff videos. Even if I still need many months for my SE+K2+248k+150 mods scenario - I can't wait when the 2.0 is here. One what I can see, why ther are not the "Power grid comb" mod implemented? Spaghetti should be only with belts LUL. Min. 28:50
@@disskuss4268 It was noticeable but in a good way! The generation overall, especially with cliffs and tree distribution seems much better than it is in 1.1!
The game looks really good and I'm excited about the new stuff. However, I think Space Age looks to be giving too much attention to enemies. Id venture to guess you can change difficulty with enemies in the settings, but I play factorio to build factories with a hint of danger, not fighting a war. There certainly needs to be a balance with all this. I realize some veteran players like the increased enemy difficulty challenge, but will new players be welcomed into the community with these changes? Time will tell. Aside from that concern of mine, I can't wait for it to launch.
Not sure if you can speak on this but did you ask the devs about playing without enemies? I ask because the building on gleba requires a drop from the pentapod nests and you noted that theres an obvious discrepancy with disabling enemies in the FFF overview. I'm absolutly gonna play with enemies I always do I love it but I know lots dont and I'm curious if they have a workaround
How complex would you say the expansion is on a scale if vanilla 1.1 is 1 and SE+K2 is 10? Closer to vanilla or closer to SE+K2? I really liked SE+K2, but the complexity was too much for me so I never got close to finishing it. I know there are even more complex overhauls like Py, but those are off the scale for me 😂
@@andershelsing4940 Hmmm well I only played K2 on it's own and and SE on its own and that was years ago and they've changed a lot since... But I'd say like a 5. It definitely has some aspects that are quite a bit more complex than what we have now, but it still feels within the realm of vanilla complexity of that makes sense. The most complicated stuff I experienced never felt un-manageable, just a bit confusing (mostly due to needing better explanations) and challenging in a fun way.
21:19 "I mean I could fake it, but whats the point" This is part of the reason why I enjoy your content. none of it feels forced. also if I could make a request on FFF videos, could you (assuming this doesnt violate part of the NDA) say if it was part of the Beta or if it was added since then. edit: do you still have access to the expansion? that would be nifty.
Thanks epb! Yeah for sure, if I'm able to, I'll do that. Although I suspect that nothing added as a result of the Beta testing will actually be shown in a FFF. I do retain access to it yeah. :) Which is huge for being able to make proper content for the release

12:30 nice power generation setup, too bad we don't get alt mode because I'm wondering how can "sulfur" and water result in a steam considering how they are NOT connected with two inputs each :D
The thing I want.. They did discuss in one of the FFF that they did simplify and streamline the experience several times.. That is good, but.. I want that they release the complicated and long version as a challenge difficulty, that they have not scrapped the things they decided to streamline and simplify.. Because after beating the regular Space Age few times, I would like to tackle this challenge mod, I believe Earendel was the one that had initially dreamed up the Space Age much more difficult, I want to play that version one day!
I hope they take the feedback with a grain of salt. Streamers and content creators are not the general public (the majority) who play a little differently.
@@madPav3L I hope they don't. The people they invited are people who are extremely experienced at the game and have years and thousands of hours of playtime. So if these people have difficultly figuring out some aspects, then the general public/new players will struggle extremely hard. I won't argue that the general public players differently, but I do definitely disagree with your take here. If I'm having someone test my new product for issues, I want it to be someone who has a deep understanding and experience with the product type and can easily spot things that are broken or poorly designed. Not someone who just picked up the game a week ago.
@@Xterminator I am not saying that they should ignore all feedback. I am saying that they should think about the feedback and then act on it. Feedback about bugs or something that is not intuitive or something like that is fine, but for example feedback about game balance and things like that is a different thing, because as you said, the people who were invited play the game a lot compared to the general public and therefore have different views on some issues.
ah, xterm made a wiener rocket. (actually...that was probably b-roll footage. lol. somebody else made a wiener rocket.) on a serious note: did the devs mention when the 2.0 documentation would hit? I have a list of like...15 mods / mod ideas I'd like to push out as soon as possible but about half of them require the 2.0 aspects (things like adding spoilage to different things, tweaking a bunch of things.
@@rhueoflandorin haha multiple teams definitely did that. :p They didn't mention this, but I'm pretty sure most modders already have access to it and have for a while. So if you have mods you need to update/make to work with 2.0 you can probably contact them and ask. :)
I've been playing factorio since .12. I like the game so much that I taught myself Lua code so I can write my own mods and play the game how I want to play. Thanks for the update
@@Xterminator i'm 51 and been missing around with coding for a few decades but nothing like this. my mods are more than less cheats that make the early game faster. like on space exploration i change the recipe back to the vanilla recipe like green circuits.
I’m not sure if I want the new content, new features or just the 2.0 in general to be super intuitive, there is so much fun when figuring things out for yourself and taking the time to understand how it works and not the game telling me in raw this how you do this or that. I understand the need for submitting this to the devs because you were in the middle of it and want to progress as a party in the game or experience with it, but once the DLC comes out for someone who maybe has the time to test his own designs and ideas I think is the best thing. Great video!
@@tatsverlio5335 I agree with you for sure. But I'll just say that it felt kind of beyond that... Like actually frustrating with how unintuitive parts of it where. Even if they make it more understandable there will absolutely still be plenty of trial and error with designs and figuring stuff out on your own. :)
"there's not enough weeks" because they've got too many tiny FFFs that barely show anything. i don't buy this "not enough weeks" excuse. I also don't get a good feeling that they're holding back stuff from the FFFs. not a blind purchase for me; I will wait for reviews.
Each to their own. They are purposely holding stuff back and doing some smaller FFF so that players can experience some stuff as a surprise. But hey, you can make whatever decision you want and are comfortable with. :)
When you say rockets are much cheaper I’m taking that as they no longer take 100 rocket parts to build, because with blue circuits replacing RCUs I don’t think that alone would alter the cost that much, obviously I know you can’t tell us due to the NDA
The only reason there is not enough days to showcase everything coming is due to the use of non-content filler FFF's that simply waste a Friday without discussing anything in regards to the expansion as to continue the weekly blog posts. If they actually show content instead of performance tweaks or "you can now read some values from reactors" we would know everything just as release came by.
This is 100% intentional btw... And not a bad thing. Knowing every single thing about the expansion before it's even out takes a lot of the fun and "magic" out of it. I don't know why anyone would actually want them to be revealing every single new thing before it's even out... That's like having a movie trailer show every single important scene to the story and then also showing the entire ending of the movie... Lol
Если есть такие ютуберы, которые уже слили хотя бы некое представление о пятой планете или других функциях или о новых врагах на Вулканусе, то я бы очень хотел посмотреть их.
Super excited! Did you mess with the belt item stacking at all? If so, how did it feel? It is one of those "smaller" changes that I am particularly excited about.
I just realized, could you, on a space platform, instead of using belts, just toss stuff off the platform then cqtch them using another inserter to transport items from the front to the rear?
Nope. You can toss stuff off, but the only thing that can grab outside the platform is the Asteroid Collectors and well, they only grab Asteroid chunks.
Maybe it is possible but it's not really a good solution once your thrusters are activated, then all the items start floating off. You also can't create gaps in your platform to prevent players from trying to save on materials
probably not, as they haven't mentioned anything about asteroid mining or a 5th planet. SE will probably expand space age alot more with that kind of stuff though
I'm so glad you got to be one of the beta testers. As an indie game dev, i find it incredible that they can have such an event and go through and patch 2 or 3 times DURING the event. The stock footage you got definitely showed off some interesting things. For example the oxidizer for the space platform engines require iron, which is fascinating to me. And in general the rocket capsule landing and jettison from the space platform is super cool to see. I was already planning on going to go to Volcanus first, you only further convinced me since you said it was your favorite to build on. I cannot wait to watch your 2.0 content while at work. I will "become violently sick" the day this comes out.
im not surprised it feels like a really good quality mod since they got earendal, you know, the guy who made Space Exploration onto the project for feed back. so i have no doubt it is going to be good!
Well it depends... If you plan to have it be mobile, them at some point you'll hit a limit of how many engines you can actually fit/fuel properly to move such a platform. For a stationary one, I'm actually unsure... Time to test!
That's not something to be proud of. Exterminator makes some amoutn of money off his youtube and its a side project for him. What have you gained from 20k hours to show for it? Nothing
Dang it, I'd have a question that is 80% about the last FFF (PLD nerf and spawners' buff), but the remaining 20% means I wouldn't get an answer. Oh well, 40 more days and I'll know! :D
@@Xterminator Q1, did the spawners' health buff feel like a bit too much, at times, on Nauvis? Q2, PLD were good but a 66% nerf is massive. Can you think of a reason why that nerf was needed, other than to simply balance PLD? I'm not looking for you to give that reason (if it exists), more looking for a yes/no answer, because NDA.
I can answer both these actually! If the biters evolve too much past your tech level then they can get out of hand with the new changes. They are challenging regardless but manageable if you keep up with your military tech and defenses. As for the PLDs, the reason given by the devs is that they were just too overpowered, and quite frankly I'd agree. Now I'm not sure I would have nerfed them THAT much but tbh they're still viable. Just not as wildly powerful as they were.
@@Xterminator I think the reason why PLD were hit as hard as they were, was because they are functionally free and autoaiming. You can always have more than one armor on hand to switch between running, building and combat. Not to mention the player controlled spidertron is the most dangerous entity in the game, PLDs fire out of the personal armor while in vehicles as well afterall. It'll feel annoying, but I understand WHY it had to happen. It'll make it so you can't just have PLDs and zero investment needed for the moment to moment gameplay.
@@Xterminator You did answer because those are 66% nerfed versions of the question I'm trying to ask without asking. ;) I can probably infer the answer to the question I'm avoiding, from those answers. But I can only be sure in 40 days. Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer, appreciated.
they are part of the DLC, but you don't need to have the planets and stuff to actually use it, meaning you can use it with any overhaul/combination of mods.
Correct, I don't believe I said otherwise? Evolution works basically the same I think. Although tbh I didn't really pay attention to that during the event so can't be sure as of it. Which planet to visit first is really just personal preference and what will fit best with your goal/base state. Personally I prefer Vulcanus because I love the Foundries and Big Mining drills, but there could be a case made to also choosing Gleba or Fulgora first instead tbh.
Hi. I have a questions: How expansion will be compatible with Space exploration? What cpu core was installed at demo day? Actually i cant finish SE due to low ups on my intel i9-7900x😢. Does this means that i should buy i7-14700kf processor with highest single thread perfomance? Thanks in advance.
@@vmened I'm unsure how well it will combine with Space Exploration, as they kind of accomplish the same thing but in slightly different ways and also the creator of Space Exploration is on the official Dev team now and worked heavily on the expansion. The machines for the LAN party had i9 13900k CPU. However, as someone else replied below, that's still not the best option. Right now the AMD x3D CPUs like the 7800x3D are the clear winners for Factorio performance at the moment.
Yes and no. The person who made space exploration is working on the DLC so there is clearly some inspiration but the dlc is different when compared to the mod. It won’t be as long or as hard. The DLC also is a 2.0 update for the game in general with a bunch of updates for the base game.
The Space Age DLC, the thing you buy, comes with a series of "mods" and a slightly different executable from 2.0 (and of course all of the art assets, sounds, etc for SA). You get 3 "mods": Space Age, Quality, and Elevated Rails, which you can activate mostly independently (SA-the-mod depends on both quality and elevated rails). This allows you to play a 2.0-vanilla game that has elevated rails, quality, or both. It also allows compatible mods to incorporate those things (K2 + elevated rails, for example); I would expect every still-supported overhaul mod to be modified to *at least* work with elevated rails. So SA is technically a mod, but it is not *just* a mod. It keys off of several pieces of functionality that are part of the DLC's executable. Things like belt stacking, spoilage, etc are all core engine changes that the DLC executable provides and the Space Age mod uses.
For factorio standards yeah basically just a big mod. For any other game, its a dlc. Very few games have the same modding community as factorio that develop mods that are equal, if not better, than the content the game developers themself make. Infact the modding community is so good they hire them. The creator of the space exploration mod is behind the space age DLC.
The devs f'edup by not doing closed beta a year ago. This 'closed beta' was just a dumb PR event for free advertising by entertainers. Which is the typical casual arrogance of the leadership there. Don't forget that this people make short videos (7 minutes is their goal) so those hundreds of reports will most likely be complaints about time involved and typical normie bitching that it's 'too hard'. Do not buy it for at least 6 full months due to the amount of bug fixes that are gonna take place!!
