Brad I know you hate the videos for these songs, but I feel like the deeper you get in, the more you are missing out on some Iconic moments in history. Zz top videos especially were 80s mtv eye candy.
@pleutron
@pleutron 2 года назад
I'm liking the more lyric vids. You get to actually pay attention to what's being said. And in some cases, find out just how terrible a popular song could be.
@_Common_Logic_
@_Common_Logic_ 2 года назад
Yeah, I hate music videos, but the unfortunate truth is that songs of this era were literally written to be "seen" on the shiny-new "MTV"... In most cases, they weren't "deep" and we didn't need to analyze the lyrics... I'm glad those days are over, but it's probably best to -listen- "watch" the song as the artist (or record company) intended. 😏
@rare_wulf9358
@rare_wulf9358 2 года назад
The 80’s were about mtv , when it came to music , especially if you were a teenager, meeting at a friends house and having MTV in the background, while having conversations
@Bob5mith
@Bob5mith 2 года назад
It's hard for somebody who doesn't know anything about the songs to know if the official video, or lyric video, or live video, or whatever that War Pigs video is, is the best to react to for the first time.
@WOranos
@WOranos 2 года назад
@@Bob5mith It's a good rule of thumb that if the song was released in the 80s, the video is worth a watch. Artists used to put a lot of effort into the video that accompanied their songs, and in some special cases, this produced some real visual gems. Imagine "Take On Me" or "Don't Come Around Here No More" without ever seeing the visuals that went along with these great songs. That's just plain tragic. The 80s was a decade of raw creativity and innovation for both music and video. They are cheating themselves by ignoring one over the other.

Great job, Lex, on catching that this vibe was more of an 80's feel. "La Grange" was a 1973 hit, and this one was in 1983. Although, I don't know how you thought this might be a different band. There's no mistaking ZZ Top's sound. Gimme All Your Lovin is probably my favorite of theirs.

Saw them the first time when a freshman in highschool Jan 1984, Night Ranger opened. I had only seen Black Sabbath/Quiet Riot, Ozzy, and ACDC. My best friend loved ZZ Top so I went with him not knowing what to expect . It was fantastic. The vibe was one big party with people dancing everywhere. The people in front of us bought us beers the whole night. It was def different than what I had experienced so far, but not any less awesome. RIP Dusty Hill

Lex, you hit the nail on the head again when you said this was like 80s, dance music. ZZ Top really evolved their sound in the 80s. They kept those signature guitar sounds and riffs, but the music became much more danceable, and their videos were amazing! They were one of the first bands to figure out the power of music videos, and they killed it on MTV (back when they played music videos, of course). Everyone was dancing to ZZ Top in the clubs!

The strangest thing about this band is that they were this Rock and Roll Boogie Woogie band with a heavy blues influence from Texas that suddenly dominated the Radio and MTV at the height of new wave and early hip hop era. They caught on to the new age of the music video right away and became Gigantic. If you ever watched the TV show Bones the guy who plays the father of the character named Angela is the one singing on most of their songs.

Life was a WHOLE LOT MORE FUN back then. Artists understood the value in innuendo. Music could manage to be raunchy but you rarely had to cover your kids ears when it played. Life as a whole used to be that way, but today music is not even tolerable 90% of the time. At least to me it isn't. Thankfully people started reacting to older music here on youtube, and it has been rather enjoyable watching people experience all of this old music as if it were completely new. To a certain degree we are experiencing it for the first time all over again - as if THAT made any sense at all. LOL
