Do you have a special blend or only subflower seeds in your feeder? I'm trying to add to the sugar water some seeds since there seem to be finches around. Bought one with all thistle seed and they did not go for it.
@@marinabrola i uses a mixed blend of shelled seeds. I have never tired adding sugar but I might be the only person in the area putting out seed so its a hot commodity
I have them outside my window all day long so I decided to get them a bird feeder and start taking video. Thank you for sharing facts about the lovely house finch.
I have quite a few House Finches in my car port, I presume nesting although I can’t see nests…I just know I have a male who loves the right side mirror on my car…he is always fluttering next to it as if he’s checking himself out…then, of course, he also deposits little poop morsels ☹️…thanks heavens she stays perched on my car’s antenna…
I do like them but they monopolize the feeders and let no other birds eat and want to finish them all unlike chickadees and titmice which take turns. I understand they’re not adapted for “to go” feeding but even if a chickadee comes very “politely” without disturbing, from the side and tries to take just one to go, they will chase them out 😞 I am not sure how to handle. Any suggestions appreciated. Apparently what they sell as “finch food” is incorrect as I too had figured. Yes, they too like the black oil sunflower seeds the best. They used to eat the “finch food” until I got the black oil sunflower seeds (which seems to be the most gourmet sought after for mostly all birds!) then they completely stopped eating “finch food” and only want the other! even with 2 stations they bully others and don’t let them eat. They just fight and go away or may even need to be chased out a bit if we want chickadees or others to have some too (unlike junco which is a bit better that way even though they’re not takeout eaters).
