Even if urine was somehow sterile, you still shouldn't drink it. It is about 3.3% sodium, which is almost as much as the sodium in the ocean. This means that drinking your urine wouldn't help with thirst. Instead, it would make you thirstier and die of dehydration.

@tomthebuilder794
@tomthebuilder794 Год назад
She’s not exactly wrong, heme iron, the type of iron found in your hemoglobin, differs from elemental iron in that heme iron is a molecule while elemental iron is an element. I really believe that if addiction was less stigmatized I would be in a much better place in my life.
@jovetj
@jovetj 6 месяцев назад
Addiction is a mental illness, and all mental illness needs less stigmatization. All of us have flaws and problems and we should be as understanding and caring as is practical with each other. Calm consideration and empathy go a long way. That being said, lots of addiction IS a choice because if you CHOOSE to put an addictive substance into you, you're choosing the (risk of) addiction. You can't choose your body's reaction to the substance, but you can (hopefully) choose whether it goes inside you in the first place. With drugs like acute pain relievers, it can be a profound and difficult choice to make. We all have different tolerances to pain and medicines, so there's no easy answer for everyone.

Well, on the eating and swimming "myth", I can attest to a real risk from my own experience: floating in the water did upset my stomach to the point of having urges to vomit while swimming. That is NOT safe.
@Leonard1977ful

That's one thing I wouldn't have considered. That is true. Everyone's bodies are different. Now, in my 40s, I have to wear Seaband wrist bands when traveling in vehicles because it can make feel dizzy. I don't like feeling drowsy after taking motion sickness pills. One thing that the video didn't mention is the fact for many people eating right after swimming can be dangerous when it's vigorous swimming, not light swimming. This was shown once on I believe ABC news, or one of the more national TV stations, when some reporters did an experiment with some teenage girls of a high school swim. They treated them to some McDonald's food and had the girls swim afterwards, just to see how they did. The girls did the experiment and all of them appeared to be fine. But they maybe they just ate until their stomachs were full, not stuffed. And you mentioned swimming right after eating upset your stomach, maybe also brought on by the motion of the water. In your case, it obviously isn't safe.

My mom told me I shouldn't stand in front of a microwave while it's being used for two reasons, it could always malfunction and burst open and possible radiation or something lol I don't know if I believed her but respected her enough to not do it :)
@craigjay6820
@craigjay6820 Год назад
There is some truth to that, as in microwaves can leak through the seaks on the door. It's why leak detection exists. But that's only applicable on older models that have wear and tear, as the hinge and seal deteriorate. So, generally microwave leaks will happen over time, but if you stand a little distance away, say 3 feet tops, the radiation will dissipate, as the wavelength is too weak to travel. The more you know 😇

I didn't think the "double" in double-jointed meant more joints, but more directions the given joints can bend in, which, it kind of is...

Whatever the case with our heads, I *cannot* have my hair down in warm weather. If it's not pinned up, I'm suffering. And getting it off the back of my neck is the only way to ameliorate it.

The hair myth likely comes from the fact that people start shaving before they complete puberty, and we naturally start to grow more hair during that period.

I actually had a 7th grade science teacher tell me that our blood is blue in our body because it hasn’t been exposed to oxygen 😭
@jovetj
@jovetj 6 месяцев назад
Well, it can look blue-ish through the skin. I mean, the veins in my forearms _look_ blue. That has been a VERY widespread myth, so it's not a surprise it's still being taught as truth.

@bassplayer6667
@bassplayer6667 Год назад
I'm not kidding when I say this, when I was in elementary school we were taught that human blood is blue before it reaches the heart and is oxygenated. Lol. That makes no sense. This wasn't too long ago, I'm old, but not ancient. Lol. 1992 or 93. But to think that's just one of the many things that we were taught that was completely wrong, and there is a ton, enough to write a book about, it absolutely blows my mind. So many things have changed just in the past 30 years. Even things they were teaching us in middle and high-school, a lot of it has been found out to be wrong, some ended up being backwards. It's mind-blowing, amazing, and also kinda frightening. Then again, in the state I live in, they no longer teach cursive writing. Which I find extremely sad and unfortunate. Gotta sign a contract or legal document, you have to sign and print your name. So guess this generation of kids are just supposed to figure it out on their own. When I had to write essays, cursive was mandatory. You would get a 0 if it was in print.

The reason you get sick in cold weather is because the cold can adversely affect a person's immunity system making it harder for the body to fight off viruses and bacteria.

Correction on the defibrillator and the heart: The heart has its own system that generates the electric signal needed to beat. It does not come from the brain. The Sinus node of the heart is responsible for this.

While the song one may be true, I will say that the ability to taste spiciness is limited by location on the tongue. Our Anatomy teacher demonstrated this. He had a student to close their eyes and dry their tongue out with a paper towel to prevent saliva transferring the flavor. He then applied a generous portion of hot sauce to the back of the tongue with no reaction. Then a sizable portion to the middle of the tongue with no reaction. Then just a drop or two on the tip. The student immediately recoiled and closed their mouth only to at that point taste all of the hot sauce that have been previously put on the tongue when they close their mouth and allowed the saliva to wet the tongue again

8:23 I actually need to be in the cold to not get sick. I can’t regulate my body temperature as well as other people but I also can’t tolerate heat. Even a space heater makes me sick. I need to be in the cold with access to blankets so I can control how much warmth is on my body. Summer is scary for me. I’ll be fine in the heat temporarily but longer exposure will make me sick and make my skin will itch and sting like hundreds of bug bites.
