FAHS Feilding High School 1st XV vs Lindisfarne College 1st XV
Lindisfarne College, Hastings.
Early start on Saturday for the trip north to Hastings, arriving in around 10:15. Few showers on the way up so we were expecting a heavy track at Lindisfarne. With more wet weather expected we found the ground in good condition and well grassed. The expected heavy rain never really fell which was a blessing.
We played into the breeze in the first half and scored early by a good try to Ben Fakava that included some good passing and offloads. A bit of weather came in and lots of play seemed to be played between both 22m lines as both sides were guilty of turning over possession. Lindisfarne replied with a penalty to Jack Britten and despite then getting into good position to score that final pass meant we missed out on a couple of scoring chances. A solid scrum base allowed a Mosese Bason to charge and draw defenders and to offload to Jack Delaney as we struck out to a 14-3 lead. Lindisfarne closed the gap through a bobbled ball from their lineout throw that saw William Turner crash through. 14-10 at halftime and the locals excited.
Second half was basic stuff from us. Keep ball in front of forwards with the strong breeze at our backs and have forwards carry strong and commit the defence. Tries to a rampaging Scott Gray (His first we think), Ezrah in the corner, Alani bullocking over, a tighthead led to debutant Nixon Foreman popping a short ball to Jack Delaney running into a gap and racing 35 metres into score. The industrious Lindisfarne halfback Tom Baines took a quick tap penalty to scoot in for a late try.
A good result in slippery conditions meant the delicious meal served following the match went down even better. Good to catch up with the Lindisfarne management and team to swap stories and news.
Bus ride home and our minds starting to turn towards the coming match against St Paul's at Johnston Park, Feilding on Saturday the 24th.
