if they only will use them in the olympic games and not these things... even a real normal epee is good, it's still better than the things they're using.
You're right and agree with you 100% but you don't have to complain to the guy and also it's kind of his choice if he wants to put that kind of music or not Not to say that on a rude way or anything😉 Why you still reading? -_- You must have clicked read more by now lol
***** To be honest i felt putting music over the track makes it more engaging, or at least less boring. It's always a gamble; as there will be people who like it and those who don't. I don't mind the criticism as long as it's critical and not an attempt to put down the video. As always i'll attempt to improve on the next video by looking at what people want (when i actually get the time to do another one that is), but i'll always do what i think is best.
I would just like to ask everyone to stop all these critical comments. Fencing, Kendo, HEMA etc are all different and have their own uniqueness and definition about what makes them special. This means that ONE IS NOT NECESSARILY BETTER THE OTHER! As a Fencer I would like to say to all the haters that Fencing has never been, and never pretends to be sword fighting. They are totally different. Fencing is an Olympic sport and is why it's actually known as Olympic Fencing and these comparisons to sword types and swordsmen of the past is pointless because of this. Appreciate the sport but, guys, please don't criticise something you don't understand or something different. :)
Jesse Morris This is true. I actually started with fencing, then kinda did some stage combat, and now all I really do is actual combat without killing (technically not HEMA, as that's regulated). Now, keep in mind that what I do is by no means safe, and I don't recommend it to many people. Non-leathal combat can still be very dangerous if either party does not know when to stop a strike, or if they screw up or any other whatever (very possible). But yeah. My point is that I've sampled different types of sword stuff, and they are fairly different. I just happen to like the thrill of (mostly) raw sword combat better.
+Mareșalul Alexandru Averescu. But these are facts that have already been conceded. Fencing does not purport to be anything other than a unique sport. You are not arguing against fencing you are arguing against the very concept of a sport. For something to be a sport it has to have rules, as soon as it has rules it no longer has anything to do with any non sport activity that it may have evolved from, that does not change the fact that it is an activity that people can enjoy.
I once saw someone try to counter a deep lunge, but retreated to far and fell flat on his back. Adding insult to injury, his opponent got the touch and won.
Having fenced when I was younger, I can tell you that it is an incredibly physically and mentally demanding sport. Most people don't see this, as it happens so incredibly fast, that they really can't see what's actually going on. Fencers plan a series of moves almost like chess, trying to force your opponent into position that they can not defend, and then execute them at lightning speeds, while reacting to your opponents defense. The first time you face a skilled fencer is a very humbling experience. And yes, it's not sword fighting, it's fencing, totally different things, that just kinda look the same.
the 0:34 which the fencers had their masks with the nation flag marked is like a international politic comic. Russia give a hug to China and China react with "WTF?"
it looks like the most dangerous part about this is if you match up on a raised platform... seriously, one misstep and your knee or ankle is toasted. Really should just paint lines on flat ground and not use that.
Mancub2489 another dangerous part is when someone is accidentally stabbed by the sword. If they get stabbed in the chest, that can be dangerous because the sword can sever an important vein/artery or can pierce their heart, causing people to bleed out and die.
From fencing, I've learned how to do something I never thought I could ever be capable and yet so incapable of doing... the splits. And to answer your question, it was NOT of my own volition :D
I get bullied at school for doing fencing :( they say that fencing is gay to me and all that crap. I don't know how to respond so I just watch these fencing videos :/
Jam Esloop That used to happen to me as well; 'fencing isn't a sport' they say. But I kept my head down and worked really hard. And now they respect me for it. Maybe you should should prove them wrong and show them some of the things fencers do?
Fencing is awesome, there was this kid who would tell me the same, but then he would ask me where I take the class, this indicates that he is was jealous,
Well... At least I am not the only one who does embarrassing things on strip! I fell down yesterday while fencing. Managed to win the bout, but still. Oh, and I got my helmet stuck in my hair! That was a first!
These look less like fails to me, and more like exciting turns of events. I think fencing is extremely fun to watch, and usually have a great time when I see things like this happen.
Actually once you fence for a while you get the feeling and know when you've been hit or have hit even if you can't see the tip of your weapon (like you know if you hit behind a person's back)
+Fireice Waterhorse....you missed the point of the post. They said it would be more exciting if the fencers got shocked. It has nothing to do with letting them know they have been touched, it has to do with the comedy of watching them jump around in pain.
Z. D.J. a guy says it would be funny if the fencers actually got shocked....then another guy says that he thinks they do get a shock...then you say that they don't, that the ref just stops them. Fine. Why wouldn't there be any sport if the fencers got shocked? How does it change anything about the sport..other than perhaps making the fencers be more cautious.
I have been fencing for around a year now and this shit is still insane to watch how fast they go because I usually move to the back of the lane and wait for my opponent to go first then wait till i see an opening like a miss placed grip or messy on guard.
I'm not a big fan of sports fencing, no disrespect intended, but it's great to see such sportsmanship displayed and a sense of humour in a lot of these clips :) Gotta admire the speed of the ... combatants?
Hi! I'm not very familiar with fencing... What are the different types? Why do they have different foils/sabers? And why is there not more blocking as opposed to just lunging and poking at your opponent? Please excuse my ignorance... I'm just curious and I don't know anything about this so any information would be great! Thank you! :)
Spartain418 there's 3 type of weapon; foil, epee (where you score points by "poking" your opponent) and sabre (where you score points by making contact with both point and edge of the blade contact on the target). All three have specific rules and differing styles so if you want to find out more, i highly reccomend looking them up online! ^^
1st one is O2jam OST - Toccata and Fugue (remix) Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (original) 2nd one is Dream a Dream by Captain Jack - original most frequently used troll music in team fortress community A Team fortress remix/version/parody is called - Rave Fortress.
This was interesting but left me with one overriding thought questioning the established methods: why would anyone design a fencing list on a RAISED PLATFORM? That just seems to be asking for trouble.
hmm, nice video, but seems nobody asked or answered this, but what is the music? I mean, I know this is a remix of a classical music, but I've been searching for the original and haven't been able to find it. You wouldn't happen to know the name of the music by any chance?
Good Drama, nice "happy" end. I did (foil) fencing for a long time and i quite enjoyed it, very much. This is what it makes so funny sometimes when you just go wild... *evilgrin* So, I was not offended by this vid.
The clip from the October NAC where Daryl Homer does a parry riposte on Eli Dershwitz in the finals and the light doesn't go off should be in this video.
What's with all the hate and one-upmanship? I do both sports fencing and historical fencing and love them both for what they are, instead of hating either of them for what they're not. Sports fencing is an athletically and technically demanding combat sport and I love it. Historical fencing is much more 'realistic' (except we don't tend to train with sharps) and requires different skills and techniques, and I love that too. Neither of them has to be 'the best'.
taj83 We're fucking humans. Many of us are relatively well off. This little aggression is amusing, and of no harm. Let us have our fun(most of us can't take it to the piste due to distance, but if we could, we'd be alot friendlier).
People comparing fencing vs HEMA. Kind of like apples and oranges. Fencing is about striking first, HEMA is about striking safely. The comparison is kind of like the one between Judo and MMA. Judo is a sport more than a fighting style. In a real fight, judo's practicality is limited (seeing as there are no rules) while MMA is more akin to a real right. Fencing is a sport more than a swordfight. The competitors aren't worrying so much about if their strike is safe, more so that their strike will land first. In HEMA fencing, blows struck from a safe position are worth more points to the judges and are, obviously, more desirable. Personally, I find HEMA to be more interesting but both are legitimate and difficult as a skill curve can clearly be seen from beginner up to master. This is RU-vid: if you want a HEMA video, go find one.
What you said about judo being a sport and having it being not as affective in a real fight is absolutely mma fanboy bull crap judo in it’s real form is no holds bart and completely effective also mma is mixed martial arts Ronda Rosey uses judo mma fighters use mma
most of these has happened to me at some point and in some form...:P I think if you fence long enough it just happens! falling, leaping, running into people... I just thank god I'm not a dude. Fencing is not a sport that is kind to the family jewels...
They can, but most don't, even at world champs. I guess it must be uncomfortable... Fencing breeches are thick enough to ensure you can bear children someday, but it'll still hurt like a bitch if you're hit. back when i started fencing, my aim wasn't so good and i spent many training sessions apologizing while the guy rolled around swearing. Still was kinda funny though (for me, not the guy...). It happens...
+Caroline Kemp Aye same with me :) all the guys in my club who fenced me kept joking about where I aim my blade cause for some reason, everytime i aimed at the torso I'd hit the inner thigh. Been hit in the throat once actually....
0:54....not a fail...touch registered well before the fall...and you can see the ref awarding the touch. I put this link on Sergei Golubitsky's Facebook page and teased him about stepping on Elvis' foot. And one thing I like about Mariel Zagunis...as soon as Olga fell off the strip, Mariel came over to help...before Olga even stopped bouncing. The Bachmann fall looked like a NASCAR crash...on the other hand, it gave Weßels a medal, since he subbed in for Bachmann for a single touch,..and that qualified him to GET a medal when Germany won the match. Lastly...Mr, Kim at 5:46....REALLY? You just hit him in the nads and you kick his ass??
Antipodean33 1998 World Championships, Gold medal bout between Sergei Golubitsky (left, defending champ) of Ukraine vs Elvis Gregori of Cuba. Sergei already had a yellow card (warning) for a rules infraction earlier in the bout. A subsequent yellow for an other infraction would be a red card -- a point awarded against him. In this action, he'd come forward and accidentally stepped on Elvis' foot...a corps-a-corps (body contact) violation, which would've been a yellow card, and thus, a red card against him. The prayerful pose and hugging Elvis was a gamble to influence the ref and not get the card....and it worked. Sergei ended up winning his 2nd world championship 15-13, but had he gotten a red card for the corps-a-corps there's a chance Elvis might've pulled off the win.
last one was the one does that often happens to me but i don´t like the armor for the nuts (don't know how to say that in english) because it bothers me
My friend tried to fleche into my low invitation, ran balls first into my blade in epee, then earlier in foil lunged as he tried to jump so he got hit there already. Guess I hate him secretly.
They were pretty obvious. Someone fell off the stage, someone fell into the splits, someone ran and hugged the opposition, someone jumped into another guy, someone got stabbed in the balls and when he fell to the ground he was kicked by the other guy.
in the first one, they both thought they had hit, but no lights went off so they were confused ((so to say)) and since they stopped, the ref gave them a yellow card
