I’m proud to say I’ve held this job for almost six months, a record. Still no driving license yet, but every month I feel like my capacity to endure stress has increased.

It's a very natural and commonsense idea that if you feel overwhelmed or easily stressed, you should hang out in a place where you feel secure and comfortable, and your strength and resilience will build up, enabling you to tackle difficult situations again. Unfortunately, this approach seems to have the reverse effect: it makes people more easily triggered by stress and less tolerant of adversity, failure experiences, and so on. When people actually get out of their comfort zone it usually is, no surprise, uncomfortable. But by staying in a new situation long enough, it becomes not-so-new and not-so-threatening, and is absorbed into the comfort zone - or at least the more-comfortable-than-before zone. The best way to build muscle is to use the muscle; the best way to build stress resilience is to face stress.

This is difficult to offer, as client situations are kept strictly confidential. What I can say is that with treatment young adults are entirely able to move forward in their lives. The nature of this difficulty is that the doors are open, they simply have not been walked through. Working with family members is often extremely helpful, as they have sometimes inadvertently set up significant disincentives to independence and self-care. Shifting their support from dependence (eg duty-free allowances) to independence (eg reimbursement for course completions), and without simply "cutting off" support, can be very effective ways of helping a young adult create a more sustainable life.

Someone linked your channel in a NEET forum. I will be exploring the work you have posted online here and on your website - it seems much of it is aimed at clinicians or parents. Is there anything in particular you recommend for the persons struggling to get unstuck? I think this material can be helpful regardless of intended audience, just wondering if you have in mind a recommended starting place for the delayed individual. Thanks!

I would start here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KvG2xsff9Y0.html Then look for the Hikikomori/FailureToLaunch Playlist on the site and possibly start with the oldest first. There is probably over 3 hours of material on the subject by now, but some of it will obviously be pitched to pros or family members. I have just done bits and pieces on the subject, so it's not an integrated whole. I would like to develop a relatively complete self-guided "course" on the subject especially for young adults working their way out of this situation, but I'm afraid that doesn't exist quite yet.
