One of my pics I posted on Ravelry (I am HillbillyStitcher) was showing how I kept forgetting, over-and-over-and-over, to bring my silly purl yarn back behind. It was funny and also dragged out my time spent on the band. I do adore the look and the feel of this "corrugated" ribbing. Some were discussing how it got the name "corrugated" but if you look at the "wave" appearance from the edge it is like what you see in a corrugated tin roof or the inner piece of corrugated cardboard.

If you want to be able to knit continental very easily, take a little time and learn to crochet. It will comme to you quickly, it really will. You don't have to spend a lot of time with it just single crochet will do it. I decided to learn continental and after spending twenty years as a thrower, I couldn't believe it when after just a day or two of fumbles it took off. Years later I was watching HRH Elizabeth Zimmerman and she was talking about first learning to knit and how she was able to learn continental quickly and knit with speed pretty quickly because she had learned crochet first. That was my AHA moment because picking is pretty much simply crocheting with a knitting needle.

YAY! Thank you so much, Jana. You're the first (and only, so far) person who's described and shown this to where I understand it. I've done 2-color stranded knitting before with one color in my right and the other in my left. Just hadn't done a K1P1 rib. I'm not a continental knitter either but that type of stranding is my kinda-sorta take on continental knitting. I was ready to give up on this pattern (Hedgerow Fingerless Mittens), but you've saved the day -- and the mitts! And, I'll be heading back over to Ravelry to check out your other good stuff. Thanks again!

Very helpful! I slowed the speed to 75% so I could follow your stitches more easily.

This is a GREAT video. Thank you for sharing! You rock! Also - about how much stretch does this stitch have? I want to do a collar this way but I’m nervous about it not having enough stretch. Lmk! :)
@PurlTogether

It's not as stretchy as regular ribbing because the yarn floats across the back prohibit too much stretch.

Thanks for this tutorial! I was wondering whether the principals of color dominance hold true in corrugated ribbing (whether the contrast color ribbing would "pop" more if the background color/main color strand is carried on top/held dominant. Looks like that's how you did it but I've seen other corrugated ribbing demos where the dominance was opposite/not carrying the purl strand in top, so I'm guessing color dominance doesn't matter as much as long as you're consistent - since it's ribbing and the knits will pop most anyway?

Total beginner with Fair Isle. Pattern calls for K2 P2 ribbing, 2 colors. The Purl stitches leave bumps, and the knit stitches are smooth. On the pattern photo it looks smooth, like all stockinette. What to do with the purls? I am lost.

I'm not sure if you're knitting the Harriet's Hat pattern or another, but trust the written pattern, not the photo. With the hat I'm demonstrating with in the video, the purls are there, but the yarn is dark, so they're harder to see.

The beginning of the pattern is simply the cast-on of your choice and then the beginning of the ribbing. I most often use the long tail cast on. You can see a tutorial video for that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bILr2mLfZLE.html
