Fair Use & Copyrights 

I like the idea to be able to copyright something, wanting to make money in and of itself is not greed. Wanting to and attempting to make LOTS of money is not greed. That being said, I will agree there is a limit and there are some companies that cross a line trying to limit fair use.

@jboyko3 Countries like Mexico(100 years), Germany, Switzerland(because he created the Berne convention), Mainland China, Colombia(80), Honduras(75), Ivory Coast and Guatemala don't apply the shortest deadline rule(70 years after creator's death). Besides, thanks to the globalization, all events could be known. So, the countries mentioned above can bury/inform a copyright infringement.

Hello. My seven year old daughter is a drummer. She has seven youtube video's playing along with songs she likes. She just tried to upload another one and the audio has been muted for copyright violation. Okay, so help me understand why there are dozens of other video's of guitarist playing the exact same song. Why aren't their video's muted? Why are there thousands of video's of musicians playing with copyrighted songs? You can send a private message, but SHE'S only seven!

UMC has issued a copyright dispute for one of my vids. A edited compilation of a movie and song in a "movie preview" form. I made the video to pay homage to the song and movie as well as asking for critique of my editing abilities. Everything used is entact short of the movie being shortened by clips, meaning the movie is summerized in the amount of time it takes for the song duration. They dispute the song but the video has not been removed because they don't own the copyright to the movie.

Modest fee means $122.57 per material checked. I checked it out a few months ago.

Yeah, thanks from the help from both you folks. I decided to bite the bullet and try anyways and I haven't gotten in trouble for animating characters in a parody neither. ;-) I guess all is good because I drew them from scratch and used royalty free music.

As it would be used for educational purposes, I believe the answer is yes.

What about composed before 1922? I have been having problems with a video using Richard Wagners Ride of the Valkyries. It was composed in 1870, but it's been recorded numerous times since. I was wondering if that may be why I'm having problems.

id like to know how copyright and fair use works when it comes to capturing video game footage that you captured. as i have thought i was within my rights to do something but youtube removed it.

2 questions: 1: what happens if you bought the song and put the CD in your computer? i put the song Fireflies in and my video is only viewable in Germany 2: what if you ABSOLUTELY cannot buy the song because of where you live? I wanted a song 2 use in a video, so i had to download it, i now have 3 of the same song on my computer and they are all copyright into youtube, plz answer both of my questions! its confusing

Google/ RU-vid makes money with all there ads they place over and under our videos yet some say they are violating the law by doing so because we never see that money.

What I want to know is, say I was filming at an Air show, well they play music..Is that considered fair use since I am not putting the music in my video at will, but being subjected to use it??

I put a song into my end credits and I gave full credit to the owner of the song. I'm not really familiar with copyright laws and I was just wondering if I can get a strike for this or not.

If I wanted to use a recording from 1922 or before in a video, would that recording be in the public domain? I read somewhere that recordings are of a completely different variety than sheet music. Also, if recordings are off limits, does that mean I could do my own cover of a song from before 1922 and it would not be copyright? This video says that anything recorded after 1922 is protected, but the other thing I read threw me off.

IBetYouwillFemales Has a point. The videos usually have to be reviewed before they can be monetized right? so doesn't that mean youtube initially approved?

I know it is illegal to use copyrighted music in a wedding video. But is it legal to use a remixed version of the song that I make in the wedding video?

What do you mean in that you recorded the music? As to how to bought the DVDs you're using and don't make money off of it, unfortunately that doesn't make it fair use. For example I've used songs that I bought legally in videos and those videos were taken down, and I've also read that just because you buy it, doesn't give you the right to upload it.

I have a question: I want to continue making videos with movies and underline the video with music and then upload them. I am not sure if I am allowed to do that or not...I recorded all the music, I did not download them illegal, and I bought all of the dvd's I am using..and I don't get money for what I am doing..is this then just "Fair Use" ?!

two of my videos have been removed. one because '' Rejected (content inappropriate)'' i have no idea why. i cant ask youtube a question or write a claim. the second was blocked because of a copyright claim from the owner. again its a spoof. i changed the ending of the movie in a humours way. i assumed this falls under fair use as well. in this case i wrote in a claim and now i wonder if i could have.....little youtube guy versus big movie house? :( im doomed arnt i?!

okay i edited 3 videos taken from my camera and added some music BUT 2 of them uses the full song they have and 1 doesnt. will i have any problems with facebook if i upload them? im only 16 and this was my 1st time editing videos, so i have NO idea what will happen.

Type in Mario, or Sonic-and see the monetized videos that have billions of views. I'm not talking about "Let's Play" I'm taking about the ones using those copyrighted characters for fanmade stuff like trailers or cartoons. How are they getting away with it? ..I don't get it. :-(

What about people who dress up an audio track from a UFO conference with their own graphics and then claim copyright ? The data i.e. the sound track, was never theirs and just because they prettied it up with some pictures is it now theirs?

Recording the music with a program..like you open a video on youtube, then you start recording and let the video play till the end.. then you have the song and it's legal in germany! I guess making videos with movies and upload them is never legal :D But its sad though..

What about pictures? I made a video of me singing a song (fair use, I made it myself) but used a picture from the game I was singing the song of.... Is that okay? Sheesh this stuff is all so complicated lol.

I had a short clip of vancouver Olympic Ceremony recorded from my camcorder of me booing a country off my t.v and it was gone in seconds.

Can we have a video that relates to normal people! Like I doubt anyone can just walk up to an artists house and say hey can I borrow your work? Or go to the governors office and have him give me his blessing I really doubt they would care in the first place.Or sorry I just dont have hook ups to get a highschool choir to sing for me also.This video is bullshit! As long as your not selling it what is the big deal? I dont mind if ads come on my videos cause I know someone has to get paid
