I do! That's the fun part of it. I grew riding buses you that could hear from two blocks away and blowing black, grey and white smoke with the smell of diesel fumes inside. Ah !! fun times.

What did they replace them with? IC REs (second most popular REs after Thomas)? Or did they score more HDXes (which are still made)? One of the best places to "bus watch" is the Pan Am Shopping Center - you have FCPS and the parochial contractors (primarily Williams Bus Service) passing through the shopping center itself, Nutley Street (both directions) and the US 29/Virginia 237 (Lee-Jackson Highway) duplex (also both directions). Williams Bus has mostly conventionals (surprisingly, mostly IC and Amtran conventionals), where FCPS went the other way (their IC and Amtrans are primarily transits). The reason the HDX is a popular transit is due to both capacity reasons in terms of passengers (even Prince George's County has some - and they have no transits EXCEPT their Saf-T-Liner HDXes) and stowage capacity (sports teams - especially football and basketball). Contractors can have a mix - however, I do remember ONE contractor (a small one - Middledorf Bus here in Accokeek, MD) that used to be exclusively transits - in fact, Saf-T-Liner ERs - four of them). While the ER and HDX are both transits (and both have rear-mounted engines) they DO differ (rather substantially) from each other - which is why the HDX is still around (while the ER is DOA).
