I totally agree except I don't think she is a light lyric...to me that's Tiny from Xscape, Letoya Luckett, Amber Riley...the voice sounds to "womanly and round." Her voice is as warm and rounded as Lisa Fischer...LF is just more technically refined.

Faith is a soprano but the issue is her technique to singing. She’s a singer who had a very light voice but also a husky voice. The range is still there but she doesn’t singing with an even mix. She tends to push her chest and belt out a lot of her notes. That’s vocally draining on any soprano rather they are a high or low soprano. Vickie was a soprano but the issue is like you said her pushing her voice wayyy too hard. Most sopranos in that time tried to belt and wail out everything and that’s something that drains and strains the voice. Not learning how to evenly mix or use a lighter placement or just head voice which is why those same sopranos who belt out and sing with a more chest dominant placement don’t have the strongest head voice when singing.

I'm torn but I feel her tessitura is too high for Mezzo. Her larynx was dropped nearly all of the 3rd octave and C5 sounded way too easy for her an lacked heft. Same with D5 and E5 so if you ask me she was close to her passagio implying she's a Soprano. It might explain why her voice blossomed around F5 / G5. All things considered, her vocal break and middle voice sit too high so from a classical standpoint she would be considered a soprano imo

Ive just always likened a soprano to be well adapt in the uppermost part of their voice and Ive never got that from Aaliayh but hey thats just my ears. Maybe ive listened and missed something.

Where does Faith have a light and bright voice? Its full and heavy. If Faith is a Lyric then Karen Clark Sheard is a Coloratura soprano and she is not. If Faith is in fact a soprano, she would be a Dramatic. I still think she is more of a mezzo soprano. Examples: - Coloratura Soprano: Minnie Ripperton, Bunny Debarge, Denise Williams. - Lyric Soprano: Tremaine Hawkins - Spinto Soprano: Tamar Braxton, Karen Clark Sheard(Karen also can be more dramatic).

Faith Evans is more of a lyric mezzo soprano. Most well trained mezzo sopranos such as ; Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and Yolanda Adams were also well-known mezzo sopranos and they did not thin out pass G5. In fact, Aretha Franklin , in her prime, had the agility and flexibility to sing a F6. It's all in training.
