I feel like Daniel’s resistances to Sean is such a good way to show just how thankless being a parental figure can be. You feel like you sacrifice so much for your kid/the person you’re taking care of and it’s so hard for them to ever see just how much you’re doing for them. Which just makes Sean’s actions so much more powerful and heartbreaking.
The conversation with Karen is the moment I've been waiting for because I really wanted to hear your perspective on this. I always had trouble really understanding where the mom was coming from with walking out on her family. My dad did that, and it was selfish, and it was always hard for me personally to see it as some sympathetic thing.
That moment when Sean screams "FUCK" alone in the car is one of the standout moments in the whole game. Idk why it hits so much for me - the scene beforehand certainly makes me emotional as well - but after everything Sean has gone through I guess that scream just feels so raw and real.
I can feel his frustration through the screen during that scene, its heartbreaking. There's no other way to react when you come across people like that. You feel hopeless :(
i think it hit me so hard because i've screamed the exact same thing with the same force in my own car. i know exactly how he feels and it's crushing, that part always makes me tear up.
such a great episodes that covers so many social issues: family, faith, forgiveness, deception, and our obligation to social roles/norms imposed on us by society
3:08:53 I know you wanted Daniel to do something, and a lot of people get upset that Sean doesn't fight back, but the whole point was for Sean to convince Daniel without violence, to show that the church and Lizbeth were no good so he kept letting them beat him, showing his brother what was happening, and Lizbeth is good at manipulating people, Jacob says this at one point, and Daniel is super young so he's an easy target hence it took so long for him to snap out of it.
i really love how diligent you are in exploring this game, i really appreciate it because i'm discovering things i've never seen before while watching!
Seeing Sean battered and beaten this episode is so heart wrenching and painful. But his drive to be that guardian and adult figure for Daniel till the end shows his resilience and perseverance to overcome adversity time and time again. While he might be the only protagonist in the LiS games that didn't get any superpowers, he for sure is my favorite and I can't wait to see the conclusion to your journey with the Diaz boys.
i have a sister who turned religious she didn't talked to my mother and me for 25 years. some tiktok influencers have the same power on people's brain, like a powerful drug.
The reason Sean is looking around the car is because he’s thinking of Daniel… he feels alone for the first time and the music playing in the background while Sean is driving is also from episode one when Sean is telling Daniel a story on the bus.
I remember saying something quite similar to a friend of mine who was having issues with his mother, and I told him, it’s better to have a mom now than not have one at all. We only got one mom and one dad, we can hate on them all we like, but at some point we have to let that anger and resentment go, because it won’t reflect too good on us by carrying that said anger. I resented my father for years for leaving out on me and my mom, I know where he is and how he is, but I’ve learned to let my feelings go. I can’t go on further in life being upset at someone for not doing his job.
Great video Maggie and Sean really took some beatings in this one😳. I don’t know who Sean’s voice actor is, but I the story at the beginning of each episode, the way he uses animals in the story and as some of the characters he meets along the way, it’s so clever and the way he tells it is by far my favourite part of each episode. See you on the next one👍.
The amount of times Sean got brutally beat this episode 😔. I have trouble watching this episode and thinking Daniel is absolutely old enough to understand what's going on seeing his brother, someone who clearly sacrificed so much for him, getting his skull cracked in front of him.
Remember cults like this are very good at even manipulating smart adults, so manipulating a vulnerable child and twisting Sean’s choices to seem “sinful” was very easy especially as Daniel was like longing for safety and settlement. It’s definitely annoying but I don’t think I can hate Daniel for it
@af2954 I get that children can be easy to manipulate but he's 10 at that point, and he's only been there for 60 days, maybe? He recognizes that he caused Sean to lose his eye the first time they meet, and that obviously he's been looking for him and still loves him. Confused or not, I can see a grown man caving my brother's skull in with a gun and see he needs help. Is two months enough to forget that? Idk, maybe you're better than me, but I'm still not convinced he couldn't have done something earlier.
@@frootloopmilkI know it seems obvious to us, but these cults specialize in manipulation. All the adults in that cult leave their families behind, and Daniel is especially impressionable and vulnerable making him the easiest possible target. Lisbeth hid the fact that Sean was in a coma or that Karen tried contacting to show Daniel they did not care, she forced him to assimilate to her awful cultish desires. If Jacob’s parents can be manipulated to believe Sarah will heal her pneumonia through prayer, Daniel can certainly get manipulated to believe that Sean is evil. At 10 years ago, he is just a little child, probably stunted too because of all the trauma he’s endured, I don’t understand how you can say his age at 10 should be mature enough to realize he’s been pulled into a cult. In not trying to argue at all, I’ve just seen terrible cases of people getting pulled into cults, and the manipulation is hypnotizing, it’s extremely scary.
@@frootloopmilkalso, it’s not at all about being better than you or not, it’s simply how these cases go. Sean was away from Daniel for more than 2 months, more than enough time to assimilate Daniel. Daniel acting like this is very grounded in reality. Of course, like you said, he does truly feel guilty and loves Sean, but like Jacob, they’re using his guilt to make him ‘atone for his sins’ something even Jacob believes he needs to do to this day (because even Jacob, a grown man who’s lives away for months, is still affected by lisbeth’s manipulation). And because of the way she portrayed Sean and Karen, he might even have a false sense of betrayal. Hope this makes sense but it’s okay if not
3:13:00 - That's because the majority of people don't understand how addictive a cult of religion can be. My biological mother lost her children because she gave most of her money to her church, and she STILL goes to the same church today. We ended up living with our father. So, if a middle aged woman with a bachelor's degree can't wrestle herself free from the jaws of religion after losing her kids, a 9 year old child who found a mother figure, stability, friends and a home has almost no shot. TBH, the only reason why I believe he went with Sean is because they had to move the story forward. IRL, Daniel probably would have been a goner.
Please react to the endings of this games once you’re done, if you can and want to (there’s 7 different endings!) They’re so worth watching and I’m sure we’d love watching! Thank you for these reactions, I look forward to these every time you post(:
I just want to say I love your streams 💘 you probably hear that a lot I enjoy watching you through my days and may I say you are very very beautiful thank you for the content. 👍 Keep up all the good work 👍❤️🙏❤️🙏🌹
You have to learn To stop giving in to the ppl who don’t have the same skin tone as sean. I swear you can try to be respectful and they still degrade him
It's nice to see how emotional you get during these videos, lots of other people who do recorded playthroughs only get emotional at the obvious big things. Makes me more invested watching someone else feel this strongly about these characters as well.
I've been really enjoying this playthrough so far because of how thorough you have been with everything and I look forward to watching this episode! I also think it would be really cool if you end up reacting to each ending this game has as they are all very different and they each add so much story into them whether you were wanting to do this at the end of episode 5 or in a completely different video after you finish the game. There is a video of each ending on the official Life is strange RU-vid channel in case you wanted to watch them.
I love how the titles of each episode perfectly encapsulate their themes, both internal and external. Roads was all about the forking paths we encounter in life, and the people you meet along the way that can either be good or bad. Rules was about the brotherly rules/rules of the wild vs. societal rules, and how you have to act differently depending on the setting. Wastelands was a great exploration of living off the grid in a place half tame and half wild, with Sean and Daniel's relationship in the balance. Faith is about not just religious faith, but also the faith and trust you have to place in people when it's extremely hard to do so, especially after being wounded in some way. And of course Wolves is about not just Sean and Daniel, but their mother who is a wolf in her own right and invites them back to her den before they make the rest of the journey that will forever define them.
I think the thing about this episode that really rings home for me is a saying I heard that there's very little in the way of unforgiveable crimes, but there are plenty of unforgiveable betrayals. A person can reform, they can see the error of their ways, they make amends, they can learn, they can break away from their indoctrination, but they can't undo the past or take away the hurt they caused someone, especially not to someone whose only mistake was trusting them. What Karen did was much worse to Sean and Daniel than it sounds on paper. To those two, it shattered their world. There's little justifying that can be done that would hold up to them.
I don’t agree with Karen on her abandonment, I do only understand partly When she said this world is full accident, injustice, pain That’s all truth Her abandonment can’t be justified but all we do is go through life, hardships and that’s when we chose to learn and do life with what we have learned and experienced I enjoy your game play so much! This life is strange series gets me at my heart strings, gets me in a loop
You were SO close to leaving that hospital without any issues if you just used that towel bar to open the window lol. As far as everything else, there's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said, this was a "rough" game to play and it's a rough one to watch someone else play, it's very heavy and they put Sean through the ringer every episode. I do have to give you props for standing firm on your choices and why you choose them regardless of what anyone says, can't wait for the last episode.
Oh, and talking to Finn doesn't allow him to come with you or anything. But it's a nice bit of dialogue. Basically he apologizes and you can choose whether or not to forgive him. So, Finn realizing that his actions were wrong is also a key component of his character. I'm not defending what he did, but he was literally raised in a family where it was normal to do crimes. It was what they did *as* a family. And when they got caught the lesson he took from it - because he was a kid - wasn't that they shouldn't have been doing it, but just that his dad should have been loyal (which is certainly still true). I think he sees a lot of himself in Daniel, and thinks of it like that time with his own family: they do crimes together, but as long as they're loyal everything will be okay. It's very flawed thinking, and I totally get people disliking him, but he's a well rounded character all the same.
Finn's father raised his children to be criminals. Children are the product of their environment. Finn's father could of chosen to do criminal behavior like Merrill and hid it from his children to protect them. But instead he was selfish and chose to include his children in criminal behavior, putting them at risk. Throwing his children under the bus for deeds he committed was despicable and cowardly. I Didn't agree with Finn pitching the heist idea in front of Daniel for obvious reasons. I also didn't hate Finn, since I knew his backstory from the previous conversation with Sean. With that information in mind, it's easier to understand the choices Finn makes.
@Lady_Yunalesca I've watched several playthroughs and most said Nope! I'm not talking to Finn. Wanted nothing to do with him lol. I completely understand and respect the reasoning behind the decision. I chose to speak with Finn, even forgive him since I knew his backstory situation. His behavior still upset me greatly, but I could understand his motivations. I'm always fascinated with characters that are hated for whatever reason. There is always a reason why people do the things they do. Often the reasons are obvious. Other times making an effort to understand those reasons requires empathy. A mystery can't be solved if one doesn't risk exploring it.
i just finished your life is strange 1 play through and fell in love with ur channel so fast. i seriously recommend playing before the storm if you havent already. its so good and getting to know rachel is emotional asf.
I like that they finally got to see Karen. I think both Sean and Daniel needed answers from her. Holding onto hatred is never a good thing, and hopefully, her being there now will lead to a better future for all of them. I was raised Catholic, but I'm agnostic these days. I know how it is to lose faith. Jacob is a good guy. I'm glad he came back into the story and could save his sister. I am reminded of a quote, "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her." - John 8:7 -11 Bible I believe what that verse means is that we are all flawed. None of us are perfect, and we should not be quick to condemn others.
i do not sympathise with karen but what i love about watching your lis playthroughs especially is getting to hear your thoughts and your perspectives about all that happens in these beautiful games!!
Im so excited because ive never seen this part of the game onwards! I watched jacksepticeye play it years ago but he was very honest about his dislike for the game and i just couldnt bear to finish the playthrough knowing he wasn’t going to enjoy it and therefor i wouldnt either. You seem to really enjoy this game and im loving this playthrough so im soooo excited to see how it ends after all these years
Jacksepticeye refuses to play the other lis games because he dislikes the franchise it’s wild😭 I couldn’t finish his lis2 playthrough either given how much I love this game
I'm not sure what set you off 🥲 at the church when the mom came or you was at your wits end with Daniel or it was just allergies😁 if it was the game Life Is Strange just does that to you it wouldn't be a LIS game if there wasn't some emotions playing it.
43:33 I always get a chuckle during this part of the game. I've watched several playthroughs. All but one chose to either involve Joey, or ambush the guard. Both which require you to assault someone. There's usually always a non violent stealth option in choice games. Though it may not always be immediately obvious. Unless it's a timed event, which is not the case in Sean's situation. You can take as much time as you need to explore other options, the key word being explore. What makes the situation more amusing, is while Sean is sitting on the bed. He's literally staring at the solution for his escape lol.😅
I love your play through of this so far! I wonder if you'll play LIS true colors at some point on this channel. LIS Double Exposure is set to be released October this year as well so would love to see you play it! Anyway, you're one of my favorite youtubers/gaming channels as your playthroughs are insightful and very fun to watch. Keep it up!
Love the LiS playthroughs, but just wanna pop in to say that BtS and TC are not nearly as devastating as this one. They’re made by a different developer and while they have their intense moments for sure, I don’t think they are as crazy as this one. Just don’t want this game to put you off playing the other ones soon cuz I think you’ll really like them. Just make sure you watch your LiS 1 videos before returning to Arcadia Bay! Anyway, enjoy the end of this one, it’s a doozy!
oh boy here we go...this is probably the most intense but also frustrating episode...because the religion hits the fan...and we have to deal with that believer bullsh%$ whether or not Cassidy is mad at you in that letter depends on the choices you made...same with Finn. Agent Flores does actually mean well...but unfortunatley she is bound by the law...and if you made certain choices like stealing along the way you only made things harder on yourself. this is where you kind of bit yourself in the ass if you stole stuff.
Heaven with a gun. What is wrong with this picture? This is real explosive drama Maggie-I can't wait to see what happens next! must have missed something. Who is Jacob and how would he have gotten Sean's mother's address to write her about Daniel's location in Nevada?
@@mylife1221 I assume it’s an Easter egg, after a couple minutes of research, I saw they hired someone to voice the witch, Ellen McLain, otherwise known as the voice for GLaDOS.
What a great episode. Their mom is one of my favorite LiS characters, she’s extremely well characterized and human. As always your thoughts and experiences with the episodes are so interesting to hear!
6:25 Daniel is a nine year old child looking for acceptance. Right or wrong, Finn gives him that. Daniel is a blank slate. Whatever you do or say, even if Daniel isn't next to you gets recorded. It determines cause and effect for Daniel's behavior. Ideally Daniel shouldn't have been exposed to an illegal pot farm. Even Merrill knew this and kept his daughter safely away from what he did. Did Cassidy and Finn play a role into Sean's decision for ending up there? I'm certain it did. Did everyone working at the pot farm get treated fairly? Of course not, it's an illegally pot farm. Folks there are hiding from something, so who would they complain to? The heist goes down regardless of choices. How the variables play out depends on past, current choices and decisions. It's an awful situation to be in for young folks. Though Finn can be killed in one scenario. He didn't in your playthrough, so no one died. The emphasis being no one died, so there's that.
Anyone else find Daniel really annoying? I really loved this game and its story, but having to deal with Daniel was a real struggle for me:-) I know he's a kid, but man...🙂 And don't even get me started on Karen...That whole dialogue sequence in the motel was truly unbearable for me. But anyway... Also, the amount of explaining it took to convince Daniel to leave with Sean is insane, considering everything they went through. Daniel watching his brother getting beat up?
Honestly I didn’t, I was actually surprised how tame he was given the stuff he went through but maybe that’s just the older sister in me😭 especially since he’s 9 and has gone through unimaginable trauma and guilt, and still finds ways to apologize and laugh in every episode.
I mean, the thing about cults is that it's extremely hard to break people out of that mindset. It works on smart adults, and certainly children. Daniel has been on the run, scared, angry, feeling alone. His power has caused just as many problems as its solved. So when he's brought to this woman that says his power is good, that it makes him chosen, and she provides him with a stable environment...it's not remotely surprising that he falls prey to her manipulation when he's been in her care for months. And you're certainly meant to feel frustrated on Sean's behalf. But I think Daniel's reactions are quite realistic.
@@Lady_Yunalescathis exactly! It’s difficult to realize how scary and manipulative cults like this can be, especially for a vulnerable children like Daniel
