the angel dust album among other points had some of the most original arrangements and melodies that it easliy qualifies as one of the greatest albums of all time
Totally Agree! Everyone of these so called musical artists around today should be forced to listen to Angel Dust over and over until they understand song writing. Definitely in my top 10 albums of all time. If I'm ever stranded on a desert Island I'd better have this album to listen to.
I believe this is a thing his Dad would say to him, as he pushed him in football. IIRC this song is about his Dad (coach) who was super hard on him and drove the love of the sport out of him.
Angel Dust is a masterpiece. One of the greatest "Alt Metal" records, and so much more than that. This is one of the best songs on it, maybe even the best.
I have just right now discovered Faith No More and Mike Patton with this video. My jaw was dropped the entire song the sheer talent is shocking my system I cannot WAIT to delve into their entire discography!!!
C'mon The underrated RV, along with the melodic Midnight cowboy at the end? It was their best album and dare I say Pattons best album until Peeping Tom. But he makes me feel ghey so I may be biased lol.
It was the darkest of times. I had just received news that my left arm which was injured during a trip to the Antarctic, required a little known medical procedure. For some reason this song was playing during the surgery and has stayed with me ever since. It still makes my little finger on my right hand tingle. 😮
Agreed... I remember when this video premiered on MTV during the fall of “92; it was an event, the station even hyped it a bit, but with grunge, alternative rock and gangsta rap in full swing, we were in the land of the giants then, and it must’ve been tough to see the forest for all the tall trees. Still, this song was one of my favorites from the year.
A hierarchy Spread out on the nightstand The spirit of team Salvation is another chance A sore loser Yelling with my mouth shut A cracking portrait The fondling of the trophies The null of losing Can you afford that luxury? A sore winner But I'll just keep my mouth shut It shouldn't bother me But it does The small victories The cankers and medallions The lips on my face They keep me thinking that someday I might beat you But I'll just keep my mouth shut The little nothings It shouldn't bother me But it does IF I SPEAK AT ONE CONSTANT VOLUME AT ONE CONSTANT PITCH AT ONE CONSTANT RHYTHM RIGHT INTO YOUR EAR, YOU STILL WON'T HEAR You still won't hear You still won't hear You still won't hear You still won't hear You still won't hear You still won't hear
I thought I heard: "Another one slain" instead of "the null of losing" -I think either have the same message, but I feel like the slain reference gives more OOMPh. Let me state that I'm only typing all this to express my downfalls in hearing words, but also I might stubbornly keep those heard words for my own self. "IT! SHAPES! A PART OF ME!" instead of "It shouldn't bother me" -I always interpreted it as a reference to PTSD associated with fighting in a war...but either line DOES offer the same interpretation? Regardless, so thankful for your lyric post!!! Thank you!
@@sleep_is_awesome2838 Yeah. Whatever you like...but it is "null of losing"..all good though. I couldn't hear "F for fake" in Stripsearch..for yrs how stupids that. Mike is a really great guy that's finally opened up after yrs of hiding behind a shyness disguised by silent confidence. I miss him.
Man this is straight pop metal. I cant think of any other band who has ever fused the two genres so uniquely. Absolutely brilliant. This album is forever one of the greatest achievements of metal music, and just all music for that matter
Almost 27 yrs later, Angel Dust is still - beginning to end - the greatest record I’ve ever heard. Buy it on your little computers or phones or streaming thingamajigs or whatever you kids do today... *walks away holding my lower back*
@@wordup897 all of their music is really good and has a lot of hidden meanings and effort put into them, but where you start shod really depends on what your favorite kind of music is. If you like more calm music then California (1999), if you come from a rock and metal background then Disco valante (1995) but my favorite is the debut album Mr.bungle(1991) which has a ska/rock mix
Seems inconceivable that this album was released nearly 30 years ago. Still one of my all-time favorites, but it makes me feel old as fuck. Im also really happy that Mike is still kicking, unlike so many great vocalists from this musical era.
Saw an interview with krist from nirvana and Kim from sound garden and it was so nice to hear them not only give FNM a thank you for bringing on tour but also about what role they played in the entire transition to “grunge” etc. they are very well respected and almost worshipped by other musicians which says so much. They are almost to good to be completely mainstream although I know you can argue they were. I’m sorry but I can’t find anything that sounds like them. Incredible sonic explosion.
FNM is such a unique band they do what artists would call career suicide. They could've easily just ride the wave of sound from The Real Thing and be Mega Superstars but they have too much integrity and create and play what is true to themselves and not giving a fuck. This is why Faith No More is one of the greatest bands of all time and criminally underated.
It's definitely one of them. I just started listening to Faith no More a few months ago after an almost two decade hiatus. It's unreal how much better they were then most of music that's cranked out now.
I was 16 years old and thought it was a masterpiece...I come back to it now at 43 and still think it's a masterpiece! I would really like to know who directed the video it is still incredible. He was so ahead of his time ...hats off!

all the so-called competition, dudn't have a chance: because he had the faith-no-more band behind him, who else could say that? not many, if any! the actual band, of course wasn't great, til mike walk'd in, i don't know what he did, but whatever it was, it was enough to at least record a handful of great, memorable tracks, whatever they were called, ha ha more than the actual songs, was this idea or pitch: these guys were mavericks, much cooler-than-all-those-other-little-jerks, it was in the way they walked, and it was in the way they would deliberately not really come up with much, composition-wise, in the classical sense of songwriting- but it didn't matter, that was the point! there's plenty of great, clever songs and green-day-quality-melodical-perfection, this group of skeptics and doubting-thomases was gonna do it *their way*, not anybody else's..... it work'd... and it still works... boom!
This video makes me sad. I come from a family of vets. It's amazing how generation after generation gets duped into b.s. wars that only benefit the elite of the power structure.
Angel Dust only gets better with time. This cd was given to me in high-school by a skateboarding buddy, while I was listening to Mr.Bungle...he was like "I think this is the same singer" and its when this record was new. Yea im old lol
Mike Patton can do anything with his voice. He uses it percussively on this song (“it shouldn’t bother me…”) and it fits so perfectly you don’t even realize it. There are many great singers but there’s only one man whose voice can do anything.
i remember seeing this video and INSTANTLY becoming a FNM hardcore fan. Angel Dust is such an underrated album. Saw them live in Honolulu old Aloha Tower. Man that was a lifetime ago. I know all the lyrics to this song! almost 30 yrs later. Not sure why this song of all the music i listen to (classic rock, retro, reggae, dancehall, house, rap, hawaiian, pop, metal, speed metal, jazz, smoth jazz) speaks to me like no other…
They were ahead of their time; especially, this album. The Real Thing was really good as well, but does have a late 80s/early 90s vibe to it. Angel Dust was amazing!!!
I was 13 when this came out. First FNM track I ever heard. It came on the chart show in the UK as soon as I heard Mike Pattons vocals, I rushed to the VCR with a tape. Never had I heard a band like this before.
I was in HS and MTV promoted this video a few week ahead of time. I called off work at the grocery store after school to watch it! This is my favorite album of all time. Angel dust...
I remember myself watching and singing this video all the time! It is very artistic! I love Mike Patton, this music and this video!!!! I miss the 90's...
Angel dust came out when I was going through puberty. I use to put it in the CD player on repeat when I went to bed and made my life so much better at that time. Angle dust is so crisp and clean. Love that album
I take ride on my charisma and charm (Thank goodness. If I didn't have those I wouldn't have much else other than my devilish good looks lol.) yet they are but a mosquito in the ocean of Mike Pattons abilities.
Mike Patton “It's kind of about, well my dad was a coach, so I grew up and I always wanted to win. And well, I found out that I just can't win every game… darn it.”
If you truly give them a chance and listen to every FNM song, even their covers.... musical arrangements and with Mike’s vocal rage and range: utter brilliance!!! 👌🏽 I still love and appreciate them very much. They are to me, the epitome of musical geniuses.
As much as I always hated MTV, man they used to actually play at least close to as much great stuff like this, as they did crap. I miss being able to see new videos by great bands like this just out of the blue. I know bands still make videos, but its just not the same.
Yes. Going to Australia to see them AGAIN. Fed possums in Melbourne with them at a park near the hotel after a day of TV promos/interviews..great memories to last a lifetime of instant love for Mike..and Jim was the coolest too. Though the animosity between was felt..they still talked. Had dinner with JM that night. ✌🏼
