Friends, in our Gospel today, we find two stories tensely intertwined together-and both contain great suffering and great healing. Through this passage, we are reminded that even in the midst of confusion and frustration with God, we are called to trust in the Lord and his timing.

I listen to this particular homily now as often as I can. Going through a serious health crisis, this - along with Holy Mass and the Eucharist as well as the Rosary and Confession, and above all, prayer - keeps me going. Not naturally very trusting (grew up in an abusive home) I step by step (and sometimes leap) learn to trust HIM and HIS plan for me. The bitter question „Why hasn‘t HE healed me (yet) ?“, loses its grip on me. Instead, I learn how to be patient and content with what I can still do, even ill. And that HIS thoughts are not our thoughts. And, as this passage from Mark illustrates and Bishop Barron (also a true life-saver!) so beautifully explains: Our own suffering is never only our own. Thank you so much, Bishop Barron, for all your work! Tomorrow I‘ll be one year a Catholic. I converted also because of your powerful sermons and thoughts. Can‘t thank you enough. Greetings from a couch in Germany! 🕊️

🕊️🕊️ *THE HOUR OF DIVINE MERCY | 3PM (15:00HRS) WORLDWIDE.*🕊️🕊️ _08 July, 2024_ *THE INCOMPREHENSIBLE GOD* *One common tendency we all have is curiosity. We easily become curious about almost everything, desiring to know. Magazines, news articles, shows, daily gossip sessions, etc., all have as their aim the satisfaction of our curiosity. This curiosity must turn into a desire to know God and all He speaks to us. But, with that said, we must also know that we cannot know. The wisdom and Will of God are so far beyond our limited minds and hearts that we will never be able to understand their mystery. Life is a mystery. Struggle and hardships are mysteries. Love is a mystery. And yet, as we humbly face the countless mysteries of life, we also face the incomprehensible mystery of God. Interestingly, knowing that we do not know and understanding that we cannot understand, presents us with the great mystery of God. In the face of this incomprehensible Mystery, we are in the presence of God. This is a gift! This silencing of our understanding before the mystery of God enables us to face life in faith. Faith is a way of knowing without fully comprehending. It's a gift enabling us to walk through life in darkness, yet with clarity and certainty.* _(See Diary # 651)_. *Do you find that you do not understand God or His ways? Do you look at your life and wonder, "Why this?" or "Why that?" or "Where is God in all of this?" God and His ways are a mystery. But, as a mystery, you are invited to enter in with the darkness of faith. This will only make sense if you let the Holy Spirit penetrate your thoughts and teach you in a new way. Your "understanding" of the Mind and Will of God will not so much be like other forms of knowledge; rather your knowledge will be new, certain, clear, deep and yet mysterious at the same time. Allow yourself to be taught by faith and you will be able to face any and every mystery and hardship that you encounter in life.* _Prayer_ *_Lord, oh Incomprehensible Mystery! I stand before You in awe and in darkness. Yet, in the darkness of my understanding, I reaffirm my faith and trust in You. As I face the mystery of my life and, even more so, the mystery of Your life, I allow you to consume me with the gift of faith. Help me to believe without seeing and to know without understanding. Most importantly, I desire and choose to give my life to You, oh Incomprehensible Mystery, and I choose You above all else. Jesus, I trust in You._* *Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy* _From: Daily Reflections on Divine Mercy: 365 Days with Saint Faustina , John Paul Thomas_ _Fr. Chisomo Kingsley (SDB)_ _Catholic Prayer War Room_

Many years ago, someone gave me a book called „Writing for Children and Teenagers“. The author‘s most important claim for me was that the first and most essential ingredient for a story was conflict - because that‘s what triggers off the whole story in the first place. As I mulled over this idea, I came to see that this was why we live in a world of time and change, why it is imperfect, why sin is allowed to exist at all: so that we may grown and learn and develop to the full perfection God has in mind for us. I know this may sound very philosophical, and it doesn‘t always relieve your frustration, but it‘s helped me to see my own problems as one strand in the plot of a much larger story that God is writing. I may not see how I am contributing, but the Author knows what he‘s about, and so I can trust Him.

Trust is all I have after the death of my husband . It is no small thing . My finite mind asks daily why God why!? All I have, and it’s everything is love and trust for my God. I’ll never understand ever. This is the valley of tears no doubt , many times I feel this is hell on earth . The suffering and injustices that will never go away as we breathe and love. This can’t be all , it just can’t and it isn’t. My Lord I love you and look forward to seeing you. Bishop Barron , don’t ever stop you are a life line for me. Sending you sweetness and light. I grew up in the Catholic faith during a time when entering a Protestant church was a big no-no. I see God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and Mary working to heal the fissure created centuries ago. I’m Catholic, my husband is Protestant, but we have a deep respect for each other’s faith and love for Jesus Christ and His church. Blessings and Love to you.💗

@@carolallen1128 yes, although the Bishop is posting fortnightly with other work, rather than weekly, which I miss, but I cannot even imagine just how busy his life is with all of his work. Did you know that their are some buttons you can press on YT Videos to help you transcribe? There is a little box on screen labelled ‘cc’ for closed captions (sometimes with multiple language options), and then I think their are three lines in the title/ description settings area that allow you to open up a scrolled transcription that I think is time stamped ( from memory). They are auto- generated, so there are going to be some errors in translation, but you could copy and paste them and then listen through the video again to make the edits. Also, consider slowing down the audio speed to allow you to pick up on more dialogue and type it up in time (I am a very slow and inaccurate typist myself!) . I hope that helps if you did not know about the settings already. Kind regards, VC

Thank you for this moving sermon, Bishop Barron. This one hits home. For months now, I have been wrestling with the condition that my grandma goes through right now. Her health is deteriorating almost everyday forcing that my Mom and I have given up all the other expensive recourses for medication since my Mom's now out of work while I, well, I'm a seminarian. Apart from the financial constraints that has almost dried up all our family savings, my grandma's body is too weak and fragile already to go through all these treatments. Like Jairus, and perhaps with most people, I feel so desperate for help. At a certain point, I thought of giving up on prayer and on hope. Like Jairus, my fears overwhelm me, forcing me to tell God, "Lord, I don't know what I feel anymore. Lord, I don't know how to pray anymore." Like Jairus, a synagogue attendant, before the first cardiac arrest that my grandma (who raised me and whom I love; the affection she has for me is the most secure thing in the world for me) endured and (had thankfully survived), I would say that I'm trying to live with and in fidelity in my journey of faith as a man being formed to minister to God and his people. But when everything seemed so smooth, here comes this trial. Bishop Barron, thank you for this moving sermon. It surely has given me a renewed sense of hope. Please pray for my grandma. Please pray for me to, above all, trust Him.

A virtuous life should spring naturally from a life of prayer and intimacy with Jesus. A man should be conscious of his sins and bothered by them. He should be trying very hard to live out the supernatural virtues infused at his Baptism: faith, hope, and charity; and to develop the intellectual virtues of prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude. Trust Him. Trust Him. Trust Him. Easy to say, to tell, or claim but remains a struggle when faith is challenged. Yeah, can relate to Jairus. He was in intense urgency, then as they were walking surrounded by crowds, Jesus talked to the hemorrhagic woman, as if He's taking a "sweet time." This is where faith sets in in unfavorable scenario. Thank you for further and deeper reflections, Bishop Barron. Hope and pray to attend Mass presided by you. I so agree Annie. I wrote in my journal this morning how this Gospel could be applied to my life. It seems so different from Bishop Barron's interpretation. This is what I wrote...."I was thinking about what this Gospel means and how I can apply it to my life. And as always our good Lord comes to my aid and most interestingly almost immediately. I open up my “A Spring Within Me” daily meditation book by Richard Rohr and there is the answer. This weeks theme was about Spirituality and the Twelve Steps. Sundays are a summary of each days reading similar to what Rohr does in the daily meditations we get in the email. Anyway, day 1’s summary was “Both the Gospel and the Twelve-Step Program insist that the experience of powerlessness is the absolutely necessary starting point for transformational healing “. Both the young girl and the woman with the bleeding were both powerless and now they could be healed. To apply it to my own life I’ve come to realize how powerless I am, it gets me out of the way and now God can do his thing in me and for me. It makes so much sense to me. I love the Gospels and what they teach me. Re reading my words, I thought it was Jairus who was powerless in the story not so much the daughter. Anyway, I guess we get what we need in the moment when listening to the Gospel's but it's good to hear other perspectives.

You could have knocked me over with this homily; I have heard homilies on the raising of Jairus' daughter and on the healing of the woman whose great Faith only needed to touch his garment, but how Bishop Barron intertwined him. Oh, how I could identify with Jairus. In the 79 years of my life I could write books on how God has taken seeming tragedies, hardships, heart aches and turned them into greater blessings than I can imagine. Two years ago my son was hit with a crisis that I could never have imagined and all I could do was pray and it kept going from bad to worse and then a year ago something more tragic, more unimaginable happened not only to him but to one of his brothers and to me. I just keep trying to pray, God youu know why you let this happen, you know how YOU are going to resolve it. I am here with Jairus wanting HIM to cocme ASAP.

As Bishop Barron says, "Peace be with of you!". Just an interesting note to Bishop Barron's point that sometimes we get "frustrated" with God because He gets "distracted" with other issues before getting to ours. St. Theophylact in Catena Aurea states, ""to urge the chief of the synagogue to a confident hope that He could thus cure his child". Perhaps God doesn't get handle other issues before our own as a distraction but rather to build that hope in us that He will heed our call! "Trust Him". Have a blessed day!

It's funny that you say this today, Bishop Baron. Yesterday I said to God that I'm not going to ask him for anything anymore, because nothing happens. My one son's marriage seems to be crumbling, we are trying to sell our house and move into something smaller but it's not happening, this covid thing ... the India variant is invading our country ( South Africa) at an alarming rate. But the more I ask God for help, the less I get it. So I told God that I won't nag anymore. He must just do whatever He thinks best ( even though I am a bit annoyed with Him!!🤷😖).

Lynn, This may not help at all, but here goes. Someone I know suffers terribly from alcohol addiction, to the point where she went to court because her children were going to be taken away. She was convinced she would lose them. Another friend just kept telling her to trust in God. And she was really trying. Trusting God helped her get 30 days sober (no mean feat). So on her court day she told the judge how much she loved her kids and how her trust in God is helping her change her life, that she was sober now, and guess what? The judge sided with her and she has kept her kids. She has now gone on to start a women's chapter of AA specifically aimed to help women in similar situations. This is all in the last six months. She was hopeless and now God's using her to help others in need. The point, I guess, is just what Bishop Barron says: "Trust in God!" God really does have this!

Sometimes you have to "storm heaven with prayer," like the woman in the parable who nags the unjust judge. Other times, it's just a matter of praying for the sake of praying, not asking anything in particular; it's one of the reasons why I like starting my day with Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours. Other times, I just need to pray meditatively the Our Father, visualizing myself and Jesus sitting together in the lap of God the Father.

Bishop Barron, you are loved and so appreciated. Thank you for sharing your inspired wisdom and faith. I do have a question, too. I read the words of Saint Augustine recently that really intrigued me. He wrote, "Not yet am I in hell, after all but even if I were, you would be there too; for if I descend into the underworld, you are there." This is an amazing image. Even in hell, God may be with us. You've preached that God went to the limit of God-forsakenesss to save us from sin & death. To hear Augustine words provides an incredible comfort and realization that God is everywhere in everything, even hell. I don't want to take anything away from how awful and nightmarish hell must be, but knowing God is also there with those cursed there gives even the worst a silver lining.

God is going to do what God is going to do whether we like it or not I would never think to blame or get upset with God for anything bad that happens in my life God created us and gave us life and also gave us the wonderful gift of free will but our physical life belongs to him this world is nothing when you put your faith in him well of course as a human being you feel compassion for those who suffer due to no cause of Their Own but in a strange way I also Envy and have great joy for them knowing that God has something special in store for them I'll tell you what personally makes me worried is the fact that I've never really faced any real suffering in my life I'm in my 50s well I've certainly had my share of self-inflicted problems no major suffering I've never been sick a day in my life fact I don't think I've ever even broken a bone everyone that I care about is either alive and healthy or passed away at a relatively old age well I've never been Rich I've always had money in my pocket roof over my head food on the table and as I get older it's scaring the hell out of me because I've Ben a sinner my whole life done plenty of things I'm not proud of enough so that I personally don't believe that I'm worthy of going to heaven without Jesus intervention and forgiveness even then who knows I have doubts but I have hope but I also feel that you have to pay for your sins and I think sometimes that comes in the form of suffering and I believe that Believers in God who suffer in this lifetime will be rewarded in heaven but my big question is what happens to those who don't face any real suffering in this world but are strong Believers in God and Jesus Christ I feel like I owe a huge debt for my sinful life and while I ask God for forgiveness I don't believe I paid for those sins

Jesus, Mary and st. Joseph graciously grant us knowledge and wisdom. Ps 30:2, Mk 5:28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.” In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. I have read this many times and marveled at it's beauty in revealing the love and mercy of our Lord, always teaching, ..this time it struck me: the woman had suffered 12 years, physically, socially, many ways and the daughter of Jairus had lived for 12 years arriving at death's door. Both received mercy to life, to live anew. Beautiful. God's word ever beautiful, ever enlightening. Thank you, Bishop Barron, for another deep look into that Word.

It’s so easy when our prayers are answered with a yes; but when the answer is not yet or I have something better in mind it can shake faith. I need to listen to this man of God, read scripture, go to mass, pray the rosary ( I use Bishop Barron’s Rosary Series), take advantage of all the gifts that the church provides in order to cling to faith. It’s so hard but if not God, if not Christ then what? This world seems so meaningless without a deep faith in God, so I’ll keep clinging to faith even when I simply don’t understand because the alternative is a profound emptiness.
