A fabulous thumri by the great master. The text is also extraordinary, with, in the second part, a beautiful Urdu poem inserted. The speed of the recording is not steady, and there are some other flaws in the sound as well, but the lover of this kind of music will easily accept that. Undoubtedly the most beautiful thumri ever recorded. Pay attention to the delicate pukars (parlandos), and the way gandhar is relished and ravished in tar saptak. शास्त्रीय संगीत में काव्य के भाव को इतनी क्षमता और मधुरता के साथ प्रस्तुत करना यह सामान्य बात नहीं है। साधारणतः सभी मूर्धन्य कलाकार भी शास्त्रीयता तक अटक जाते हैं।और थोड़ा बहुत भाव को भी स्पर्श कर लेते हैं। फैय्याज, खां साहब को दोनों एक साथ प्रस्तुत करने में महारत हासिल है ।

Million of thanks to you for this. I've searched this song, sung by Ustad Faiyaz Khan Saheb, since a long time just like a needle in haystack. This rare piece is very much distinguished. My dream has come true in getting and hearing it after a long long time.

Though our most revered Khansaheb was known as one of the greatest Kheyal singers of his generation with his alaps in dhrupad style, he could sing lighter varieties with equal virtuosity as we find in this thumri. It proves that who does sing DHRUPAD and KHEYAL well, can sing anything due to intricate voice training while learning.

I would rather not agree with the final statement. Khaan sahab definitely was a accomplished Dhrupad and Khayal singer, but the fact that he could present thumris, dadras, and ghazals in such a virtuousity as you say is rather a statement of Khan sahab's rigorous thought process of these genres and his ability to mold his performance to these genres. Thumri dadra and ghazal require skill set apart from what is required for Khayal and Dhrupad. And only a few master's like the late Aftaab-e-Mausiqi managed to present all these genres with such an ease

What a wonderful treat. Used to listen to this during the National Programme Of Music of A.I.R. during my school-days of the late 1970-s & early 1980-s. Grateful thanks for sharing this.
