Fake Colt 1911 Copy 

i don't care what anyone says, one was made in a factory lathe and milling machine, the other made in a grass hut with a vise and metal file. damn fine workmanship for a grass hut.

Many comments here already said it's called a 'paltik', usually made in Danao, Cebu, Philippines, so I'll just add a fun fact. 1.) The term 'paltik' has been integrated into everyday speech as a common word in the different languages in the Visayas region, where Danao is easily accessible, as being "poorly made", this pertains from the fact that paltik guns have little to no quality control and the reliability vary from gunsmith to gunsmith and the type of steel used. 2.) During WW2, Danao residents started making guns for the local resistance forces against the Japanese when the Americans withdrew from the Philippines to Indonesia, and the Philippine soldiers and local militia had hold their own and needed a supply of weapons and ammo. The problem is that there has been a lack of will to fully industrialize the Philippines and remains an dominantly agricultural country, with the lack of industrialization, highly skilled smiths like the gun makers in Danao continue to have their skills under-utilized and have to resort to just continuing their backyard business to be able to feed their family.

sad thing is if the same guys were in the states hand building 1911s under a well marketed name with proven metals people would be paying 5 grand for them

We call that as a Class "B" 1911 made in Danao City , Cebu, Philippines just about 1980's, as the earlier homemade 1911 were shoddily made, but the Class "A" type now are almost perfect copies that you can interchange parts with a real 1911. BTW, 2 known gun manufacturers, I won't specify who, did something amusing that about a large group of the local homemade gunsmiths were employed in their factories as they have been making these illegal copies all their lives, nothing beats experienced gunsmiths.

They dont do this in jungle huts anymore... theyve gone underground literally... once a gun is made they sell it in pesos... the person who bought it will do the chemical process for rust proofing... then sells is twice initial value to a person who brings it STATE-SIDE and sold in dollars. cosmetics may be crude but performance and durability is at par with the original.

Im filipino and i used to have one of those. Its not made after ww2, its more recent than that (maybe starting from the 80s?). Only thugs, poor people and communist rebels here use those 1911s. Part of our colonial mentality gun culture here is to buy norinco or RIA and have it Colt or para odnance marks etched on them

A little history for people. This may or may not be a Colt. I say this because Colt outsourced some of their manufacturing of 1911's to the Philippines to keep up with production some are unaware of this. The Philippines has been making 1911's since World War II because they were contracted by Colt to make them, and so just because it was made in the Philippines does not mean it is not an actual Colt 1911 depending upon what year it was made.

for what they sell for in the Philippines, a guy could flip these for a nice profit if he could get a steady supply. A pretty good reminder that gun control is pointless, when a guy sitting in the jungle with hand tools can turn these out.

The ingenuity of the people that hand make these is amazing. I bet they even made the crude tooling used in the manufacture. I would say though, that any gun barrel that's soft enough to be worked by hand, probably shouldnt be fired but is still a very collectable piece.

Too many backyard gun manufactures in the Philippines they are making fully auto m16 from an engine block.

To be honest, 1911 colt 45's are extremely common here in The Philippines,almost everyone here has a 1911 and they're probably all ghost guns. My dad has multiple handguns, my uncle (mom side) has multiple firearms, my mom's friends has firearms, my dad's friends has guns. They're all too goddamn common here so nobody wouldn't really fuck around here cause you never know if they have a gun or not. In fact, it's a common thought here to assume that the person you're annoying probably has a gun and they mostly do so it isn't wise to fuck around.

I have sold thousand of 1911 clones to security agensies in the philippines. Most of them are piece of junk like a decorative gun on a holster of a security guard. But Danao has some very good replica like the mac 11 machine pistols and the kg 9 MP.

I was at a gun show years back, like 1996. This dude was selling Llama's lowers with Colt Gold Cup slides AS a Gold Cup. The uninformed gobbled up the mis matched guns at 750 each... what was the easiest part to tell is Colt wasn't selling any firearms with parkerised finishes at the time. These were presented to the public as new.

That'll set you back $195 in the philippines. You can get an Mac10 for about $250. They all work.

So that's a hand made and fitted to the frame. Some would call it a custom made 1911 (not mass produce) i would love to see the accuracy / grouping on this gun.

One thing you didn't mention. The frame is marked to look like a WW2 military Colt, but the markings on the slide are for a commercial Colt sold to civilians.

..years back, the Japanese crime organization, the Yakuza were the main buyers of these " backyard" PHILIPPINE made guns. When things began too tight for the Yakuza to bring the guns to Japan, they brought the Philippine gun makers to Japan instead and gave them very good machineries and lucrative " salaries".. Now, these backyard gun makers have adopted machine technology they learned in Japan.

Sir's there are legitimate gun makers here in the Philippines (patented) and there are plenty illegal gun makers...the illegal ones had cut-outs to traced and the finished product looks good..its the inner parts that are not reliable like springs, firing pin will degrade easily that is why they are recommended to replace it with original parts (branded)... but please take note these guns operate smoothly with the main function TO KILL...1. after the hit discard the gun...and retrieve the victims original (BRANDED) firearm. OR 2. for self defense at your residence....IF OUR COUNTRY HAD LEGITIMIZED..WE COULD HAVE ONE OF THE BEST UNITS AS WE HAVE ABLE CRAFTSMEN.

Pretty cool. I visited a few Khyber Pass "factories" in the late 90's and it was fascinating. Never have been to the philippine "factories" but I would love to check them out sometime.

Yup! It SHOULD say "COLT'S" in script (with the Pony) NOT "Colt" on it! My Pre-1956 Colt's .38 Super Combat Commander Special (think Gold Cup) is plainly rolled "Colt's Automatic Pistol Model of 1911A Caliber Colt's .38 Super Auto". It is Class Three engraved by Grebbe of Colt's Custom Shop and has an adjustable trigger and target sights. I recently sold a .32 Long Colt Lady Colt's 5 3/8" Garter Pistol from about 1880. A lovely 5-shot Police Positive Action Revolver Grade SEVEN engraved that belonged to my neighbor across the street. She was profoundly deaf and a 17-year-old bride when she and her husband moved to wild-and-wooly Tulsey-Towne before statehood in about 1880. He got it for her and she wore it in the garter holster on her right leg under her skirts. I had it re-blued by Colt's Custom Shop a Decade ago, and sold it to a lady from Nome for nearly 6 figures. Unquestionably, the most accurate revolver I've ever shot-probably the most accurate pistol I've ever shot, including my Thompson Contender Super 14.

The serrated part is a signature use to locate the backyad gunsmith and not intended for the design..only the barel machined and the rest part is all handmade by file..from phillipines here

I would have to have both side by side to catch the font problem. The slide serrations are an obvious if your looking for that. Running the serial number might give it away unless its a legitimate number from a real colt

The frame lines are crude and the slide has ball cuts which is only for M1911.

my grandpa has this kind of 1911 and only works with hand mags the mag that came from the legit gun store doesn't fit I thought the one that I bought from the gun store was fake I just realized the gun itself were fake though it fires no problem! until now my uncle owns it and I try to buy it from him, he said it's a collection. OH, my Geessh they collecting counterfeit...

That Colt copy isn't finished off nearly as well as a Rock Island!! I will say, I've had many 1911s cross my bench with Essex frames and a pre-WWII Colt slide that are labeled US ARMY on the slide. Some of those look like they were machined with a chisel!

The 1911 moniker refers to the patten of the weapon, not the identity of the producer. It is not an authentic Colt, but it is a 1911 pattern pistol.

I’ve had a couple of genuine Colt 1911’s in the past… Now i shoot an ATI FX model 1911 Commander, & I bought it outright, out-the-door from a gun store for $325 total cost. (70 series type). Made in the Philippines. I’ve shot several boxes of ammunition with it. It cycles ANY ammunition, even steel case Russian ammo, or hollow points, or flat nose. It’s more accurate than my Colt’s were, & they wouldn’t cycle just any ammunition… Trenendously recommend, LOL

BTW for your info that black grip is made of battery case. Now adays it more modern kind of manufacturing for then,they buy the reciever 70 % complete and also the slide,do some milling manufacture the small parts and its done. Then they bring the almost finish product into a marking facility,they mark ot colt,para ordnance etc,bring it again to a shop to have finish and its done. They sell the 1911 to the stockholders for 6000 php the stock holders sell it to the runners for 7500 php and the runners sell it to gun runners for 13000 to 14000 php and the final gun runners sell at around 15000 to 18000 php. Thats how the trail works hahahaha

About a year or maybe two years ago a group of people got arrested for manufacturing firearms. Some of them were on layoff from RIA. It was believed that they smuggled out some of the larger unfinished parts and completed them in their homes. It's hard to get any components of guns or ammunition there. In fact a permit to own or carry a firearm is next to impossible for Filipinos. So some find it easier to risk prison. I've seen a number of the weapons they've finished by hand. Sometimes the work is truly beautiful and sometimes it's horrible. I've seen engraved firearms that rival old style high end. Salamat sa paggawa ng video na ito (seemed appropriate to write in Tagalog, lol)

Couple of points: 1) No one should be copying another manufacturer's product and passing it off as authentic, i.e., unless you are Colt Arms, you can't call what you manufacture, a "Colt". 2) How well does this Philippino-made model M1911A1 shoot? Might shoot pretty well; might be a good economical handgun to own.

Colts roll markings have always been a little inconsistent but this was obviously punched.

I watched a documentary on gun smuggling into the United States. The make the forms from actual 1911 parts as dies. It’s a long process as there are one maybe three people working on the one gun. They take metal and get it really hot and then with the use of a die they can form the Metal. Grinding is also done using a die to make sure the part is as exact as possible. After the pistol is completed they go out in the forest and fire one bullet. If it works it is sold to a gun runner that sneaks them into the United States. From their it is sold on the Black Market such as gangs. Very dangerous business. The worker that makes guns can and do get killed by rivals.

There is a documentary on RU-vid showing guys producing semi auto pistols in the jungle with nothing more than a vice and some files. Amazing

Good video but think you need to keep items you show still for a while for close shots. The autofocus sometimes can't keep up with the movements and movement is a problem with limited definition at the viewer's end. Enjoyed and liked video nonetheless.

I have had a lot of 1911s. Always wanted a Colt with the pony on the slide. Finally shelled out $800 for a new Colt 1991. I was very disappointed with the Colt ,It stove piped a lot Failure to fire and feed. What I really did not like is it had a plastic grip safety and a plastic trigger. For $800 these parts should have been steel. I have a Rock Island 1911 now, all steel parts and absolutely runs GREAT! Colt is selling there name. Springfield, Remington R1 and Smith & Wesson still make a good 1911 for the price. Colt---forgetaboutit! A lot of companies made 1911 in wwll , all were as good or better then the Colt.

Plot twist: it's a legit Colt 1911 but their quality has gone down the drain

Does it fire the same as original?

I'm not 100% convinced its a 4gery. 1. The gummed up top of the firing pin stop is probably from crudely using a tool to remove it (some are very tight), not from bunging up the carving when making the part as that is completely inconsistent with the rest of the gun. 2. The arc like mark inside the slide are from the end mill on a milling machine, not from hand filing the gun. 3. The checkering on the back of the slide and front of the grip portion of the frame is a common custom gunsmithing feature and often added to a gun well after it was manufactured. The presence of this feature has no bearing on the authenticity of the weapon. This is a nice feature on a modern 1911, and a travesty against the huge manatee when done on a vintage collectible. It may indeed be fake, but it wasn't made in a hut with files. As to making guns by hand - A friend does this and get about $5k each, but his idea of "by hand" is make each piece an individual work of art using tool like swiss screw machines and Japanese 5 axis mills.

Actually the clone 1911 you can see on this video that the clone 1911 has less gap on the slide then the original one. I think the clone gun can take more punishment than the so called original.
