FAKE PLAYING? Why Korean Bands Can't Play Live Performance on TV? (QWER, CNBLUE, DAY6, FT ISLAND) 

한국 방송에서 밴드가 라이브를 하려면 3000만원 이상의 비용이 든다고 해요. 그래서 대부분의 밴드가 방송에서 라이브 하는 게 힘들다고 하더라구요. 그래서 아직까지 QWER이 방송에 나가지 않는 이유도 있다고 하네요.

Be the King! 왕이 되라. 아웅다웅하고 싸워봤자 방송국에서는 핸드싱크밖에 할 수 없다. 방송국에서 기본적으로 밴드연주할 수 있도록 세팅해 놔야 됩니다. KBS 수신료는 받으면서 왜 그런건 해주지 않는 거야? 국방방송도 해주는데.

This got me so emotional. As a villain (XH fan) I am so deeply thankful for these bands for paving the way for the industry to accommodate bands. Because if there weren't any improvements to how korean bands promote themselves, and the system (I know it's still shit and there's still a lot to do) but I wouldn't probably have stumbled upon xdinary heroes. And they are my ray of sunshine these days. So, I am sending the warmest hugs to all k-bands and their fans

JYPE way of promoting is quite clever despite I-fans criticizing it for not promoting on music shows enough blah2. Day6 really stabilize their image as a band through basking and live performances in their early days which makes them acceptable within Indie rock world. And I am so happy for their success after so many years of hard work and dedication ❤🎉

Korea TV stations should have a permanent stage which is set up for band performance only.

This is so informative and a great collection of clips showcasing the artists while explaining different bands' perspectives and some history surrounding the issue! I also love how you ended it with that inspiring quote. I love the language used recognizing the effort of these artists and how we should unify and prop one another up rather than pretentiously make distinctions and tear each other down. I love bands and love that Korean bands are getting more mainstream appreciation and renumeration (which they more than deserve), though it's also comforting to know there will always be fans who support this kind of music however popular they are

I remember that Day6 Jae Fancam showing his guitar is not even connected in a speaker I assume? A lot of people criticized him while not even knowing they are not also happy to do that. They were forced to do that

being an idol and band by itself is hard enough, being an idol band is even harder. that's not mentioning this weird gatekeep culture in the indie side as well. the fans of indie band often won't like it if their band promote even just slightly like an idol and just want indie/underground band to stay underground & unknown. it's like there's no place for those who are in between. let band be idols too! let them be in the middle of the spectrum peacefully :(

Xdinary heroes and Day6 These guys are very talented ❤

The sound engineering of Korean broadcasting stations has been poor since long ago. Most of the engineers at broadcasting stations are not people who studied sound, but rather people who majored in electrical engineering, and they value academic background more than skills. Their understanding of band sound and engineering are also very poor, and they take up a lot of time, so they themselves refuse to broadcast live. I envy the live sound level of Japanese broadcasting stations

I watched QWER's performance a few days ago. It was such an exciting live performance. If they had seen their performance in person, they would never be able to bring up such foolish things as hand-syncing. Moreover, they proved their live performance at the Pentaport Rock Festival, the biggest rock festival in Korea. Their new album is coming out on 9/23. Listen, everyone!

세상에는 좋은 밴드가 너무 많다. 그런데 더 많았으면 좋겠고, 좋은 밴드들을 모두 응원합니다. 밴드음악을 너무너무 좋아합니다.

Now I understand why JYP did not bring day6 to music shows at their early times (even tho I wanted them to be promoted so badly) but now that I see why I actually appreciate what JYP did 🤧 that way Day6 would be able to stabilize themselves as an actual band and they proved themselves lots of times which is why they are so successful today 😆 their music is also amazing so how could anyone not like day6🥹🫶

As a Idol Band stan (I stan almost all the bands showed in this vid), and a musician myself, I can completely understand the situation and see how unfair it is for bands to be forced to play with hand-sync. I've seen the broadcasts, and itswpretty obvious that its not live, but since I started hearing Kbands, I never judged them for that bc I've seen their concerts on YT and their live performances, acoustics, MTV (In Cnblue and Ftisland case) and in this cases we can see their experience and skills playing and singing live. Lately Day6, XH and Lucy have uploaded live performances to their YT and we can clearly see their live, so, we should keep supporting thid amazing bands, bc the companies are not giving them the attention they deserve, each band have a different color and it's unfair that companies just decide to givw them less attention bc costs more 😢😢 I love bands, and so should do every Kpop stan, bc they are pillars in the Idol industry.

Thank you for this very informative video. As a Day6 fan since early 2016 I know all the struggles my fave band went thru. Such a pity for korean bands who's talent and skills can't be acknowledged due to the lack of space and opportunities. So frustrating at how all these wonderful musicians are not taken seriously. Hopefully it's time for a change..

I could tell if a band is doing handsync by listening to the sound and their hand movement. But i can easily recognize a band doing handsync by just watching their expressions. They look so much passionate when doing live music

Oh so that's why Lee Seungyoon was talking about QWER during his appearance in Bibim-Pop.... I think he's right tho, because of bands like QWER that doesn't sound like your traditional band, band music became more well-known. Also isn't band music the "pop" in western music? (before the incoming of electronic music tho). It's great seeing the k-band scene flourishing these days, I hope they all walk in flower road...

From what I see, it's hard to be an idol rock band, they dont fit anywhere. They lack the popularity they deserves just like other idols from the same company, but they are too "maintenance" to be an indie. Their music always get criticized from both even though they charted well; "too loud", "too obscure", "too pop", "too pretty". One of the reason I know K-rock was through N.Flying and CNBlue and from then on, I keep on watching both Idols and K-rock. It's pretty sad since idol rock bands, at least in my view, are what makes k-rock go international especially in K-wave era, yet they aren't appreciated enough by both sides.

"The world created by Seo Taiji who faced a 'blindly no' from the critics." (7:50) I think it was a very strong statement. We all have seen it since FTI & CNB era, and I've thought many things have changed since then. Nowadays I no longer watch mainstream music shows cause they provide nothing more than chances for big companies to flaunt their money. So I did not realize that this hand-sync situation is still very prevalent now. But then, seeing how the public reception still choose to one sided-ly blame the talents is very disheartening. I think Korean bands have a unique and distinct style but because of this strong prejudice, their growth are often stunted from the early days. Anyway, thanks for the great video, it summed up the situation nicely and very easy to understand. Great job as always ^^b

very very informative, I've been a fan of many korean (idol) band for quite long now, Day6, N.Flying, and now I'm also a big fan of qwer, and no one can't deny the existence of qwer is really makes us as international fans excited, they bring "new experience" of music format, they make band format feels more "pop", more trendy among korean fans, I really don't understand why some k-netz are often seeing lots of things so negative, never really gave "benefit of the doubt" they just keep saying "no no" to something they don't like while spreading lots of fake news, or fake allegations, it's frustrated me how dense and ignorance some of those knetz. I do hope lots of other bands like qwer would be born in the future, also we can see that Day6 receive a huge success just recently after almost a decade in the business, I feel like "wth knetz where've you been after so many years"...Day6 swept the charts it gaves me goosebumps, and qwer staying so long on charts too, the obstacle is a lot, but I see a future for (idol) bands, a bright future I think, tho again we may find many difficult times thanks to those stupid knetz. qwer might not be the best at their instruments but if you actually watch their performances from day 1 literally their first ever performance on entview_live it is so obvious that their instruments are live. really scary that people who can't even tell handsync to live can sit there with confidence and say that they're handsyncing.

I didn't know they had to pay a lot just to promote in music shows but here i am wishing they perform more 😭😭

음방에서 무대 꾸미는 비용이 중소에서 천만원에서 2천만원 정도선. 대기업은 3천 정도선. 거기에 밴드같은 경우 악기로 라이브 세팅까지 가져가야 한다면 최소로 잡아도 5백에서 천 정도... 그러니 그냥 라이브 세팅 포기하고 악기만 들고 가서 비용 절약.

Performing live band on any music show on TV is actually much more expensive and hassle than performing live singing

when day6 back then is so rarely getting opportunity to perform on TV. they did it with their instruments not plugged in and they look dead LMAO.

My expectation for all band appearances on music shows is that they’re like MVs but w/ live singing. After YoungK’s interview w/ Eric Nam talking about the expensive logistical nightmare of playing live, I can understand why. Not ideal or preferred, but it’s something they need to do to promote their music. TBH, Kpop groups dance but typically lip sync on these shows, right? Why aren’t they called out for not really singing?

As a drummer and a part of a band myself this is just sad. As if being in a band and having a band isn't hard enough and then this another level kind of fckery is happening to them, bro that's tough.

Even on German TV, you can often see hand-synched bands without any connecting cables. This is due to the limitations of the broadcast environment, not because they cannot play.......

Learning about how music shows will charge you a bunch to play live was pretty eye opening. It’s crazy that so many groups who did go on music shows and didn’t pay would then be criticized if they didn’t actually play because music show never said anything about this stupid fee. Makes sense that groups that play instruments rarely go on music shows, since it’s almost a lose lose. You lose a bunch of money if you do play live, if you don’t play live you get criticized if you are shown to be fake playing. Too much risk for a stupid music show that most bands won’t win since bands aren’t as popular as idols.

Music broadcast doesn't allowed artist to show their talent either kpop idols nor K-band. They want to edit a clean perfect show like a mv, 'cause all music broadcast systems are like a commercial plate-forme. But for K-band it' s crucial for them to perform not handsyncing😢

한국에서 밴드가 사장된게 럭스 카우치 사건 때문일까? 그 이유도 있겠지만 가장 큰건 락부심과 텃세가 가장 크지. ft나 문희준이나 최근엔 엔플라잉등 기타 여러 밴드들이 메이저 시도를 했지. 결국 비웃음과 조롱으로 나락갔음. 또 락듣는다면 '레드제플린, 너바나, 건스앤로지스 블라블라 들어봤냐?' 이러는데 ㅆ ㅋㅋㅋ 81년생인 내가 잼민이 시절때 그룹을 여태 기준으로 삼는거 보면 트롯트 듣는 노인들보다 심함. 최소 트롯트판도 뉴비들 배척을 그정도로 하진 않는다. 여튼 슬슬 밴드에 대한 변화의 조짐이 보이는데 자라나는 새싹에 소금 좀 치지 말자.

음악방송은 앰프연결하고 라이브 할 수 있는 여건이 안돼요..

우리나라는 공연을 할수있는 전용콘서트장도 없음 매번 스포츠경기장 빌려서하고 잔디 손상간다고 욕먹고 규모도 소규모라 돈도 안됨 문화가 잘나간다고 떠들어봤자 일본에비하면 하늘과 땅차이임 다른거 일본에 지는거 싫어하며서 공연문화 이런데 투자하는 정권이나 정치인들은 못봤음 유명 외국 아티스트들이 한국은 공연장이없어 안간다고 일본만 가는거 정말 속상하고 억울할일임

이제는 데이식스 세상이지 멜론 탑 5 에 4곡이 데이식스 인데 이건 어떤 탑 1군남돌 1군 여돌도 못하는거임

The idol bands up to 'day6' debuted after years of practice, and 'qwer' debuted as soon as RU-vidrs first encountered playing musical instruments. So an idol band up to 'day6' will feel unfair. However, 'qwer' doesn't have to feel that way.

Oh thank you for this video it really shed a light on why they're forced to play MR instead of live. I've already known about the fact that performers have to pay themselves if they want to promote in music shows but it's more insane to know that its MORE expensive if they wish to play live which is really unfair for bands promoting 😮‍💨 Also thank you for sharing day6's early days. People think that the group had it easy and have the privileges just cuz they're under a big 3 company. The recognition and appreciation theyre getting now are thanks to their own hard work alone as well as mydays 🥲
