I have a pocket pinger I bought from you guys a while back that I've used for silver and gold, and I just discovered a new use for it that, surprisingly, I haven't found any videos on. Maybe I'm the first? You guys should make a video about it. It works on copper! The reason that this is useful is 1982 pennies. As you probably know, pennies from 1981 and older are 95% copper, whereas 1983 and newer are mostly zinc, whereas 1982 was a transition year where most pennies were made from copper (I think most) and some were made from zinc. Thus, many people just return the 1982's to the bank, since not everyone wants to get a gram scale for them. I was about to do the same today, as I had about 15 1982 pennies -- and then the idea popped into my mind. Why not try the pocket pinger? I was surprised! Every single 1981 and older penny made a distinctive lasting ping, whereas not a single penny from 1983 or later made any ping at all. I tried this on about 50 pennies to be sure, half that I know for sure are copper and half that I know for sure are zinc. I then proceeded to test the 1982 pennies, and surprisingly all 15 of them had a lasting ping. Thus, now I know that they are copper and I have a new easy way to test 1982 pennies.

Its getting very scary how fakes are now! Even though I only buy from reputable dealers I still check everything by weight, by calipers, with my magnetic slide and my pocket Pinger! My only problem seems to be that the app doesn't work on my phone (Walmart special) but does work on my tablet (also Walmart special)....go figure!
