Fake & Subpar Products Ripped Through Temu’s Facade, Making Chinese Firms Everyone’s Punching Bag

While on the surface, the price war appears to benefit consumers, in reality, it harms the entire socio-economic system. The most immediate impact is that merchants who insist on selling at regular prices are forced out of the market. Unless they too join the price war, leading to an ongoing decrease in prices, their profits are gradually eroded until they're left with no choice but to exit the market. As more people exit the market, the variety of products supplied will also diminish. This not only reduces the diversity of product supply but also severely undermines the entire socio-economic system.
On April 21 this year, Temu entered the UK market and received a torrent of consumer complaints in a short span of time. From the poor quality of goods to subpar service and delivery delays, Temu received a dismal rating of just 2.35 stars on the UK's Better Business Bureau. This not only reflected the widespread dissatisfaction with Temu but also served as compelling evidence of their inability to deliver on promises.
The same tragedy played out in other countries. Chinese communities in Canada and Australia held equally negative views of Temu. Posts on Xiaohongshu (the Chinese social media platform) complaining about the company mostly revolved around Temu's focus on low-cost promotions while ignoring product quality when entering new markets, completely unveiling Temu's facade.

Problem is you pay more for a good quality item and it ends up being just as crappy as the cheap stuff.

People think that the "quality" and "authentic" overpriced items are far better than cheap, counterfeit items sold from China (the only plus side is that you aren't supporting child labor or forced labor, if you truly know the background/origin of the company) - they're both the same. You think that just because companies sell their products at high prices means it's authentic? They could also produce their expensive products in factories from China and low income areas (where employees are poor, underpaid, or forced to work unhealthy amounts of labor) and slap a label on their products to cover up their evil deeds. Or once a company can't sell their brand products for their specified profit, they sell it to the next vendor and they sell it for dirt cheap. Even the most expensive items from big brands names are made in China, or they ask the counterfeit to have it produced so they can sell it for higher profit - making it look "authentic". In turn, all of the items in our possession will rot and expire years later, so why over spend hundreds of dollars on items that won't last more than 3 months - but claim to last several years?

I will have to argue against you. i just try Temu and their quality is very bad. The items were pretty light, feels less robust and it just simply look very cheap. I had to return all the Temu items. Definitely. I work in my business with a number of Chinese companies - excellent manufacturers and respected colleagues now in our businesses success. We ensure that ALL our products go through full testing to meet all EU, UK and ISO standards. When we have a problem - and it is rare - it is usually with something poisonous in a plastic or vinyl aspect of the product. While the danger is low, if a child ate some (kids being kids lol) then the results could be tragic. When this happens - which is prior to mass production - the materials are replaced and re-tested and only when they pass, do we go ahead and manufacture. Working with China has taken me and my team 30 years to develop relationships based on trust and co-operation so that the goods we bring into the UK and Europe are of the highest standards possible. Lately, our customers have started to put pressure on us to lower prices and, while we can move sometimes 5-10% max for a large enough order, we will not go down the road of pursuing - as someone says above "cheap chasing out the good" when it comes to our business. I know there is a massive price war going on in China at the moment as we were contacted by an old manufacturer - about 10 times the size of the companies we use - and they sent us a quote for the same goods that was less than 50% the price we are paying our current companies. Pure profit and capitalism says we should screw over the people we've worked with for 30 years and go for the cheaper price because - more profit. I'm sorry, that's not how I or my business partners choose to do business. We are capitalists in so far as we seek to make a profit, BUT we are not going to be part of a "race to the bottom" where standards across the board collapse. China is a complex country that has been through a lot of turbulence in its time, but it is also one of the original cradles of civilisation as Marco Polo discovered - back when we in the West were being conquered by Rome, they had mathematics, science and philosophy that is still highly regarded to this day. Furthermore, they are now - without question - the 'factory of the world' and we need them and they need us for all our economies to thrive. Companies like Temu and Wish are aberrations (and TikTok ugh) that do not care about the customers, the workers or anything beyond profit. I would never buy from them. There are no safety standards or care for copyright. Sadly, the pursuit purely for profit and nothing else. is a lesson they learned from the West. As Gordon Gecko said in the movie Wall Street - "Greed is Good". TL:DR - Temu suck 😎

I know I could get our goods cheaper but I have not visited those factories and met the workers. I have not seen their QA processes in person. With the companies we work with, I have been and seen it all. We also use independent testing labs in Hong Kong to ensure safety. The race to the bottom is a very very dangerous game.

Needless to say, they were trying to over charge me 1000% at the bridal shop. I checked the website myself. I purchased directly from the site. I only paid $150 for the wedding dress that was 100% customized and made perfectly and arrived in about 30 days. I have to say, if these companies and businesses weren’t so greedy and dishonest, we wouldn’t have to shop at these sites. I’ll continue to shop where I get great deals and save money. This economy doesn’t allow most people the ability to shop locally. These news stories are created only because the big greedy companies are mad and want to scare people into spending more money.

If you are going to present a case, then I suggest you present all of it. What hasn't been addressed is: 1. The outrageous salaries and perks of the CEO's and owners are making. 2. In order to pay for the salaries and perks, the companies have to mass produce at a lower cost to the consumer. Why? Because the consumer isn't making a salary like the CEO's. For example, if I have 4 kids to feed, cloth, put a roof over their heads I am definitely not going to spend $100 on Adidas shoes per kid. That's $400. That money can go to food (which isn't cheap), pay a bill, go towards rent or mortgage. 3. That creates a market for lower to middle income families. 4. And while we're at it, the salaries that the average person is making doesn't go very far especially since the price of everything else is sky rocketing. 5. Also, where do you think these companies are getting the labor and product made? From China. It's called "outsourcing". Where do you think Amazon, Walmart, Target et. all get their products made? China or India. For example. I bought a cat hair brush from Temu for -say - a $1. That same cat brush is $2 at the Dollar General. It's $5.99 at Walmart. It's $7.99 at Target. Same brush. All made in China.

Manufacturers outsourced to China to get cheaper prices, consumers saw the quality decline but were still paying high prices (the CEO stole it all) and now that people can't buy good quality, they might as well skip the middlemen and pay less. Box wrenches stripped out under hand pressure, no cheaters, flat box wrenches that bent sideways under hand pressure no cheaters, hammers with heads flying off the first time they were used. Come alongs with cheap wire that the handles bent. Just absolute dangerous junk!

She buys cheap less than $20 items. Temu keeps screwing up the shipment. A couple times they shipped over $300 of goods to us but their records showed we haven't received it (lost in transit) and they reimbursed the whole $300 to us. LOL! This happened twice. haha. Both times we already received the goods. Temu's shipment also constantly have trouble getting through custom. We have been compensated several times, each time $5 (per item) even if we decided to cancel the order because we didn't want to wait for it to go through custom. Everytime it got stuck in custom, It takes over a month before they are cleared.

In a normal society it is illegal to sell something under its cost because that creates an unfair competition and seen as predatory.
@tekelupharsin4426
@tekelupharsin4426 11 месяцев назад
It depends on the circumstances. Oftentimes things are sold below cost during startup, liquidation, failed products, etc. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 for example are both being sold below cost because Microsoft and Sony expect to make up the losses in subscriptions, game sales, and peripherals. When it's done in a predatory way to achieve market dominance or run a competitor out of business, that's when the FTC will usually need to step in.
